his rookie year he was rotating the 5 tech with mike devito and playing the 3 tech on passing downs in nickel packs... during the last 3-4 games of that year i believe they had him standing up/ rushing from the edge wich led to 3 sacks in those weeks..

his 2nd year he played almost every one of his snaps on the edges rushing.. when mo or richardson came out the game coples would take there spot and play the 5 tech.. alot of people forget he had a couple of sacks taken away from him because of flags, and i know he had a few against running qbs that were counted as tackles for loss... again i know im talking him up... i dont think hes a super star but jet fans should be happy with his play and thats hes a solid football player.

i dont like the talk of his lazyness becuase thats what scounting reports come up when you google him... he does ball hard

One more thing I want to add is that even though Coples is listed as an OLB he will almost never drop back into coverage for us unless its a designed zone trap or blitz. He will get a ton of opportunities to rush the passer all over the line the same way we used Sheldon and Wilkerson. That's the beauty of a Rex Ryan defense, when It's 3rd and long you never know where anyone on our D Line will be lining up. Shit I've seen Wilkerson and Sheldon even drop back on coverage a few times last year on some zone blitzes, fun to watch.

Well I have a "couple"of opinions regarding Coples,I think he his effort on every play is questionable.I never liked him as a first round pick but I think Rex is the only factor in Coples becoming a monster.Id say next year is make or break for Coples,if he can improve his speed he would be a nightmare

According to profootballfocus.com he did. He was also 2nd in the league for QB hits for a 3-4 OLB.

Say what you want but Coples has been Average. Not as bad as a Kyle Wilson rd 1 choice, but not as good as Mo Wilk. Yr 3 is a big year for him. Forget the stats, the eye says a lot, and I just don't see Coples casuing the disruption I thought he could. 457 Year Old Calvin Pace outplayed him last year, granted Pace is a freak, but at his age is shocking. Coples needs to show a lot this year IMO, not a bust yet, but not what you would hope from rd1, just a servicable player at this point in time.

Pre draft where some dopey ESPN analysts questioned his work ethic so it suddenly becomes fact, despite Rex Ryan saying thay Coples does anything that is asked of him.

Pretty sure he led the team in pressures last year despite missing time. People are stupid.

I love Couples and felt like the kid was really coming on from the middle of last season.
It seemed the guy was always in the opposing teams backfield

I think Coples is straight BEAST. I expect him to keep growing into his potential. Especially lined up behind Mo he should get alot of space to run around this season since Mo will be double and sometimes even triple teamed. Cant wait to have Barnes back too, during the pre-season with the 1st team these two were causing havoc but i think by the time Coples came back from his ankle injury Barnes went down with a ACL. I expect them both to ball out this year.

I just don't see it. I think he would be a really good 4-3 defensive end but I just don't see him excelling to his full potential as a 3-4 OLB.

I don't know what games the op was watching this year, but for the most part, considering he was coming off of a bad foot injury, Coples
played very commendable football. He only got better as the season went on - and I confidently feel he'll have a breakout season.

This is an a- typical panic Jets fan post that implies 'bust' without mentioning it -

If I'm not mistaken, he led our team in hurries this year, didn't he?

QB pressures, that is correct. Seems those that live by the stat sheet are the ones hating on COPLES.

i have many issues with your statements..
i dont understand what your saying..your not watching coples play i guess.
i don't know how you can say calvin pace outplayed him
    calvin pace is a freak?
coples has already shown he isn't a bust, he's a solid starter..not every 1st rd pick has to turn into a pro bowl player

No way did calvin pace out play Coples. Coples made his way to the QB on his own ALOT as Pace had pretty much ALL coverage sacks. Not taking anything away from Calvin either but he wouldnt have been as good as he was numbers wise if it werent for sheldon

Coples plays that Demarcus Ware type 3-4 OLB where he rushes on most plays. He's basically a defensive end. I have high hopes for coples this season if he can stay healthy. I believe he can be a 10+ sack artist while also being a solid run stuffer. This front 7 is going to be scary with Richardson gaining more experience and will take a huge leap from last year (scary), Wilkerson reaching his full potential. Coples is the key because he will see a lot of one on one matchups. I'm really excited for this team I just hope Idziks plan of having a hall of fame draft pays of. Just wish he would at least give D Jax a call.

OMG thinking about the potential of our front 7 is crazzzy ! Imagine when Sheldon realizes he got his rushing D mastered and starts focusing on pass rush along with Snacks. Once Coples becomes a consistent sack artist we'll be witnessing something special. Thats assuming idzik pays wilk lol . Nothing surprises me anymore

Our front 7 won't matter if we have shit play out of our secondary ,we had 22 ranked pass defense last year
