No they can't... D-Jax and Johnson are proven players EVERYBODY in draft are unproven. If you add these two to the Jets it makes them very dangerous.
Wasn't Goodson supposed to fill that role with the team? I have a feeling this interest in CJ might be a not so subtle message to Goodson to get his shit together PDQ if not the perverbial writing on the wall.
No doubt, we definitely need another back. I don't think we need to pay 2 or 3M / season to get someone to fulfill Goodson's role in-case things don't work out. He had 34 carries against the Pats, and several other times where he had more than 15+ carries. I don't think Ivory needs to run the ball 300 times but 200-250 with Powell getting around 150-200 should work out. The 3rd RB would get a decent amount of carries. Doesn't help we have a shit offensive line though.
We aren't paying D-Jax 9 to 10M so we can rule out D-Jax now. CJ hasn't been that good in several years now. He's pretty much been on a decline since his 2k season. These players can be scouted for and drafted via the draft and going forward will be much better to develop home-grown talent. That is how the Ravens won the SB, same with the Seahawks. The Jets are following this blueprint. We are trying to get younger, not fill up the cap with malcontent players that have caused issues with their previous franchise. There are better RECEIVERS in the draft I believe then D-Jax. Brandin Cooks or Marquise Lee at the fraction of the price can put up 50 or 60 catches and be productive.
I think he does have a case coming up in the near future. I'm still not sure who claimed the gun that was found but I think the weed issue is still in play as well.
They say he's guilty and so he was charged. If he is convicted I believe there is mandatory prison time.
For whatever reason he only averaged 11 caries a game over the full 16 game season and he played in all of them. Actually, I was looking at the wrong column..he did miss 1 game so that would make his average 12.
That's where the draft comes in. Take a look at the kid from Oregon. In college he scored a TD every 9 touches. He can score from anywhere on the field. I want him on the Jets for sure. Ivory started out with the hamstring injury, and he didn't look like the guy we traded a 4th round pick for until his breakout game against the Saints. We didn't give him any carries against the AFC North cept for Cleveland. Those 3 or 4 games really hurt his average.
1mil per year served sounds about right depending on what the sentence is for the possession. Either way, I have a feeling Goodson may not see the field again in a Jets uni. The interest in CJ makes sense in that view.
i would have happily given Sproles 4M. He would have been a better help to the Jets imo, but I'd be very happy with Johnson around 4M also. would be our biggest playmaker, make for a dangerous set of backs, and add a pass threat dimension out of the backfield which we are lacking. Johnson would play more than just 3rd downs as well..
$10m/yr is fairly close to $12m. Only a transcendent RB like Peterson would break the mold and get big money now. The main reason is that RBs are fairly easy to replace in the draft, and even the good ones tend not to be good for more than 2 - 4 years. Good CBs are harder to find and last longer in the league, and take longer to develop, therefore they cost a lot more.
In the NFL world, if you're the very best at your position by a wide margin, then a 20% premium IS fairly close. Get it?
