Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 1m And @mortreport is reporting that, pending a physical, former Jets QB Mark Sanchez is expected to sign with the Eagles. Chris Mortensen @mortreport 15m Sanchez "failed physical" termination w Jets was protocol. Won't affect next step - signing with Eagles. He's on good recovery from surgery I don't think I can edit the title, but Mortensen reported it first. EDIT: There are Sanchez threads in the Jets and NFL section, so I'm not sure if this is the correct spot for this. Sorry if this is wrong and/or duplicate
I'm wondering how that gay hairband is gonna play down in Philly. If Sanchez is smart, he loses that damn thing somewhere along I95 and gets a haircut while he's at it.
At first I was shocked but then I kept reading how Kelly loves his offense, playaction, etc so I would like to think Sanchez going there would be great for him. Even if he doesnt start, he'll have a year of extra learning from someone that actually understands offense and qbs, unlike what he had his entire time as a JETS starting QB.
1 year $2.25 million reported. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...oduced-philly-new-backup-qb-article-1.1738100 _
The 1 year contract is a bit curious to me. Why bother sitting the bench for one year? I guess he's hoping a more realistic starter position opens up next year.
Pretty much I guess. Sit for a year, get healthy and learn under a true QB guru, also gives him some street cred with other teams that he's been tutored for a year by Kelly. I was curious why he went there to begin with, he must be thinking down the line. Foles is a rising star, not the guy you want to sit behind for too long. Surprised he didn't go to Az. _
Also probably all he got offered. Considering major shoulder surgery, out a whole year and an awful 2012 I'm not surprised. _
Realistically the one year $2,2 million dollar contract with a promise to be able to compete for the 2nd spot is likely the best offer he could get. This is a guy trying to hang on and and continue his career in the NFL. Where else would he be able to compete for a back-up job. Likely nowhere. With drafting Barkley last year its unlikely that Philly will draft a non practice squad QB so Sanchez is likely safe for this year. If he can hold on and make the team he could redeem himself and possibly create a decent career for himself as a back-up QB. Sanchez has always been a player who looks better in shorts in practice than when he plays in pads so the back-up job is ideally suited for a player like him who lacks the toughness to play tackle football.
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer 1m Mark Sanchez's 1-year deal has a $750K signing bonus, and half his $1.5M base is fully guaranteed. Also has $1.75M in play-time incentives.
It wouldn't shock me if he gets traded. At some point last year we were all sitting their saying "imagine if Sanchez was healthy" because so many teams were so desperate for a QB. Eagles could turn Sanchez into a draft pick. Same applies to Mike Vick, if Geno is starting and playing the whole year.
