By upgrading from a barely productive $10 million/year WR to a highly productive $7.5 million/year WR. Now we can use the draft to continue getting better.
The subject was whether a DL can be passed over. Of course it can. Yes, a pass rush cuts down the Qb's time to throw. But the Jet DL is better against the run than in rushing the passer to begin with. And any decent OL can buy the Qb enough time often enough to keep drives going if the secondary sucks at pass protection. As for the team getting worse, I think it has. But why I think that is a different subject.
So that's the plan? Hope that we find multiple impact rookies in the draft? That happens so often, it's insane I'm not confident about the plan. I'm happy they signed decker but he is a question mark. There's a huge difference between playing with peyton manning and geno smith.
Holmes this time last year was expected to come back from injury and be productive. All the homers here who say what you are saying last year this time would have been outraged by anyone saying Eric Decker was a better receiver than Holmes. What made Holmes so unproductive was the injury he suffered after he did come back, which this time last year was in the future. I don't know why this is so complicated for the homers here. If the metric is comparing the state of the team this time last year with today, how does it make sense to factor in injuries that later occured? It doesn't. We don't know what major injuries THIS year's team may experience, do we? Of course not.
I definitely would not have said Holmes is better than Decker. I don't think Holmes was as much of a "cancer" as he was made out to be but over the past 4 years he has had a series of suspensions, injuries, drops, fumbles, and fights. His yards over the past 4 years as a Jet add up to 2,128, while being paid like a receiver who should have added up at least twice that. Decker has accrued 3,070, even with one of those being his rookie year, and the second he played with Tim Tebow. He has missed no significant time due to injury or suspension. He also signed for less $.
personally I was very skeptical about holmes coming back and being productive. I know others were too. it was hardly a sure thing or even a good bet.
Also, the metric is not how different we are from last year this time to today, it's how different we are from the last day of the season.
I guess the plan is to now wait until the draft and possible camp cuts everything is finally addressed and sorted out?
Or work out some kind of trade before the draft. Rex may also adjust his schemes to give more help to the corners, since the line can create a lot of pressure without as many blitzes as Rex normally prefers.
Hard to pass over a collapsing pocket.Which is exactly why Rex has emphasized an interior rush. This is exactly what the jets have particularly in Wilkerson & Richardson.I'd expect a big jump in production from this unit as guys continue to mature. A QB can elude a great edge rush by stepping up on or to the side. But it's hard to step up, see down field or make sound decisions with a dirty windshield. This allows the D backs to be extra aggressive or play off depending on the opponent. If theyre aggressive they throw off the timing, wear down finesse guys at the line & shorten the passing range.if they play off they also eliminate the big play & can sit on short routes & bait the qb into mistakes.
Your avatar just took on a whole new meaning. And all for the low, low price of just 5 million dollars. Yours too, sparky.
Thats right. You cant win a legit debate with me about actual football so you resort to avatar bashing.Okie dokie smokie. Ftr, his name is Namath.Purebread doberman.Love him to death. But I keep my love of dogs & the jets seperate.I care about winning not building a boy scout troop. Nice try though.
The real evidence to this argument is the fact that no other team has signed Holmes. If he was so good why is he still unemployed?
Lets talk DeSean Jackson for a minute. Rumors are flying that the Eagles are thinking about moving him and with his more recent tweets, reuniting with Vick is a great idea. The Jets have the pieces as the Eagles most likely would be looking at DP's in return so what does Idzik do if that trade firms up?
The most I'd give for DeSean is a 4th rounder, preferably a fifth. He's a great talent but he's also a bit of a headache. This is a very deep draft for WR's, so deep that I wouldn't mind not taking a WR in the first round.
If you can bring Jackson on board cheaply in a trade you have to look at the possibility. You have to look at it from all angles. If he's good on the field but a malcontent due to his contract then he's the last person you want on this team right now. Superstar Inc may be really good for the player but it is neutral to bad for the team he plays on. If Jackson has his sights set on beating Mike Wallace's deal then he's not going to help the Jets and he might hurt a lot.
i'm a yes. He may not be a #1 but he is a big time playmaker.Jets have needed a guy like this forever. Is he a diva?yes. But all teams have them. They are a necessary evil. The difference between he & Holmes is that he has proven success in marty's offense & holmes never had as good of a wr next to him as decker (cept for edwards in 10).
Credible reporters? Can you name them please? IMO, the Jets don't have many of those covering the team. Perhaps the guy/guys from the Star Reporter. But all the hacks from the NYC tabloids and LI rag are hacks. The Times Reporters used to be pretty good, but I don't even know about them any more.
The Jets have the worst media situation of any team in the NFL at this point. There are at least two writers who essentially are just looking to stir up trouble in the fan base on a continuing basis. They have the biggest talk radio guy in town always looking for a way to snipe at them. All of this stuff gets bounced around the echo chamber on a regular basis and reverberates.
