He does have game-breaking ability, but he has also shown a tendency to give questionable effort and attitude. Especially with a $9-$10M+ contract and a QB who could struggle to get him the ball, I'd be wary of how he'd fare as a Jet.
One thing we don't give Geno Smith any credit on is the deep ball. Considering D-Jax's game is all about being vertical, it should be a good fit. Interceptions should go down with D-Jax out there instead of Stephen Hill or Clyde Gates (before the injury) https://twitter.com/PFF/status/446296793983107073/photo/1/large
Instant game changer. Although I'm kinda on the fence because I'd love to see the Jets draft Cooks in the first. Yet they can still take Cooks who will be cheap for the first 4 years of his career. It's really hard to pass up a talent like D Jack. If we could sign him to a long term extension and only give up a 3rd rounder for him then I'd say yes let's get him. The Jets WR corps would be top notch with D Jack, Decker, Cooks and Kerley.
people are forget the reason this chat all started is because he opened his mouth about getting more money…he's not happy with the money he's making now…10 mill
I think I remember reading that his wanting to redo his deal is just more about getting more guaranteed money. If that's the case then it becomes even more of a no-brainer to deal for him. 3rd rounders are valuable - but it's hard to discount just how good of a fit he'd be for our offense.
Its hard for me to believe this because it's from Mehta, but Could Jets be in hunt for DeSean Jackson? Source tells me: "Philly is trading him or cutting him. That's a fact. They don't want him" #nyj 11:24am - 22 Mar 14 If the eagles are thinking about cutting him, do we really need to offer a third?
next year decker and jackson would cost us 17 mil i believe. if my numbers are wrong i might retract my statement. based in this years f.a. i would expect kerley around 3mil a year. thats alot in the wr corps, if we draft a wr high this year i don't see where kerley becomes a high priority. based on his production with nothing around him here, someone will pay him pretty nicely.
Where do these people get their "inside sources" from? The Vick speculation, Desean likely being cut, etc..? This just seems way too dumb. How are you going to cut a guy like Desean!?
i still see wr as bpa when we draft, plus decker and jackson's $. and someone outbidding us for kerley in f.a. slightly above average wr's got paid decently this year, same will happen next year.
Those numbers would scare most GM's and I'd have to imagine Idzik wouldn't want any part of that nightmare next year. Ironic that signing Decker might preclude us from signing Jackson.
IT seems to me with the excess of cap space we have left and the minimal percentage you are allowed to carry over, plus the anemic nature of our offence these last few seasons. That signging DeSean would make a lot of sense. Geno and Vick have the same kind of qualities. They can use receivers with pace and a sense of extending plays by getting open. With Decker, Jackson and Kerly we would have a great trio for that kind of play. And with receiving abilities out of the backfield and Tight End it would turn our offence into something to be feared. Give him a Short term deal over the next two years with guaranteed money we can afford to lose. And maybe some incentives. Then in the Draft we can draft some safeties, guards, Corners and Linebackers to fill some of our spaces in our squad. Happy that our offence can pick up a lot more from last season. With that our team could make a real change from all those close games we had.
but its only a 2 year window with that much in the wr corps, decker is easily reworked or cut after year 2 so iys not ike there isn't an easy out if its not working. it can work but it doesn't allevate the pressure of hiiting on wr's in the draft. your going to need that cheap labor to round out the corps
how much would you expect to pay for an entire receiving corps? I would think 20 mil on the ever increasing cap isn't a bad thing. Kerley is our slot receiver - D-Jax goes vertical and Decker / Kerley works on the short and intermediate routes. Marty loves those crossings routes, having D-Jax could give DC a headache.
The whole thing is oddly familiar... Trust me I'm not superstitious by any means but the irony is not lost on me. Smaller receiver, entering his prime, big playmaker, diva attitude, boom-or-bust player, coming off a big year, team wants to get rid of him because they don't want to deal with his attitude/contract, even wears #10. This is literally the mirror situation of when we traded for Holmes in 2010. Holmes had recently come off a SB MVP, but was traded away for less than he was worth. The initial trade for Holmes was good because he only had one year left and the Jets used it as a win now move (Jackson is the same idea). They almost made it to the SB, with Holmes' help, but they should have known not to shell out the big contract in 2013, let someone else pay the price. Jackson is too expensive and will be around for too long, and we aren't in win now mode.
I doubt we give up a 3rd... I think it will be a 4th because its a shit load of cap space we are taking on. I'm all for it bring him in Idzik!!!!!
According to @JasonLaCanfora Most GM's believe Desean will be released, cap space and contract $$ is scaring away too many teams.
