I was watching a Jerry Rice story on NFL network that gave me some hope for Stephen Hill. Jerry Rice was pretty much garbage his first two years and looked like a bust for sure... I mean he couldnt catch a cold in a blizzard.. but had all the hype coming out of college. Suddenly he broke out year 3 and became the best receiver in NFL history. This is year 3 for Hill.... Time to go in Jerry Rice mode. Thing is Stephen Hill faster and taller... He should be dominating.
I agree, and most importantly, as it has been mentioned, his contract is a get out of free jail card. if he under performs, you cut him next year with no additional baggage. if he performs well you renegotiate his deal to be cap friendly and give him a few more years and guaranteed money. If he won't renegotiate you used his ability to help you succeed and make the team more attractive to free agents who can make up for his departure. Idzik obviously knows all this if we have thought of it, and knows that he is worth getting at the price that does not hinder his overall goal of building for the long term which comes through drafted players, so he won't give up a highly valuable pick for a potentially short term player. And he is correct. a 4th and 5th is a fair trade for him based on history of receivers their teams want to get rid of.
I guess if over 1500 yards is not being able to catch a cold then I can understand, that was his 2nd year. His first year he still put up over 900 yds. He also had just as many TD's those first 2 years as all the Jets WR's combined the last 2 years. I don't doubt there is still some hope for Hill since he shouldn't have much pressure on him and some receivers do take a few years to break out but if he doesn't show up this year he will probably be relegated to the #4/5 spot for the duration of his career.
Come on now. Desean may have a bit of an ego and definitely wants to get paid, but I feel like the extent of his attitude is greatly exaggerated and based on a lot of speculation.
Yeah when i looked up Rice's career stats i noticed his 2nd year wasnt even bad. I guess they said that on NFL network to make the story interesting or something. But regardless, maybe Hill will finally get his feet wet. I think him and Decker on the outsides would be sick if he can produce.
Hill is definitely interesting but I feel like he never gained Sanchez's or Geno's trust. He's open often, but his hands are suspect and his routes are questionable. Right now he's living off of pure physical talent. If he can learn the game at the NFL level he has the physical tools to be a good receiver.
I love how people are acting as if Jacksons already wearing a Jets uniform,I feel like if it was gonna happen it woulda happend already.I know Idziks strategy is to wait out the eagles until the draft so he can offer a 4th and 5th instead of a third ,that strategy could work but it can also blow up in your face
This trade will blow up in our face if we give up a 3rd round pick or higher. If we don't get him, then oh well - we'll draft a receiver in the first round instead Feels good to have options and not be backed up against a wall.
Hill is disgusting,I'm done crossing my fingers with this guy.If he hasn't done it by now he will likely never become what we drafted him to become. This is without a doubt his last year as a Jet unless he has a better year then the last two.The guy just vanished in games last year, his two stand out games are against Buffaloother then those two games he has been awful
Had good hands in college came into the league with promise and couldn't catch anymore once they got to the league. Of course hill is nothing like rice and never will be.. Just saying he still has a chance to pan out
Stop watching highlight reels on YouTube and pretending they are scouting film man. Hill was an invisible man in college. Jerry Rice was drafted pretty high from a tiny school because of his body of work in college
And when does a starting Cb get drafted? OL? I agree that if Jackson is not picked up, going wideout in the first round is a promising move. But taking him would ease pressure on the draft to fill holes in the roster. Significant holes.
I don't want to see us giving up on getting this guy, my dream scenario is a draft day trade where we swap first rounders from 18-22 and give philly are 5th pick and get this deal done. Gives us our #1 WR and we can draft BPA whether it's Dennard, Pryor or someone else.
Your dream scenario should be that we remain at #18 and the Eagles take the 4th & 5th rounders for Jackson.
What is wrong with keeping Hill around at a cheap price as a #4 WR, it's obvious he is never going to be Demariyus or Calvin (Georgia Tech) but he is a burner and big, good depth guy and young, keep him as a #4...
I don't think there's harm in it until there are too many better players at that position to justify the roster spot. Right now there aren't I guess since Clyde is still hanging around
