Adam Schefter Notice how Eagles re-signed Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper Before free agency, then traded for weapon Darren Sproles. Knew this was coming.
message from Cripsean: Statement from former Eagles WR DeSean Jackson: "First I would like to thank the Eagles organization, the Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia for my time in Philly. I would also like to thank coach Andy Reed for bringing me in. Secondly, I would like to address the misleading and unfounded reports that my release has anything to do with any affiliation that has been speculated surrounding the company I keep off of the field. I would like to make it very clear that I am... not and never have been part of any gang. I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values. I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made both on and off the field. I have worked tirelessly to give back to my community and have a positive impact on those in need. It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions. These reports are irresponsible and just not true . I look forward to working hard for my new team. God Bless."
Flashing the signs doesnt mean you are part of the gang either but I dont think it should be enough to convict someone of being part of the game. Its certainly not a positive, but I dont think it should make or break wether he can play for an NFL team. If it did, the Eagles would have cut him after he did it originally.
What it comes down to is we have to trust the FO to make the right call on his off the field issues. Something will come out, it has to, because the only thing I can think of is that they genuinely feel like they can win with anyone in Kelly's system, and that just sounds a little too far-fetched. They released him so does that mean they couldn't even fetch a seventh rounder in return? I imagine NY is where he'd want to go but there's got to be more to it.
Besides the fact that Desean has gang affiliations, I guess he's worth a shot (sarcasm) http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2014/03/eagles_desean_jackson_off-the-field_troubles.html PHILADELPHIA -- Over the past several weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly have begun to shop wide receiver DeSean Jackson. On its face, the decision to trade one of the NFL's most talented players would seem curious: At 27, Jackson is coming off one of the best seasons of his career -- 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. Plus, he's a playmaker who should thrive for seasons to come in head coach Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense. Yet the Eagles' apparent interest in jettisoning Jackson likely has little to do with his performance on the field or a big-money contract that could squeeze the team's salary cap. Rather, sources close to Jackson and within the Eagles' organization say, it's Jackson's off-field behavior that concerns the front office. A bad attitude, an inconsistent work ethic, missed meetings and a lack of chemistry with head coach Chip Kelly are the reasons, sources told NJ.com. And when the Eagles looked more deeply into why Jackson was missing meetings, they found that his friends were becoming a more powerful -- and negative -- influence in his life. Now the Eagles have even more serious concerns -- Jackson's continued association with reputed Los Angeles street gang members who have been connected to two homicides since 2010. CHAT AT 3:30 P.M.: Reporters take questions on DeSean Jackson Ever since New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder last summer, NFL franchises have been reevaluating how closely they needed to watch their players away from the field. And what Eagles executives see in Jackson, a six-year veteran, is apparently a potential blight on the brand and a bad influence in the locker room. As a source within the Eagles organization, who requested anonymity, put it: "They are concerned about having him around the younger players." THE FIRST SIGNS DeSean Jackson was nowhere near the scene of the crime when, on Dec. 29, 2010, 14-year-old Taburi Watson flashed a rival gang sign at two men as he rode his bicycle through South Los Angeles. The men, reportedly members of the Crips, responded to the teen's provocative gesture by shooting him multiple times, police said. Paramedics pronounced Watson dead at the scene. "DeSean Jackson was not part of the case," Jane Robison, a spokesman for the LA District Attorney's Office, told NJ.com. "He was not a charged defendant. He was not a witness." Jackson was, however, associated with Theron Shakir, one of the two men charged with the murder. Along with co-defendant Marques Binns, Shakir is a purported member of the Crips. In addition, Shakir, known as "T-Ron," is a rapper who recorded for Jaccpot Records, a label owned by Jackson. The two were close enough that they appear together frequently in photographs -- including pictures posted by Jackson to Instagram while Shakir sat in jail awaiting trial for the teen's execution.
I did some more googling on this, and from what I understand the Eagles knew about his association with a member of the Crips who was charged with murder, but acquitted. And they were informed that the LAPD wanted to investigate Jackson. The Eagles went ahead and signed his contract extension AFTER they knew of those issues. Well, I can't say Jackson is clean, but it does sound like the Eagles floated this story to help their fans accept cutting him. I dont know that, either. But it sounds fishy.
I don't think we will wait too long for his new team to be announced. He should sign somewhere in a day or two. I hope he signs with us with a reasonable contract that will protect Jets if this gang thing becomes an issue down the road.
Desean will sign with Jets, commit gang related crime, get arrested go to prison and he and Aaron Hernandez will battle it out in prison for gangland superiority, but at least maybe then Jackson can rep the jets and he can beat Hernandez because that's the closest the actual jets will get to beating the patriots lol....with that said...sign this beast!
Yeah. That's going to get lost in the immediate reaction because of the NJ.com story and that the Eagles are not going to comment on the release.
Ill just end by saying this. This has been going on for awhile and knew it will catch up to him. I personally dont believe hes a crip but word does go around.. Point is yet again is that you must be careful WHO YOU HANG OUT WITH and this social media stuff will bite many in the ass for years to come.
