A week ago i would have given up a 3rd, but now I'm thinking a 4 or 5 with the recent news that the Eagles are willing to cut him.
We already know what his current contract is but I will ask again since you seemed to have passed right over the question. Would you pay him more than $10M or do you think he going to just forget about it if he goes to the Jets?
He will either be traded or cut probably this week after or during the owner meetings. He refuses to rework his deal as part of a trade the same as Revis did so that he can pick his own team. Idzik knows that and the fact he and Vick are buddies probably plays well for the Jets.
His contract is really pricey at this point. Giving up a pick on top of that is iffy. All it takes is one shot to the head and he's sitting a bunch of games. He's missed games due to concussions in 2009 and 2010 and he missed 5 games to fractured ribs in 2012. He's not exactly Mr. Durability at this point.
I didn't see anything reported that he would not rework his contract, the issue is he wants more when they rework it. Not sure if he wants more overall or more guaranteed though.
Why is that? Does this just fall in the "LOL IDZIK WILL LOWBALL AND GET NOBODY FIRE IDZIK#$@#$@@!!!!!" category?
Okay but name me a star receiver that is always healthy. Receivers by nature are at high risk of injury. I don't think I can find one top-tier receiver who is consistently healthy. Wes Welker, Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, Jordy Nelson, starting this year Julio Jones, Roddy White, Demaryius has issues... The list goes on and on. All things considered, Jackson isn't that much more injury prone than any other top receiver out there.
I am torn. Remember, this is a player coming off a career year and his current team may release him. All because of his attitude? We have the cap room and a coach and QB who know him well. Gonna have to trust them on this one. He sure as hell won't want a pay cut but I would wait for release. We can offer familiar system and guarantee some money. 4 years 40 with 15-20 guaranteed?
it sure would be nice to have a guy toasting Revis deep while decker and kerley do work underneath. I can picture belichick steaming on the sideline now.
don't worry, guys. Incarcerated Bob said that the eagles and jets are working closer towards a deal. And if Incarcerated Bob says it, it must be true!
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Just because nobody reports that he wants new contract doesn't mean he won't ask for a new one. DJ already commented that he is not happy with his compensation so I'd say it's likely he wants a new one.
