just reread the question, no I would not give up 3rd rounder, maybe when we had 2 of them but not now. Most I'd be okay with would be a 4th, preferably a 5th which is about all they'll get for him given the depth in the WR draft this year.

I was responding to the poster who said he would not rework his contract and I said "didn't see anything reported that he would not rework his contract". So you seem to be saying the same thing I said, am I missing something?

Actually given his history and now having read reports from the last 24 hours or so I think I'd be surprised if the Eagles get more than a 5th for him. It's just not a good year to be shoping a high priced WR with this years draft talent in the wings. Plus Jackson has no real impetus to renegotiate his contract to allow the Eagles to trade him, he'd be better off letting the Eagles cut him and shopping himself as a free agent. He probably wouldn't get the same money he's getting with the Eagles but he's not going to get that if he renegotiates anyways. I think he'll force the Eagles to keep him and make the big dollars or cut him and choose where he want's to play.

Calvin Johnson's bad years look like Jackson's career year last year. In fact they look better than DJax last year. Also he's huge and as such the CB is more likely to get up limping than he is.

Short WR's with concussion issues are nothing new in the NFL or to the Jets for that matter. Both Chrebet and Coles had significant concussion issues that cut short their careers with the Jets.

All I'm saying is that the "throw the kitchen sink at DJax" crowd aren't thinking really hard about what the impact of actually getting him is going to be. He's going to impact the Jets salary structure in a negative way, he's likely to have durability issues and he's a diva. The Santonio Holmes lesson is that when you get a diva he better be a great player because otherwise the headaches add up over time and eclipse his play value in overall effect.

Last thing, which is important, name the 5 best receivers of the last decade. Show me their rings. Oh yeah, they don't have any. WR is not where you want to have a big cap number any more than CB is. They're both edge positions and the highest paid guys don't play for trophies unless the rest of the team gets them there.

Agreed. However, if we only have to cough up one of our 4ths for DJax, I'd consider moving a pick to move up a few slots to snag Ebron. If he falls to the 12/13/14 range, what would we have to give to move up 5 slots? Our 3rd? I'd love to stockpile picks, but if we get DJax, that removes needing to draft a WR in the first few rounds. In the 2nd we can take BPA and still have a 4th. The thought of giving Geno: Decker/Jackson/Kerley/Nelson/Ebron/Cumberland, with the 3-headed monster at RB might be worth it. Our offense would instantly be deadly and allow Geno to just be Geno.

I'm a Idzik fan , I've supported him numerous times. But, we have no way to know Desean will sign with us. With a trade, he's ours.

So you'd trade Brandin Cooks and Terrence Brooks or Ed Reynolds to draft Eric Ebron?

I'd much prefer to get two quality prospects at positions of need as opposed to one guy, even if the one guy looks better. One guy = one knee or one bust and you are screwed. With two quality picks you're much more likely to come out of the arrangement with a quality player and unlike a trade-up you have at least some chance of coming away with two quality starters.

if it were that simple the Jets would be trading for him. However if it were that simple the Eagles wouldn't be letting him go.

I'm on the fence about Jackson. Yes he has a great skill set and would help out our offense. However he has the greediness of Revis and is a me first player like Holmes.............

What I should have said and what I have read is that he will not rework his contract to take less as part of a trade, just as Revis wouldn't do either. Of course after his release Revis did exactly that and Jackson will too because nobody will give him 10+M a year.

Right. That's why it's not unrealistic to think if he's cut we can get him for 8-9 million, or at least less than 10 million. It would be nice if having Vick and MM would convince him to come for a little cheaper but that's probably just wishful thinking.

For what it's worth when you google search Desean Jackson the top news links listed involve the Jets. So there's that I guess. It doesn't really mean anything but I've been google searching him pretty often hoping there's some development.

Agree with all of this, this guy has a ton of talent but no brains. Didn't he have his house ripped off recently and $250,000 in cash in a safe, plus some other gaudy stuff. DJax is another head case with concussion issues, save the pick for the draft. This guy will be too expensive!

Off Topic - I would like to thank the Mod that deleted my avatar, I mean that. I have been trying to delete it for awhile and the site wouldn't let me do it.

I don't think there's any more than two people in the "throw the kitchen sink at DJax" crowd, but your point is taken. (3rd rounder is not the kitchen sink, if that's what you're implying).

Here's what I'm saying: take a look at the WR landscape going forward and the current state of our team. We have Decker in his prime, Kerley who can very easily be an impact player in his prime with the right team, and the potential of adding Jackson, a receiver in his prime, makes all too much sense. Our young QB will have three reliable targets that operate in every area of the field to learn and grow with.

And as for the WR landscape, there is almost NO one that will be available in the next three years that will be the same price and as impactful as DJax. You have Brandon Marshall (huge money), Jeremy Maclin (would be shocked if he's not back in Philly), AJ Green (huge money), Jordy Nelson (would be shocked if he's not back in GB) as your free agent class next year, for the most part. We are going to have to pay Mo Wilk, and that should 100% be the priority. Not too mention, free agency is a crapshoot to being with.

I'm just saying, I gladly give up a third and pay a guy like DJax $10 mil with the current state of our team and the short term outlook of the WR situation.

Yup, trading up would be a bad move. I used to cheer when we would do that during the Tanenbaum era, not so much anymore. Ebron or Evans would be great but only if they fall to us, and that's not happening.

This is why I think if the Jets want him they should offer a 5th contingent on them being able to rework the contract. Not that I think he will take less but if it is as one poster suggested that he just wants more guaranteed then it might be worth looking into. If all it takes is guaranteeing this season and next season then they should go for it imo, if he is looking for Calvin Johnson type money then the draft it is.
