i'm just so embarrassed by this fan base and the media right now. it's amazing how clueless and gullible jets fans are as bullshit reports come out left and right about idzik and the front office. i just have to ask a question, what do you guys even want? everyone and their grandma hated tannebaum because of the hole he dug us into and his inability to draft. he'd want to build through FA and the draft and ultimately that's what set us back. everyone hated it. now we sign a GM who plans to build through the draft and not FA and everyone is up in flames. today there was a segment on NFL network about how they believe there is a "conspiracy theory" that idzik is setting rex and the coaching staff to fail by not spending money. what an absolute joke. i think people forget that we signed the #1 WR in free agency and didn't overpaid, which helped our offense a lot. we also signed a better RT for cheaper and people are pissed off. why would you be mad about that? also, do people forget we have to sign the 2nd best DE in football soon? sign coples soon? sign a rising star in sheldon richardson? sign the best run stuffing NT in football in snacks? if geno is anything more than a mediocre QB then we have to sign him. it's apparent that Idzik is planning for the future and not just this year. isn't this what we wanted all along? future sustainability, not just a win now mentality like tannebaum had. we have 12 picks in this upcoming draft. we will build through this like the seahawks. everyone talks about that amazing defense Kam Chancellor - 5th round Richard Sherman - 5th round Brandon Browner - undrafted Bobby Wagner - 2nd round Byron Maxwell - 6th round Earl Thomas - 1st round ALL DRAFT PICKS. this is what we are trying to do and this is WHAT WE WANTED, yet no one is happy. it's amazing to me teams like the bills, dolphins, and eagles have won in march the past few years and how has it helped them? it hasn't, you win through the draft. also, stop it with us not getting a CB. DRC isn't worth the deal he got from the giants and we were never going to get revis idzik was hired to build through the draft and no FA, it's why he was hired. this is why the reports about rex and woody being angry are just not true, he's doing what he was hired to do. it's just amazing to me
is that a serious post? YOURE GOING OFF OF PAST DRAFTS OVER 20 YEARS AGO? this is the embarrassing shit im talking about
There needs to be a balance.. You can't bank all of your chips on the draft when you have a seemingly endless supply of money, and some damn good prospects out there that can be had... The chances we find 6 defensive starters that we draft 4th round or later are astronomically slim.. The Seahawks got super lucky... Name another team that has had that kind of success with low round draft choices.
All I want is to see the Jets win a SB before I die. Considering I'm 40, it shouldn't be too much to ask. Don't care how they do it.
I think Jets fans want to win a Super Bowl. The thing is everyone has a different idea on the best way to get there. Some people want to sign every UFA available and others act like we can somehow pick bonafide starters with every single one of our draft picks. Neither is realistic. I don't see the harm in using a combination of drafting and free agency without putting yourselves in cap hell. Locking up a young, talented CB for years to come made sense to me even if it took a chunk of cap space to do it. That continues to be my biggest issue with this off season so far and not just DRC.
Considering it's already been 46 years it might very well be too much to ask..go ask the people who were 40 in 1970 about that..if you can find any still alive. That's what I love about the complete idiots on this board who are more than willing to give Idzik 3 or 5 or 10 years to make his plan work..they just have no sense of history.
we want a championship NOW. it is that simple. the problem is disagreeing with our GM's tactics to getting another trophy. we've romanticized the notion of acquiring certain players to reach that end. Idzik values things differently, which is infuriating for those that placed winning a championship in tandem with a previously personally reenforced agenda. X could help us, X is rumored to come to NY by one source another, we have money for X, X is surely going to come to NY,X isn;t being pursued as heavily as I thought he would, X isn't being pursued as much as he SHOULD have been, X signed with another team, X was gonna help us, we needed X, why didn't Idzik sign X, Idzik had the money to sign X, Idzik is a moron for not signing X. other factors such as a player having a previously desired destination, Idzik not feeling the same away about a free agent or our roster, or anything else haven't been taken into account. We want to win a championship and the path we've glorified to get us there wasn' followed despite the capability of it happening. we're tired of waiting and want the next thing that will bring the lomabrdi here, NOW. we've assured ourselves that something that had no assurance of happening would happen and that it would be that set of actions that put us over the top, so we set ourselves up for disappointment. yeah, that too.
Take a look at the Seahawks moves, they are mostly guys picked up through the draft. Seattle was mostly quiet for the past few years in FA, except for Percy Harvin. They waited and signed bargain players later in FA. They won a SB, and have a great shot at a few more.
Yeah they got lucky with those late road picks. If your banking on that for the Jets. I feel for you.
The year before when the Ravens won, they didn't blow lots on FA. The only FA who really was a big part of that SB was Jacoby Jones, and he was hardly a monster signing. The year before that it was the Giants, and who were the big name FAs on that roster? The biggest contributors were drafted guys, Eli, Nicks, Manningham, Cruz (UDFA), Tuck, Umenyiora, Pierre-Paul.
Need I go on? The year before, the Packers made it with drafted guys, and mostly on a franchise QB, the year before the Saints rode on the arm of Drew Brees. The year before that, the Steelers won it, with who? Roethlisberger, Ward, Holmes, Polumalu, Harrison (UDFA), all drafted/homegrown guys.
They shouldv made 1 or 2 more moves in fa i didnt expect dem to get every fa out dere and the fa class was weak neway
I get that the Jets have a lot of talent to sign, and, believe me, I'm a huge fan of long term strategy, be it either through budgeting or succession planning. That being said, I'm all in for whomever can get us a Super Bowl win in the near future. @SufferingJetsFan put it best: Whatever it takes to get there, the Jets have to be willing to pay the price. TB traded two number 1's for their SB win. Similarly, the Rays went (mostly) all in for their one WS win. The Heat's players ate some losses to form a super team and win. Similarly, whomever it is that Idzik feels that the Jets need to win, they should get. And, so, ultimately, whomever I think they should sign is irrelevant. I didn't vote for Idzik. I don't have an ownership share of the Jets. I'm only a fan and I just want the Jets to win the SB. I accept that I have no choice but to trust that the Jets' GM has an idea of how to do his job (i.e., assemble a team capable of winning the SB in the near future). And, unlike some other fans, I'm willing to trust that Idzik is acting in his own self interest by doing his job. Sent using Tapatalk
The problem comes if the Jets make it to the AFC champs game again, even for 2 years and then tank because of their big contracts. I'm glad you have a little faith in Idzik but if you believe going all out and just missing only to suck again is acceptable, you should still want Tanny as the GM.
