the problem with a trade is that it will have cost more than if they just signed a good vet corner at a little higher salary. now it's going to cost draft picks or a quality player and still having to pay the higher salary for a quality cb.

idzik blundered and the sunshiners don't want to acknowledge so. hell, he even admitted so by making another multi year offer at much higher salary to dcr when he realized the giants were ahead of the drc's signing! which of course, ended up being a day late and dollar short!

Oh, I totally agree about how the transaction costs of a trade diminish its attraction. I merely mention it is still possible to get a Cb in a trade. Unlikely that will be anywhere near as good a deal for the Jets as if they had signed a vet Cb in FA, but it is possible it will happen.

I just could not listen to Rex's interview without getting the sense the Jets will do something to avoid having to start Walls.

If the Jets actually end up trading for DJax (which I'm mostly opposed to) how much do you want to bet we go CB round 1. Gilbert or Dennard.

What was his excuse the other years for not learning/developing sound fundamentals and the techniques of his position. He's just freaking lazy. He's gotten by on his natural athleticism and size. Speed and athleticism are the first things to go when one gets older. None of us knows what he was like in the locker room. There could be a number of reasons why the Jets didn't re-sign him other than Idzik is just stupid or slow.

I think there's a good chance of that happening regardless of what happens with DJax.

I think they'll probably go with whoever they think is the best player available, rather than the best CB available.

Last year they took a d-lineman that nobody thought we needed, because he was the highest guy on their board that was available. They didn't reach for a wide receiver even though that was our huge, glaring, obvious need. So I don't think they'll automatically reach for a CB just because that's our most obvious need. If they think they've got an elite player at whatever position, they'll probably take him even if it's not really who we "need".

I could be wrong, but I just don't see the Idzik front office as being panic-driven and using his 1st round pick on the area of greatest need automatically. Could be wrong, though.

If they did draft a CB in the first round, that's not a great quick-fix because rookie CBs often struggle.

I didn't say I thought Idzik would reach for a CB or go for a quick fix. As he has said, he is building this team for the long haul, not for 2014. If Gilbert is there at #18, he could easily be the bpa depending upon how the draft has fallen. Since Idzik isn't building the team for 2014, it wouldn't matter if Gilbert struggled in 2014, as long as he developed during the season and was ready to play at a much higher level in 2015 and going forward.

I totally expect Idzik to go bpa regardless of position. I just hope that bpa isn't at DT or NT.

You couldn't be more wrong. He was a beloved teamate, each off season he brought all DBS out to his house to train during the off season. He was hurt and at 3 mill a year wasn't a bad contract.
