Jets lack a solid receiving backfield with explosive speed. If Johnson can help in that area to avoid those quick 3 and outs, then perhaps we can get him. I wasn't overly impressed with him last year but the guy could re-emerge under a new offensive system.
Hasn't the Titans O line been pretty much crap the last 2-3 years with injuries taking their toll. Couldn't that have a big effect on Johnson's game?
So what? Practically every starter who plays most of the season hits 1,000 yards these days. He rushed for 3.9 yards per carry. Bilal Powell beat that with 4.0. He turns 29 this season and 29 is old for a RB. People need to stop obsessing over players who are past their prime.
I like CJ, but I'm not sure I see the 'fit.' If we sign him, does Goodson become expendable? Powell? I personally think Ivory is a good lead back when healthy, Powell on 3rd downs, and Goodson out of the backfield in the scant playing time he got last year. Is it worth dropping $5+ mil on a RB with all our other needs?
i doubt we sign him. we have interest in everyone. the media does not seem to understand that. Idzik does his due diligence.
Goodson has the legal issues, and the ACL tear. If we signed CJ, it's a foregone conclusion that Goodson would be released.
I keep seeing people say that we're set with Goodson. 167 carries 783 yards 3 TDs That is Mike Goodson's career stats over the past 5 seasons, including the 7 total carries he had for the Jets last year. You bet your ass that if CJ2k joins this team the Jets will send this guy packing, he has not shown much on the field and let's not get into the off the field stuff
I'd much rather have Chris than MJD. I don't think he'd have a problem splitting time with Ivory, etc. He knows that the shelf life for starting Rbs isn't long and he can use all the help he can get. He would be worth paying more for but I think Idzik could bring him in for reasonable money. Maybe in the Mike Vick vicinity.
I'd still like to see what a healthy Goodson could do. I'm not sure of his legal ramifications for this season but I'd much rather stick with him over Johnson.
"Had Goodson accepted the deal, he would have faced a one-year prison sentence. If convicted of the second-degree charge, Goodson faces a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years in jail." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/16/mike-goodson-rejects-plea-deal-on-weapons-charges/ He is not coming back this year or probably ever.
Well then I can understand why we're looking at RB's on the FA market. Now I wish we would have made a push for Sproles
He's not coming here to split or "platoon" with the scrubs the jets have now as some have said. If he comes here it's to be the starting RB because he's way better than any Running backs presently on the roster. The "split" of carries should and probably will look like: Johnson 70% Ivory 25% Powell 5% or less. He's there in case of injury and special teams Goodson - out on the street
Don't understand the fascination with these "over the hill" running backs on the FA market. Would rather grab a young guy in the draft then waste time with one of these grandpas.
The thing is that with Johnson you'd be getting a player with A chart talent. Worth paying more to. I don't think he's over the hill yet. Idzik will not grossly overpay for him but he's worth paying.
Like when we signed a 29 year old Thomas Jones who went on to have 2700+ yards on the ground with 29 total TDs in the next two years?
His production has been rapidly decline since his 09 2000 yard season... He hasn't gotten over 1364 yards since.. I would take my chances on Powell and Ivory and save that 3-5million and use it elsewhere..
That would never happen under Marty... If it was still a "ground and pound" team, then sure I am all for it... This team is going to pass 70% of the time.. He would be a nice screen threat tho.
You might think the holdup with his release is that there is a trade in the works and somebody is trying to negotiate a new deal first.
