You can. The problem is a lot of the people are picking and choosing their moral high grounds and if you are going to take a hardline stance then, IMO, you have to do it across the board. I'd prefer we didn't have guys that got DUIs, I wasn't impressed at all when Goodson got his weapon and drug charges last year but did I stop watching the team and freak out about it? No. I think if you are going to take a hard line stance on something if you don't do it across the board then you are picking and choosing where it suits you. I don't know if that qualifies as being hypocritical or not but it weakens your stance in my view. But, again, that's just my opinion. As I said before (maybe in a different thread): People have their minds made up about this type of stuff and no amount of arguing about it is going to change that. I don't think I'm the equivalent of a dog murdering psychopath if I cheer when Mike Vick throws a TD pass...some people will say that I am. Nothing I can really do about it.
Both crimes are terrible but we are talking about the rape of a child compared to the torture of an animal, do I really have to break down which is unforgivable to you?
I do agree that fans choosing to not support the organization over the decision is hasty but I think it's acceptable for fans to treat Vick independently from the rest of the team and root against him. Personally I'll perceive any Vick td passes as Jet touchdown receptions. Luckily he's a temporary fix at best so the point is moot Vick will never lead this team anywhere and won't stick around for a while/become the face of the Jets. Also I believe in the inherent value of becoming a proponent of causes/ideas/movements that aren't necessarily popular or universally accepted, which makes sense. More Americans, for example, probably oppose drug use than animal abuse. Weaker/newer causes deserve stronger voices.
Why must one be unforgivable and the other not unforgivable? Why does it matter to determine which is less forgivable, and how does one determine such?
I tell you what, Vick served his sentence for his crime while Sandusky won't see the fucking light of day for his crime. We are talking about the sodomy of young children compared to the killing of a few dogs, just stop.
I'm not the one comparing them, I'm discussing the standards we should hold Jets players to. Those (aa and cm) are two tangential examples and nothing more. What's worse, the Holocaust or 9/11? You have to choose one, and when you do I'll assume you would feel okay with having a convicted perpetrator of the other as a member of the NYJ organization.
IMO changing the thread title to include PETA is like changing a thread about patriotism to include Tea Party: red herring to incite dissent.
Now we are going to compare the killing of millions of people to thousands and then ask me to pick which one is not so bad? You are missing the point entirely, if you think the rape of a child is the same as the drowning of an animal you have some serious problems.
We aren't talking about a fella that just made a mistake. We are talking about somebody that deliberately caused pain and/or death over and over and over again, probably to hundreds of creatures. Why? Because it was fun to him. Why the fuck do people feel the need to justify this by comparing it to ANYTHING else? This is not a good thing, right? Seems like some people here try to treat anybody that refuses to cheer for a guy that did these things like THEY are the bad guy. Makes zero sense no matter how they try to rationalize it.
Holy shit nobody said that. Derp It is really annoying for every time somebody makes a comparison for somebody to go "omgz you really are saying that's the same!!!!". It happened earlier in this thread with the Hitler thing.
You're not even in the fucking conversation but since you want to get involved at least go back and read what the man asked me. He clearly said what do I think is worst the Holocaust or 9/11.
I guarantee that's not true at all. I guarantee its quite the opposite. Just shows how warped your perception of reality is. Overload, don't even waste your time with this guy.
Why do you randomly assume other people think certain things? If you think child molestation is the same as NYJ football then you have some serious problems.
Do I need to clarify drug abuse and say goodson's case? Weapons charges and driving with drugs? You're confusing activist supporters, who are ardent, with overall support (or opposition). My point is that both are unbecoming of a professional athlete.
I ignored nothing. Hitler was responsible for ordering the genocide of HUMAN BEINGS. To compare the holocaust to Vick's dog-fighting ring is outrageous on many levels. Once you make a statement like "Hitler didn't personally gas...etc" you are making a comparison. Dogs aren't humans. No matter how cute, fluffy or loving they are, they're not. So Vick providing his house for the ring is NOT analogous to Hitler being the overseer of the holocaust. It's an insulting comparison. I said nothing in my comment about forgiveness. Vick doesn't need my forgiveness (although he did seek God's forgiveness when Dungy served as his mentor). He served his time. He went through a normal judicial process and fulfilled his punishment. That's the end of the story. If you're still mad at him and the organization for signing him that's your right and prerogative. But to make this dog thing seem like the worst crime ever is just illogical. Especially if you eat animals or wear leather. What's the difference if a man hacks a cow's head off and minces it all in the name of a good burger? That person is "moral" because it's going to our belly? It's still torturing and murdering an animal. So taking this strong stance on animal rights requires you to equally condemn other people who kill or torture animals to feed you or others. The same with my point about flies. Why is killing them okay? Because you say so? Because they're not cute? It's all subjective and inconsistent and makes no sense.
I'm referring to your idiotic claim that anybody tried to say the rape of a child was the same as drowning a dog.
