I rather have us trade for Dsean then sign him after he is cut because then Idzik will low ball him and hell end up some place else maybe even New England .Belichek likes guys the rest of the league doesn't want ,so best case scenario we trade our 3rd and we get him to restructure his deal to like 8 mill a year
I often agree with you, but not on this one. He's a great player and everything you said is true. That said, if Idzik trades for him, he's a hypocrite. He said he wants to build through the draft. To get DJax, he's gonna have to give up draft picks in a deep and strong WR draft. Idzik also said that he's building for the long haul. DJax is a short term move (a couple of years probably at most). DJax could also disrupt the salary structure and cause problems in the locker room being a selfish, griping player about wanting more money. I'm totally against trading for him, and Idzik will take a huge hit in my estimation if he trades anything higher than a 4th round pick to get him, and even then I will like and trust him a lot less, and be more willing to believe negative things I see about him in the media. This team is not going to be a big contender in 2014. There's no reason to add DJax when they have so many other young players that need to play and develop.
Not looking to keep arguing this... I get it everyone hear knows more than anyone on this matter. I listen to what they say on nfl network. I know crazy me, why would former players, coaches and gms know anything. Don't know what's wrong with me and why I put any validity into there opinions.
If it was any other position id agree with you. But it's a playmaker's league & we've lacked one at WR for far too long. These guys are too hard to come by & if youre gonna win with defense you better have one. As for the character points..we said the same thing about Josh Gordon, Pearcy Harvin, Mike Wallace & many others . In fact, who is a gamebreaker that Doesn't have an attitude/character issue? It just comes with the territory. While I'm excited about the prospect of drafting a WR early..We can't depend solely on that source. Alot of teams could use a Wr & given it's the strength of the draft..wouldn't it be classic Jets for their to be a run on them before 18? Jackson doesn't exactly take the jets out of the WR market early either. They still would need a bigger physical gyy be it TE or receiver OR an underneath YAC guy. I just think this is the one spot the jets need to force thier hand. This cant continue to be an issue moving forward. Not without an elite QB.
I wholeheartedly agree that we've lacked a playmaking WR for FAR too long and it can't continue to be an issue moving forward. The draft simulators and a lot of the mocks have the WRs going early and they may, but I think the Jets shouldn't panic and make a move out of fear. In terms of "classic Jets luck", I think a lot of that was due to karma. The Jets had dumbass excuse for GMs who made bad decisions that snowballed. Luck is opportunity plus preparation. The Jets created their own bad luck. I have already seen that changing since Idzik took over as the Jets GM. I have every confidence that they'll come out of the draft with a topnotch WR prospect if Idzik plays his cards right and doesn't make the panic move for DJax. They should be able to get a very good WR out of this draft, but what good will it do if they have DJax, Decker and Kerley? The kid won't develop because he'll never see the field and won't get that many practice reps except in TC, and would you really want him learning attitude from DJax? Not me. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I want no part of Jackson. I hope Philly is demanding a #1 pick and only Oakland is stupid enough to give it. One playmaker who doesn't have that attitude is Brandin Cooks. I don't think Matthews or Beckham do, either.
Jackson is a legitimate big time talent. If the Jets have an opportunity to land him they should do it. Granted, he was never as good under MM as he was under Chip Kelly last year. Even still though, the guy is a legitimate game breaker who would really change the dynamic of the Jets offense.
You think people are mad about Idzik and free agency, watch what happens if Dsean Jackson gets traded to Clevland or Some were else for a 4th or 5th round pick
Guarantee if DJax comes here that he'll have a huge first year with this team. He's the type of player that feeds off emotion and a challenge. Loves the spotlight and will come out strong as a Jet. It's just year 2 and beyond where you have to make sure he's still motivated to produce. But he should be fine. His attitude issues are overblown a bit.
So NOW you want an overpaid veteran, who costs you a draft pick at least? Lmfao at least be consistent if you are going to act like you invented football. you
What amazes me, people bitch when we don't sign anyone and bitch when we sign someone. If we sign DJ he will be a significant weapon the Jets have lacked for years. DJ isn't a perfect, he comes with some baggage. He's only 27 and has probably 3 solid years left and can make an impact. Here's the IMPORTANT point, trade no draft picks, wait till he's cut or move on and draft a playmaker like Cooks in rd 1.
so if Idzik does everything else well but Geno doesn't work out, he should be fired? that is an asinine claim. you can fail at drafting a franchise QB and still acquire other good players that supersede that one mistake. you are scraping the bottom of the barrel of arguments if you are really attempting to make that argument to pigeon hole those who aren't ready to burn Idzik at the stake just yet.
I saw this post earlier and was actually going to make a searching for common ground 'obviously you love your dog etc' post but now that I got a chance to reply and see your subsequent posts in the thread, I just don't want to do that anymore. Too funny that he's actually named Namath. Because we all know that if you ever throw some Jets apparel on him and walk him around anytime over the next couple years everybody that sees him is going to call him Vick and/or call the SPCA on you immediately. Needless to say I doubt you're gonna be throwing him in the Green and White in public anytime soon. See, the thing is that you didn't actually win the argument despite whatever delusions you're operating under. Oh sure, maybe you had a little point here or there. But then we get down to the heart of your position, build through the draft and nothing else means shit. Don't waste cap space on average players. Don't bring somebody in that's going to make it harder to sign your own young talent 2-4 years down the line. Blah blah fucking blah. 'Oh, Idzik just signed Vick for a bunch of money? Oh, yeah yeah how fucking brilliant I love it. Come to think of it let's give up some draft picks and drop a brinks truck on Desean Jackson's head while we're at it.' Where do you find the balls to criticize me, or anyone else for that matter, who wanted more activity early in FA on solid starting roleplayers? Like I said, you guys are just too much sometimes. It's a wonder you don't spontaneously combust from the staggering hypocritical bullshit you're spewing in this thread. You want to spend almost 3x as much as I wanted to on new contracts during the offseason. Oh yeah, now you want to give up draft picks too. Draft picks, the only thing that matters. Remember? But now it's for your own player infatuation so it's all good though, right? Also, let's start Vick and completely fuck with the development of last years high draft pick by starting him year one, benching him year two, and making sure his confidence is completely fucked forever after that. Or let's have Vick ride the bench, and pay him close to $5M to twiddle his thumbs on the sidelines all year when a solid starter could've been brought in with that money. I'm thinking Vick owes you a nice hard bite or two.
the question was what playmaker wide receivers are not known for having diva tendencies - I was just listing a couple - lots of other players have big contracts and are still problematic (we've had a few ourselves)
How do you know we won't contend in 2014? Do you have a freaking crystal ball? can you give us some lottery numbers then? We barely missed playoffs last year with a skeleton of a roster. Maybe if we add a big time weapon like DJax we WILL be legit contenders.
But not every team has a realistic shot at the Super Bowl that makes the playoffs. Some teams are simply better than others and without a uncharacteristic run of luck, the inferior teams lose and the superior teams move on.
