Berry is gone, I am not sure about some of those others. Do people realize how important depth is?

also, keep in mind we have a big time DL that should be better next year. That means QBs have less time to pass and will make mediocre corners more effective.

I can't wait to see them all battle it out in TC, bunch of young talented corners time to see who's hungry enough to capitalize on the opportunity. We might have even more corners after the draft.

No I understand it. It's ironic that people who think overspending and jumping at every name that's available are making fun of people who think building through the draft and spending wisely is the way to go. One of those ways has a proven track record, the other doesn't.

You don't sign mid to late career vets to 5 year deals when you have 7 guys you drafted last year plus 12 more you're drafting this year plus 7 the year after. That's 26 guys in a 3 year period that could be really good for you. Some of them will be. However every single one of them that is cock-blocked by a 28 year old guy making 3 million a year more than his actual value is going to be a wasted effort.

The teams that can maybe take advantage of that 28 year old vet are the teams that are just a piece or two of the puzzle away from competing for a title.

The Jets aren't in that position.

If you don't recognize the difference between being a .500 team over time and making the playoffs close to half the time and being the Browns and the Raiders, well I can't explain that to you or to the "lots and lots" of people who would apparently equate the two.

The Browns and the Raiders are the dregs of football. They've both been mostly bad for more than a decade now and neither team has been able to put together a coherent plan to get better over that time. Neither team has such a plan in place now. That record and state of affairs points straight to the owner's suite.

That's definitely not irony unless you are from the Alanis Morissette school of irony...but we'll just leave it at that.

Ok, I'll break it down in simpler terms since you can't catch my drift.

Overspending because you have the money and there are players available is stupid. It's pure irony that people supporting a stupid plan are calling other people stupid. It's like good advice, that you just didn't take.

    Does that work?

Pretty much this. The guy fools around behind the line too.

He's awesome in the open field and if he gets enough room, he's dangerous but that's pretty much it. Guy lately gets stiffled before he even can pick up a respectable amount of yards per carry. I know Titan fans who get frustrated watching the guy.

He's more about the numbers than winning or even money(He got his payday). He wants to put up 2000 yards every single year and it'll be no different as a Jet, especially if we persuade him with the whole "Ground and Pound" shitck.

Just saying: lots of people rip on the Jets no matter what they do. I would obviously choose our situation over either of them.

Mostly was just teasing about the cap space.

Patterson I believe was hurt a lot last year so I really don't care for this signing. Reminds me of Donald Strickland, always stricken with some sort of injury

If its a 1 year deal worth not too much, what's to hate?

bullshite. every team needs vets, not just ones 'competing for a title'. after all, every team is competing, and every team has vets.
there is no such thing as going solely for young unproven players. you need a mix.

and who said anything about 5 years? some big name guys might be signed for 5 years if they still young. most of them won't see all 5 yrs of course.
others are signed for less yrs, and even less guaranteed, meaning you can move on from them if needed (due to a young draftee stepping up, or decline of that FA). we haven't filled out our depth enough to this point, and can't just bank on draft picks starting day 1, especially late ones. that is an absurdly risky approach, which could easily derail a season.
to that end though, i don't believe Idzik is done with FA or trades just yet. It's obvious we need more depth and competition.

Patterson has more experience than any of those guys and has been a productive player in the league. He'd probably be offered an inexpensive 0ne-year deal and be given the opportunity to compete.

But is better than any of them? He got into 6 games last year and 9 the year before so he is either always hurt or he sucks, which?

    haha..

"In a radio interview last week, general manager John Idzik acknowledged the obvious, saying the New York Jets have a need at cornerback. " No kidding, that's what happens when you trade your best CB and then cut your second best.

you do realize how awful that 2nd best corner was last year, right? I wanted Cro back but will he be healthy? he was dreadful last year. if that is the Cro we are losing it's not a big deal no matter who starts, if he's healthy and 2012 Cro it's a big loss.

I'd like to think some of those guys have potential, but right now, with Rose, Dowling, Reeves, Lankster and even Milliner and Walls having little NFL experience I would feel much more comfortable with a proven veteran in the mix
