seems like a last ditch effort to force a team into action in fear of having to bid on him on the open market. doesn't seem to ever work though, but its my theory fwiw

Oh I'm sorry, I'm new to this board so I wasn't around when it was being "discussed to no end on here." But thanks for the nice welcome to this board lol.
smh. ..... but I forgive you.
I just have to respond to your quote. You posted:

    "Read this off Seattle's website:
"John Idzik begins his sixth season with the Seahawks after joining the club on February 16, 2007. With Seattle, Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations. In addition, he serves as the club’s primary liaison to the NFL Office and represents the club at League meetings.""

Looking at that carefully, Idzik dealt primarily with the financial aspects of the business, as opposed to decisions on who to sign, draft, trade for, etc. ....it says he dealt with the financials while "also remaining active in player evaluations", likely meaning he sat at the table when the real decision makers worked. It's a cookie for his resume, allowing him to be considered for a possible future GM role, not an indication that he has real experience in this area...see the difference now?

and before seattle he was asst g.m in arizona with a hand in player evaluation and before that he was in tampa where he started as a scout. let me say that again, he was a scout, also a coach and a grad asst coach. the guy has climbed the ranks from the football side of the oeration. he is not a paper pusher who ended up as a g.m.
google his resume and be done with this conversation
    thank you

I just noticed on another thread you liked a post that said "Idzik is such an idiot he tried to sign Revis and ended up with Reeves. That's what happens when you hire an accountant for your GM that knows nothing about football."... So I'm confused, which is it?

As for what you said here, why would a guy supposedly qualified for a personnel position take a job as a cap manager/financial officer? Wouldn't that be considered a step back in his career if he wanted to be a GM some day? Seattle apparently thought he was best dealing with the financial side of things.

Let me just add that, if Idzik's moves pan out and we win a super bowl, I will eat my words and admit I was wrong, happily! :)
....now, as others have said, time to move on from the Idzik debate and get back to the topic of this thread, DJax......anything new there?

you don't think having a financial background and cap experience will help with being a GM or is experience an NFL team would look for in a GM candidate? I'm curious how you attempt to clai that is a step back for someone looking to acquire the diverse experience that would make him an ideal GM candidate.

Desean Jackson is a no brainer signing the Jets NEED to make regardless what's being said about his off the field issues....So many people on here act like they know Idzik personally and say he's "patient" he doesn't like to give contracts to guys that aren't "high in character". Facts are is that when Idzik was with Seattle his roll was unknown. Some say he was a Cap guy, some say he was bred in a football family and can evaluate talent to a degree. Other than GM, it's safe to say Idzik had some influence and some capacity to give his opinion on decisions. Now look at the Seattle roster, and tell me they have all "high character" guys either guys they drafted or signed in free agency. A few for example are Brandon Browner (steroid use, caught a couple times, facing suspension), Bruce Irvin (accused of assault off the field), Marshawn Lynch (accused of assault when he was in Buffalo)....my point is the worst thing that Desean Jackson has done is be known to have friends affliated in gangs....he was a clean record off the field to this point and since he's been in the league has not been suspended or gotten into trouble off the field. His on the field antics at times are a little ridiculous with celebrations and what not but at the rate he produces and what he brings to the table, I'd rather have him get flagged for scoring TD's for us as opposed to Santonio Holmes celebrating after a first down....this is a no brainer signing to make...we have the money, pay him on a short term (2 year deal) and focus on CB and Safety in the Draft!

I wonder how well fines and penalties work in keeping players motivated?

The NFL is a lot like the Government. The Eagles let DJ go because they did not want to pay him 10 Million after giving there other receiver a raise. Instead of just admitting why, they had him smeared via NJ.com and through other media outlets. You think its a coincidence the gang stuff came out the same day he was cut? Please, all that stuff has been an issue before he was drafted and they Eagles new it and still drafted him and then years later gave him a big ass contract. He is from the hood in LA so he new gang members, big deal. He's a pain in the ass, hell, how many WR's in the NFL are not? I hope the Jets sign him to a 2 year incentive laden contract. If the NFL gets a drone, watch out world.

The more I think about it...after say Hell NO earlier in the thread, I am getting on this page. Give the man a one year deal and see where that puts him and us. I can imagine if we went down the list of people I knew or was associated with in some capacity you might find red flags. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat. I, personally, wouldn't want to be judged on others and I'm sure neither would you. He HAS kept his nose clean...and a 1yr. deal is going to hurt no one.

Why do people pay attention to anything this guy says???? He makes things up.

Note the first sentence is sourced to Schefter. The second is from incarcerated mehta's "anonymous source"

Doesn't make any sense considering Woody Johnson was on record saying the Jets' had interest prior to the release. You would think since they don't have to cough up a draft pick they would be more interested.

    idk

Does this really surprise anyone. Top player in a position of need and we sit on our hands.
Guess MM would know best on this one, just a lot of disappointment so far this offseason.
If we have all these ties to him and still have no interest he must have some serious issues.

Nobody on this board knows Jackson better then the Eagles organization. They cut him and it had nothing to do with the contract. The guy had 1300 yards last season and it wasn't good enough for the Eagles? Now that he's been cut every GM interested in Jackson will be calling anyone they can in the Eagles organization to get the reasons why. I hope that in Idziks eyes the reasons aren't worth it

The criticisms of John Idzik's qualifications always seem to miss the fact that he's been a significant part of the front office in three franchises that got to a Super Bowl in close proximity to his employment. I don't understand the guys who are willing to pick apart his job titles with a tweezers to prove he doesn't belong and yet ignore the basic fact that teams that have employed him have been very successful over the years.

Of all the potential candidates to be Jets GM's Idzik actually was almost unique in terms of the exposure to a winning culture and the ability to build from nowhere (Tampa Bay '94, Arizona '03, Seattle '08) to get to the pinnacle of the NFL. If anybody knows how to do what the Jets are trying to do right now it's Idzik.

Sounds good. Exactly why I'm glad tannenbum's not here anymore. He would have him signed to 6 years $100 million by now.
