I'd be curious if ANY of us genuinely knows dick about these FOs. I watched Money Ball, so I guess I have to most info about about how a major sports FO is run..... oh, and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night, so that clinches it.

Some folks here are genuinely convinced that they know better than everyone else here AND some real front office types.

They are what is colloquially referred to as "delusional".

Obviously a couple extra thirds would be nice, but I love the idea of having 4 sixth round picks.

It gives the Jets a chance to gamble a bit, take a player who is talented but may have fell for one reason or another.

This is the most excited I've been about the draft in a while.

Yes, and his name is Colt Lyerla.

    Yup. That's a prime example.

Someone like Vontaze Burfict from previous years. He wasn't drafted for non football issues, and he's a damn good player.

Maybe someone like Marcus Lattimore who was extremely talented but fell due to an injury. Granted he was taken before the sixth but you get my point.

Yeah I hated Burfict--he was Example No. 1 on how to blow the draft and now I cannot believe how good he is.

If we haven't taken a QB by round 4 and either Mettenberger or Murray are still there, I'd use one of my 4ths on one of them.

Personally I'd love that but I'd be surprised if he lands on a team in the north east.

Why? You don't think NE would take a chance on turning that guy around?

What's with the NE that makes him undesirable?

With four 6th round picks Idzik needs to draft a punter. Even the 5th round. The punting has been mediocre to subpar since Weatherford left.

But what if I, as a self-proclaimed "one of the most knowlegeable posters here" wanted to help "the average football fan" and posted something along the lines of "I'm trying to help you understand the game, you average football fan, you" are you suggesting that I not 'share the wealth' so to speak? anyone we know? : - )

I'm saying you better put him in the game if you want to win.

The NCAA thread has become unreadable. The constant whining about fouls should just be so beneath an adult fan, it's embarrassing.

LOL. That list says it all. Who is James Reed?

You can't just settle for "able bodies" if you're earnestly trying to build a championship contender.

It's in rounds 1 and 2 that I want the sure thing. Picking that high, I can't afford to take a chance in hoping to develop a raw guy (or rolling the dice on character concerns). That's why Ducasse and Stephen Hill were such huge blunders.

Round 3 is a gray area.

In rounds 4 and later, I am looking for upside, especially when you are a team starved for talent. (You use free agency and the waiver wire, etc. to fill in needs and supply "able bodies.")

I don't care if you swing and miss in your evaluation. At least go for it.

I don't even care if it's at a position like Kicker (Blair Walsh to Minnesota in the 5th round) or return specialist (Devin Hester).

All the Scotty McKnights of the world are just throwaway picks.

Way to pick out one name and base an argument on it. Go ahead and ignore the guys like Jason Ferguson and Cotchery who were key contributors on playoff teams. But hey, whatever makes your argument seem plausible right?

It's no coincidence that the the Jets have had terrible depth and haven't had any late round steals while Tanny was busy trading away picks for veterans It's easy to say you want the sure things in round1 and 2 but that's just not the case. It's simply a pipe dream to EXPECT superstars in the early rounds. Upside is nice but it has to be in moderation. Depth is so important in the NFL especially with the amount of injuries that happen that you can't just "swing and miss" and be okay with it. Wayne Hunter's play the last year he was year shows that a vastly inferior player at a position can cripple a team. It's been a combination of the "go for it" philosophy and a lack of late round picks that have left the Jets devoid of talent once they couldn't pay their players anymore.

Some of those guys are good players. Kerley, for one.

One of my points, which you you've missed, is that the list is way too short.

How long have you been a Jets fan? Since the Parcells era at least (Jason Ferguson)?

    Those are the only names?

    Joel Dreesen? Seriously?

Marques Colston, who the Saints took in the 7th round, is better than all of the guys on that list.

What's more, he played at Hofstra, the Jets own backyard literally, where they used to hold their minicamps and training camps!

And you want to argue that this scouting dept. and front office have done a great job over the years?

That's exactly how it worked out with Laveraneus Coles. Him and Peter Warrick (both top receivers at Florida) were caught 'shop lifting'. Coles, a potential 1st round pic, was kicked out of college and fell to the 3rd round where the Jets 'took a chance' on him.
