No, I haven't made a judgement of his character and already stated explicitly I don't give a shit. What I am not doing is trying to justify having my head in the sand and refusing to accept what has been reported just so I can justify wanting him on the Jets without looking like I have no social conscience.
BREAKING NEWS: DeSean Jackson linked to West Philly gang that beat up Will Smith resulting in his move to Bel-Air. More details coming.
I think the gang-affiliation is a smokescreen. It gives them a "legitimate" reason for getting nothing of a value for him. I don't dispute the other shit about missing meetings. It even goes back to my original argument: Chip Kelly is trying to take over the organization and Jackson impedes a full buy-in because he's one of the teams highest paid and certainly most well-known players... and the fact that there were still some issues with his contract despite him being top 5 paid WRs only signifies that Kelly probably thought Jackson was going to be a recurring "problem". Now, he's important to Kelly's system and obviously producing on the field but Kelly is both trying to produce on the field AND take FULL control over the team while his stock is high. This is a much more feesable explination. Kelly is new and he has to show that he is that dude running that team. It makes a statement and a shows a new regime is in and the bullshit wont be tolerated no matter how good you are, or how good you think you are. The fact the eagles are going to have to eat 6 million over this shows they are ready to move forward with Chip and the Reid era is truly over.
Come on guy. You have definitely tried to portray an even keel here but your posts have betrayed your idea of even. I don't think that it's a bad thing because we all have strong opinions here. Halfway through today I was ready to just not have anything to do with Jackson but the more I have thought about it the more I think that the gang stuff is an opportunistic issue for the press to get some hits and the Eagles to come out as the good guys. There was zero discussion about this prior to today. Why? If it was such a huge issue why wasn't this everywhere the moment the Eagles started to shop him? Or before? Even if it was from teams that were trying to lower his trade value? This whole situation stinks man.
I would love Jackson on the Jets and would hope he is a decent teammate that contributes to the team and doesn't detract from it, even if he does have gang ties which the evidence certainly supports. Do I think he was likely an immature teammate and a distraction? Sure. That doesn't mean he is incapable of being a good teammate. Perhaps he simply needs a new environment. But I don't see the purpose of attempting to dispute any of the reports, which appears to serve no purpose other than for those who want to dispute them to justify wanting him without admitting they don't care one but about the character of a player if that player can assist in providing them the emotional satisfaction of jets victories.
Or you could be smart enough to understand "no" was likely a type-o meant to be "not" and was so trivial to not even warrant an edit.
I'm not disputing the reports. I am questioning the timing of the reports. There are probably a lot of players with gang ties in the NFL. You would have been lynched in Indianapolis 8 years ago for saying something like that about Marvin Harrison but he had an unceremoniously exit from the NFL after it was discovered and after his body couldn't play anymore. Nobody guessed it. I'm not pardoning gang ties. And is Jackson has close ties to bangers then he probably needs to exit the league. I'm just saying that I have not seen evidence of foul play from him and simple association does not mean guilt. He shouldn't be blackballed for throwing a sign on TV or in a picture just as JayZ shouldn't be considered a New World Order crony just for making eyes and triangles during a concert.
