Yeah. The Jets were in such an interesting position in 2009 onwards because the team was there but they needed a QB. So they had a young QB paired with a win now GM. It created a really strange scenario and bottom fell out where the QB didn't hit the heights expected quickly enough, the team didn't get a SB to buy itself a grace period, and the team did a poor job drafting. It's the risk of trading up and big contracts. Granted, I do see why people are frustrated in Idzik but I don't think he has had any large blunders yet. I'm not ecstatic with this FA, but I'm not doom and gloom either. I'd call it slightly above average performance so far
I'd rather make mistakes and have 12 picks in a deep draft w/ the 2nd most cap room than make the mistake of overpaying players and being up against the cap. w/ each passing day I am more sold on the way he is doing things, it can be frustrating but I think it will pay off for many years to come.
That's the way I feel too. Obviously as a fan I want to win a Super Bowl every year, but I like the way Idzik mentioned it. He wants to win now, tomorrow, and the next day. I think that's what Idzik is building towards. A team that will consistently make the playoffs that has cap room and draft picks to stay ahead of the curve and be ready to replace declining players before they start to decline. This takes a lot of planning and to shift a team's culture to this idea, it's going to take some patience from him. Granted, it's awesome to have a plan and pretend to know I think I know what Idzik is doing. I could be completely wrong and he could mess up and not work out, but like you said, it's easier to overcome mistakes with draft picks and cap room than overcome mistakes with less draft picks and no room. So if Idzik does mess up, I still think he will leave us in a good shape.
can we get lucky and Geno turns into a top QB? we are one of the only franchise to never really have a top flight QB. Joe was for a year or 2 but, Vinny and Chad for a year each but that's it. when do we get lucky and get our great QB?
Who knows. I think the Jets are in a good spot, more so than recent years, to develop a young QB whether that be Geno or a pick this upcoming draft. I would love to have a QB other teams feared and had to game plan for.
I don't think Vick qualifies, he will never be the long term solution to our woes. Just from an age standpoint alone. He's not the "guy".
that would be nice. and they tweeted out last night Tyler Ennis was returning to SU for his soph season, today he declared for the draft
Yea I didn't mean to say he was a long term solution. I was just thinking of the here and now when I responded.
@AdamSchefter Patriots and DT Vince Wilfork restructured his contract. It's a new 3-year, $22.5M deal, per source. Wilfork stays a Patriot. @Ian Rapaport Vince Wilfork’s new deal is for 3 years, averaging $7.5M per year. So, 3 years, $22.5M. $3M is guaranteed. Damnit. I wanted them to lose him
He'll probably suffer another significant injury. Plus the Patriots had to appease him after his tantrum and make it seem like the ship is still tight. Brady still has no receivers
They're paying 7.5 million/yr for a 350+lb DT coming off an Achilles tear. I'd prefer they just keep him and have to deal with it later, his days are numbered and those numbers don't include three more years in the NFL.
He's hurt a lot? The dude has play an increased amount of snaps every season, including 80+% in 2012 and was on the same pace last season I believe before his injury.
