I think Hill has potential. I was a huge supporter of his. But he needs to put up now. This will be year 3, make or break year for him. If he struggles in training camp he's not a lock to make the team.
I haven't thought about it all that much, because we don't know what else the Pats might do this off season. It will be interesting to see what they do in the draft, and what that signals in terms of what kind of team Belichak will be trying to put together. But despite the Revis signing I don't think they are a lock to get to the Champ game, let alone win another SB. They probably will win the division, but will they get a bye from the wild card game? I don't even think that is certain. Revis will upgrade their secondary to be sure. But we don't know if Wilfork will be back, and the Pats could be run on last year. That will likely stay the same. Meanwhile their two TE set with Hernandez and Gronk is mostly gone. Who knows if Gronk will ever return to form. And I did see in Brady some signs of decline last year. They were lucky in drawing the bye and had an easy time of it in the divisional round. Of course the obvious question in the AFC is who besides the Broncos will be a real contender next year to stop the Pats from getting to the Champ Game. Too early to tell.
I think there is a difference between players who were never good not getting better, and players who are good, which it should be expected that they will improve because, likely, the fact that they are good is indicative of not only ability but the correct mindset to be successful, and that mindset will drive the ability further.
I don't want Mesean even a 3rd. If our locker room leadership could put him in check then I would feel differently, but as it stands now I would rather draft a speedster in the first who instead of taking on another person who is bad in the locker room.
Mesean oh my god you totally burned him. I'd love to see some record of him being bad in the locker room though.
I think the Patriots could be even more vulnerable against the run than last year. They lost Spikes, who was a great asset against the run; although with Revis and Browner they may be able to get away with stacking the box a lot. They shouldn't get as many turnovers, and that could cause the offense to suffer a bit. They'll be one of the best teams, but by no means will they be an unbeatable powerhouse team. The Broncos will still be great, as will the Seahawks and 49ers, and then there are some other teams like the Eagles that are on the rise who I could easily see beating NE. It'd be surprising if the Patriots don't win the division, but you never know.
No Spikes and no Wilfork gives them a soft front. Of course they can stack the box a lot with their secondary. Still should be easier to run on than in years past. I do think their offense will be better too. They will win the division but I do think we have a chance to compete for a WC with the Phins.
As much as I like to make fun of the Jets, I think you have a better chance at the WC spot than the Dolphins by quite a bit. Despite signing Albert, their OL is still easily the worst in our division, both their starting LG/RG are gone, no quality depth on the OL (or any position for that matter), their corners are overrated and their safeties are trash with Clemons gone. The only bright spot they have at the moment are potentially their WR's, Wallace SHOULD be better this year (yeah, he's over paid by a mile but that doesn't make him suck) and Givens was having a fine season before the ACL injury. They also discovered a pretty good TE in Clay. But outside of some solid, not great, pass catchers, they might be worse than the Bills.
i see it this way -- under chip kelly Jackson had 20 more catches than any year in his career. Take away those 20 catches and he goes back to his former best year -- 60 catches, 900 yards, 4 TD...worth $10million + a year? you can draft that production.
That seems a bit slanted. If you're going to remove his best year shouldn't you also at least remove his rookie year? What about the year he was injured? I dunno. Watching the guy play it's pretty obvious he's a play maker.
If you look at his non-chip kelly seasons where he played 14+ games he is a 60 catch 1000yard receiver. Now chip kelly's offense was new, fast paced, pass happy (most in the nfl). I don't see him duplicating the type of production he had last year. At best he will do what he has done in the past before chip kelly - 60 catches 1000 yards 4-6 TD catches. I think they can draft that kind of produstion for millions less and much less attitude. $10 million + for a receiver for 3 years when you have no starting QB decided for 2014, and odds are a new one on the roster for 2015, seems like a waste of money.
Didn't he also tie or break the record for most 50+ yard TD's in a season? He may not be the most consistent receiver, but thats what a playmaker is, big play or bust most of the time. Not everyone is a big play every play like the Calvin Johnson's and AJ Greens.
Jackson certainly passes the "eye" test. His numbers indicate that he's in the upper echelon of WRs. For a third round pick and a reasonable, performance-incentive based contract, it's a no-brainer. Like many have already posted, if this group stays healthy, the Jets are going into the year with better receivers than they actually started last year. Decker, Kerley, Nelson, and Hill seem like a solid group. While Kerley and Hill are mostly known quantities, for better or worse, it's not unreasonable to predict a jump in performance from Nelson, who'll be spending his first offseason with this team. Add in an Ebron, Amaro, Seferian-Jenkins, and our favorite team's looking at a legitimate group (or, at least something far better than what we've been watching for the past year, if not two). Similarly, if he stays healthy, Jackson would exponentially increase the quality of this group, but he's not a "must-have" addition to the team.
Better chance of Geno becoming the second coming of Montana/Brady/Young/Manning than Jackson accepting a reasonable performance based contract. He is the offensive version of Revis - pay me my money or i cry.
That may be who he is right now (or at least how sports media are portraying him), and the Jets may pass on him. OTOH, if he believes that much in his abilities, why wouldn't take a risk and bet big on meeting lofty targets for a huge payday? It's just a possibility that seems to be reasonable. even if he had 1 catch a game..that one catch could either be a tiny dump off that he runs a td for or a long bomb down feild that results in a td... hes explosive and thats something we just dont have..
jackson is a game breaker. and when you have mediocure -to-bad qb play you need game breakers. currently the jets have none of those. they need one to take the pressure off. im not big on spending 9-10m on a WR, but in this case its in the jets interests
