If he's cut in 2 years he has 38 million in the bank already. I get that he wants to maximize his earning potential but he signed a very fair contract 2 years ago and he's headed into the good years of the deal and he wants to blow it up for more. That's just not the kind of mindset you want to be dealing with when you are trying to put together a championship team. So you bow to his demands and then expect your other young stars to abide by the contracts you lock them up too, as opposed to trying to renegotiate whenever they think the wind has shifted in their favor? It just feels wrong and I think the Jets would be making a bad move if they inject that dynamic onto the team right now. If they can get Jackson under terms of his current contract and he's good with that I'm not opposed to the deal but if it comes with strings and conditions that are going to blow the Jets salary structure up or threaten to do that over time I am opposed.
These are fair points. Your first post made it sound like you meant he shouldn't be on the Jets because he only caught 4 balls a game.
I would agree with that. While all I do is complain about idzik. The one thing that crossed my mind and may have part of his thought process on deciding not to try and sign revis was because of his attitude towards getting paid. I don't think the 12 mill was that scary, I'm guessing with all the young players and quality young guys that are going to be up for contracts soon, there was a legit fear of introducing a guy like revis into the locker room with a f the team attitude get every penny you can from anyone. Could hurt there chances to make beneficial deals going fwd. I'm not sure and don't know anything about d/jak but if he's one of those guys. I don't see the jets making this move.
I'd do it. Sanchez freed up the space that will cover DJax contract for the season. Try to restructure next season and if not... well shit...trade em to oakland for a 3rd! Or Probably get a 4th for sure somewhere. Would be bitter sweet if he was to be here and go OFF this year b/c trading him would be a set back but could get good value for em
This may be true, but we HAVE to spend the money somewhere. With Sanchez cut we have quite a bit remaining, and I believe we have to spend 90% of the cap. We haven't made any big signings yet. This could be the one and it would make our WR core solid for the next 3-4 years. He's got chemistry with Vick, but we'll have to give him decent money.
Drew @DrewfromJersey 4m #Moist RT @PFF_Pete DeSean Jackson & Decker had the 3rd- & 5th-most rec yards on deep passes in 13. DJax signing could make Jets explosive.”
I would like this signing as long as he's not a crazy person. Then I won't do so much bitching about the jets going corner in the first round. I would be very happy with Jackson, decker and kerley. i think thats a solid receiving corp. the question is will idzik spend any money? to this point the answer seems to be an overwhelming NO, know matter how much the jets have. Should be interesting.
Yep it's great that we have him. If it turns out we don't push to hard to get him then it means MM probably warned Idzik. If we do get jackson it's probably in part due to a good endorsement form MM
I am in no way supporting a hold out or him restructuring his current contract in a way the increases his yearly salary currently. I am simply saying its possible his motives are not yearly money based but more security based. When he signed his 5 year deal only 10 mill of the 50 mill was guaranteed. As of right now only 6 mill left is guaranteed of the 30 mill. Its very possible he simply wants security.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 1m Source: Jets have interest in Eagles' DeSean Jackson, but not at his current price. He is scheduled to make $10.25 this year. #nyj makes sense
idzik isn't paying desean, and desean isn't taking a team friendly paycut. might as well cross him off the list and look towards the draft.
I do agree here. He will probably end up being cut and there will be a small and quick frenzy on who can dig deepest. This is where i think we will have a chance to sign him. I can also see the patriots cutting Wilfork for him and the browns will definitely be in it. Should be interesting.
Now that sounds like Idzik. As much as I'd love Jackson, Decker and Kerley, he just doesn't seem like a move Idzik would make.
He would also be a big upgrade on ST. If the Eagles do indeed cut him we offer 8-9 mil with a good chunk guaranteed and he'll be happy.
