According to NFL.com the Jets aren't in or out, they just need to meet to discuss it..of course with Idzik any meeting might not happen until next year.

The New York Post confirmed theJets are still interested, but cautioned that conversations still have to happen at the highest levels of the organization before a plan is solidified. John Idzik was not among the general managers to contact Jackson's camp on Friday, per Mehta.

From the article it doesn't imply idzik is interested and he's the only one that matters.

Plus it's Mehta, so the "people" in the organization could be a janitor at MetLife.

He'll probably end up on the redskins, which I'm starting to be okay with. Looks like he really has some big issues. He's the type of player you don't want to play but don't really want on your team either.

Mehta and other beat writers want Jackson signed for obvious reasons - it gives them something to write about when Jackson issues emerge - off the field nightclub issues, gang rumors, hold out threats, unhappiness with lack of targets, arguments with coaches/players over role etc. Think about it. He is Mehta's dream offseason acquisition.

Here's some food for thought for those who couldn't wait for Holmes to shown the door and are now begging for Jackson:

Holmes three years before signing with the Jets

    52-924-8
    55-821-1
    79-1248-5

    Jackson's last three years

    58-961-4
    45-700-2
    84-1332-9

And both the Steelers and Eagles each wanted to rid themselves of the player after a career year for a bag of footballs.

    Fool me once..........

Again - Holmes was very good for this offense when we got him prior to his injury. He was a difference maker and a reason we won games. People always seem to ignore that when trying to make this point. He was also a douchebag but he produced so it was OK.

honestly, I'm perfectly fine with him signing elsewhere, but if the jets don't even bring him in for a visit, I am gonna get a little frustrated.

With a player of Jackson's caliber, you should take every step to find out if he is a fit for your team. Also, just basing your decision off of things written about the player without meeting with the player himself wouldn't be right, especially since we've needed a guy like him for the longest time.

just bring him in for a meeting, hear things from his perspective, and who knows? all I'm saying is that they shouldn't just write him off before talking to the guy face to face.

Not the point. The point is, like the eagles and Jackson, the Steelers were willing to get rid of Holmes for nothing just to be rid of him regardless of his talent. Talent and whether he was good for the offense is irrelevant.

What is relevant is why the Steelers got rid of Holmes -- because he was temperamental, didn't practice hard and his talent not worth putting up with him. Despite his talent the Jets found that out as well in 2011 as he was one of the primary causes of the locker room turmoil that hurt the locker room and team chemistry.

So, yes, Holmes had talent but that isn't the only thing teams look at when evaluating whether to sign him. Jackson certainly appears in the same boat, so there is no denying the similarities and why Jets fans should be wary considering how Holmes hurt this team despite his talent.

He made cheap signings of solid vets that filled holes and drafted BPA. Idk what else you could ask for. We don't need to spend big every off-season.

I get it. Holmes is one of my least favorite Jets of all time but I recognize that he was a difference maker and the team needs difference makers on offense. These types of guys are front runners. They're fine so long as the team is winning but when things go sour so do they.

That's why I liked the option of trading for his current contract. It would have been easy to cut bait if he became more trouble than he was worth. I wouldn't want to get into a contract that commits the team to this guy for much longer than 2 years, which I'm guessing will keep us out of the running for his services. Maybe that's for the best.

I rarely find myself on the fence with potential pickups but I am with this one. I'd be thrilled if he were a Jet but as you say, wary at the same time. There's no denying he could help the offense. I definitely don't want him to land in the AFCE.

Ugh, I'm completely fine with not having Jackson but I also don't want him in the division. Hopefully the Redskins offer him a huge deal.

Apparently the Redskins don't want him leaving without a deal. Makes their interest look a lot more serious than just him visiting.

Just curious, you bring him in for visit to what? Hear his side of the story? Make an offer? Show him the amenities? I would imagine the Jets have done the background research and talked to MM and their wide receiver coaches if they are seriously considering him....Whether the Jets showed any interests the last couple of days is sort of meaningless to me because they have been interested or apparently contacting the Eagles the last week or so....Regardless what directions the Jets approach, I trust them in making the right decision or path forward....

I guess people are arguing this for the same of arguing but it looks pretty clear that the Jets aren't trying to pursue him at all and he will sign elsewhere. I was in the middle about this guy but the more I think about the idea of signing him the more it looks like continuing a stupid pattern of obtaining over rated players who don't deserve the money they are asking for four a number of reasons

This is just a brilliant way to throw light on this situation.

When teams that are solid organizations can't wait to show a guy the door at any cost the last thing you want to do is pick the player up and assume the problems the last team is ditching.

    It's a team game.

I agree his previous contract was a perfect opportunity to kick the tires for a year risk free. The question is if the jets kept him would they have renegotiated a new longer deal that gave him guaranteed money but reduced the yearly cap hit from the $11-12 million that it would have been for 2015 and 16? The likely answer is yes.

And when given that new contract would Jackson return to that type of behavior that got him booted from his previous team the same way Holmes did after getting a new contract from the Jets?

Playing for a contract seems to have the ability to change a players behavior for the better the same way getting a contract can change it back to his old ways. That's the risk of Jackson if the reports are true. And what is funny is that Jets fans lived through this 3 years ago and want to pretend those similarities don't exist between Holmes and Jackson just so they can have the immediate emotional satisfaction of acquiring a talented player. Oh, they are such silly ostriches.

I agree but ignoring the production Holmes gave us as if all he ever did was bad is equally as silly IMO.

    - The police checked his bank accounts and jewelers after his house got robbed.....numbers didn't add up with what he claimed, not even close. Stupid.
    - Eagles hired a private investigator to follow him
    - P.I found him doing all sort of shady shit on the low, in L.A *and* Philly. High every day, drug deals on the side, and quote, "fuckin his mans girl".
    - He owes people in Philly money. Real North Philly people with goons. Desean don't even feel safe on Philly streets no more.
    - Case in point: One of his friends GOT KIDNAPPED in Philly. tied him up n beat the shit outta him for days.....Djax paid the ransom and dude tried to cover it up but the hospital started asking questions...damn lol smh
