Is it possible there was some new development that led to his release? I find it hard to believe these teams pushing for him wouldn't give up a late rounder if the eagles made that the asking price
Nobody offered anything for Jackson. If they had the Eagles would have traded him. Most of the news reports about the Jackson situation were essentially lies or guesses. When you have nothing to sell but you have to sell anyway you make stuff up. Anybody who is thinking that the media is an accurate source at this point is kind of silly, no?
Bingo. Why would you release a guy for nothing if someone had offered you something? That would be so stupid.
Well this is just frustrating. Why didn't the eagles lower the asking price then? It makes me really curious what his contract will be now.
Easy, what about the GM's, coaches and scouts that felt that Tom Brady was worth a 6th rd pick or Joe Montana was worth a 3rd pick or Kurt Warner wasn't worth a pick at all. That can be said about ANYONE, or how about those same people who felt that Ryan Leaf or Andre Ware or Joey Harrington or David Carr or Vince Young were worth 1st rd picks. The draft IS a CRAP SHOOT, let them both compete FAIRLY AND Matt Simms WILL win out, PERIOD.
I'm sure multiple teams offered under the circumstances that Jackson would restructure his deal. Jackson would be stupid to do so when he knows he can become a free agent. It takes all 3 parties to make a deal.
Also I saw this post from you before: Isn't it possible they got offers but wanted more and then this happened?
Who knows what the Eagles did or didn't do? The Jets are an easy target right now for media exploitation because there are no consequences associated with exploiting the Jets for your own ends in the professional media arena. Everybody lies at some point when the price point moves them to do so. Some organizations only lie via the mechanism of reporting other people's lies, without pointing out that the sources they are quoting are very skeezy, but everybody lies to some extent. Some news organizations are just a veritable font of nonstop lies about the Jets because they have encouraged/tolerated/supported their writers to write whatever they think will sell and without requiring rigorous fact-checking by the organization in question. I'm not talking about the NY Times here but it pays to remember that they had an award-winning reporter who essentially lied for a living for a long period before he was found out. When the journalistic establishment can get caught with their pants down like that what are the odds that the worst of the tabloids aren't just pissing all over the place uncontrollably in order to make a buck?
The Eagles were clearly in cut and run mode with Jackson. They probably were just hoping to move him out of the NFC East. They'd likely have grabbed any credible offer when it was made and run with it. The fact that they released Jackson under pressure suggests they got no credible offers. That a slim trade market just dried up on them.
Right and that's why I'm wondering if it's true we offered a 4th and a 5th, which they may not have seen as credible offer at the time. I'm just trying to get a handle on what rumors are potentially true and which are made up.
You know the 5th round pick the Jets gave up for Santonio Holmes? You ever wonder why the price was that "cheap"? If the Eagles had Jackson on the market and the Jets offered anything it would have been the starting point for a bidding process. Eagles (to the world): DJax is on the market. World (silent). Jets (to Eagles, not the world): We'll give you a 4th and a 5th round pick. World (silent). End of bidding process. Eagles (to Jets): Sold to the man in the tie for a 4th and a 5th round pick, one slightly tarnished star receiver. That's how it works. Now if the Eagles didn't have DeSean Jackson on the market then you're right, they might just have decided the Jets offer was laughable and moved on.
It is true the Baron was part of the gang growing up as some athletes have been involved with in their youth especially living in the impoverished communities. I don't think Baron is being slander at all for being in the gang. I don't think he was a character where he missed practices or team meetings. What makes a Baron stand out by his peers is his involvement in making a difference in the gang community. He has produced a documentary about the gang life and the facts about growing up impoverished communities. A quite impressive documentary if no one has seen it, "Crimps and Blood: Made in America". He is not turning backing on his gang or the gang community as he being active in trying to assist youths that there are other options to escape from the gang life. DeSean ties to the gang is murky. But this may be a good time and opportunity for DeSean to ahnge teams, and address the perception of him off the field. I think it is chronicled that over the years as being late for practices and missing team meetings that he is going to have to earn the trust and change when he goes to another team. I want his talent and whether he fits in the clubhouse is another thing...
I just find it interesting that the Eagles would release him than accept a lowball offer. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a while before Jackson signs with anybody. Between all the rumours teams have to investigate, I'm sure Jackson wants to be paid like a top tier WR. Even the Raider could be hesitant after the Roger Saffold debacle.
It's possible that for some unknown reason the Jets just don't want their image tied to the Crips and Bloods, even in a secondary context, and therefore have decided that doing anything that might somehow tie them to those organizations (hint: living in the media reality they now face) is just bad business.
Gang ties are not he did have a carrer year last season, and has never gotten in any off the field trouble like arrests or anything like that, the Eagles need to show evidence before accusing one of there players publicy of being involved with gangs
How does anyone even know if he is really tied to gangs?that could mean he has a childhood friend that he still talks to who's in a gang or something like that. That doesn't mean he is out doing drive bys
