for crying out loud. the point is that Ohio State is ducking Dayton so they don't have to face a competitive opponent out of conference. when forced to play them they lost. now you can claim that the fact that they lost justifies that Ohio State is smart to avoid playing them, but it is justice they lost when ducking them for regular season play. don't be pussies and duck your in state competitors.
You'll drop it? Funny but in your very next post: (vvv) If you must know, UD and UNC have played as recently as the 2010 N.I.T. finals at the Garden. Dayton beat North Carolina 79-68. Hack, what's with the ad nauseum Dayton-bashing troll act of yours? And as far as your sarcasm goes, nobody in turn has sarcastically "congratulated" 'Nova for getting to the Final 32 so with all due respect, please put a sock in it already, you're belaboring the point.
Nobody seems to want to answer a very simple question I have posted: How Many "in state competitors" should each major program be obligated to schedule every season?
it has nothing to do with being obligated to play them. nobody has answered it because it is a ridiculous question that has zero to do with the OP's position.
Zero, they are not "obligated" to schedule any. They are free to duck as many rivals as they like, and indeed, they have done so for many years. Hackett, I know you struggle with reading comprehension, but please show me where I ever said Ohio State should be forced to play Dayton every year, or that the NCAA should punish them for ducking Dayton. You also keep ignoring what I posted regarding UCLA and St. John's. You also brought up UCLA to somehow show that Ohio State is justified in never scheduling local rivals. http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400506588 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400498038 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502943 OK, so you brought up St. John's. http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400498717 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400504486 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502511 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400504509 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502737 And the St. John's and UCLA examples were just from this season.
I have argued some pretty dumb points to death on this board in the past and I can't believe this one is still going on
Yet for all those examples that you bring up for UCLA and St. Johns (And I credit you for fine examples), there are still literally dozens of schools who would complain that they too were "ducked" because they were not on their schedule. Take Villanova: I can not tell you how many times I have heard whines and complaints from DREXEL of all places that Villanova is ducking them (This despite the fact that Villanova plays St. Joe's, Penn, Temple, and La Salle EVERY YEAR). Really? The fact that Villanova would rather schedule an out-of-conference game against a National Powerhouse instead of La Salle means that they are ducking them? All I am saying is that there is a real danger in throwing around the word "ducking". It can become the battle cry of every mid-major who has accomplished nothing but winning their conference, yet somehow feel deserving of playing Louisville, Florida, and Kansas for that "acheivement". It could become the battle cry for a Drexel, who feels cheated because Villanova regularly plays every other local rival as well. And yes, I'm sorry, it became to battle cry for Dayton, who despite the immaturity and unprofessionalism of their athletic department in signaling out Ohio State, actually went on the achieve greater things in the tournament besides beating the Buckeyes. Their conduct makes their performance much less enjoyable to me. I want the parameters for "ducking" clearly defined so that it isn't used as an excuse for every attention-starved mid-major team.
no, I don't think the Ohio State players, at maybe the biggest moment of their basketball lives, were thinking about whether they were being accused of ducking Dayton by the interwebz.
