The last guy we drafted that was supposed to be our superstar was Hill, and he can be thrown into the pile of recent crap picks with Gholston, Sanchez, Greene, Ducasse, Wilson and Keller. I'd love to think it could change this year but I can't help but believe the Jets will draft the one WR in the first round that just ends up not working out while the other 4-5 all explode onto the scene within their first 3 years.
I wouldn't call Greene a crap pick,he was a great third round pick he was serviceable ,and Keller never reached his potential,Wilson would have been a good second round pick but not a first
Looks like the last of Sanchez's potential landing spots are gone. Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 10m So two teams with top 5 picks now each have a different QB dynamic: Houston had Ryan Fitzpatrick and Oakland has Matt Schaub.
Pretty fucked up that we are holding him back when he can be out there making visits... We are releasing him anyway so why not do it sooner?
Wilson wasn't/isn't a talent on offense...that's not to say he isn't an OFFENSIVE talent. Sometimes the stupid crap he pulls on the outside IS offensive to my football sensibilities but he is a fantastic nickle corner. Greene?? Serviceable yes...stud...not even. No, the Jets have pretty much NEVER drafted a stud offensive player if you really think about it. Good...very good...yes. Stud no. Even Joe Willie is debatable as a STUD...as opposed to just Very Good. He got into the Hall pretty much on that one prediction and all the hype that followed. He was the right "colorful" icon for Football at the right time. How can an organization, over the years, done so horribly on the offensive side of the ball? Geesshhhh....
He's definitely not the player he once was, but I don't think he is shot. Remember, he had over 300 yards rushing through the first 6 games before he strained his hammy.
Idzik actually started releasing Sanchez 2 weeks ago but remember, Idzik works at a "deliberate" pace.
Unfortunately, this is a business. The Jets don't owe Sanchez anything. They may have been holding onto him with the intent on bringing him back. With all the QB jobs drying up, he may end up back with Jets at a great bargain foe the team. Or the FO are just dicks.
http://www.tmz.com/2014/03/21/michael-vick-jersey-number-7-geno-smith-new-york-jets-negotiation/ My buddy sent me this hilarity this morning. Since people post Mehta, I figure this was in the same realm.
Idzik has actually began working to sign players from high school class of 2014 to free agent contracts for the 2022 off season. He doesn't want to lose out on anyone. As a matter of fact, Idzik started scouting Eric Decker in 1989.
Drafting a 'stud' is mostly luck. The number of real 'stud' offensive players taken #1 overall should be a decent indicator. Compare that with the total offensive players taken #1 and you'll get a good idea of what a crap shoot it really is. Jerry Rice was the 16th overall selection, the 7th offensive player, and the 3rd WR in that year's draft (yes, the Jets chose Al Toon over him that year). Joe Montana was taken 82nd overall at the end of the 3rd round, and was the 4th QB drafted that year. And we all know the story of Tom Brady in NE. Squirrel/nut.
Schaub to Raiders for late pick. So much for Sanchez getting a shot there. Was kinda hoping he would get that gig.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/21/former-falcons-safety-thomas-decoud-visiting-lions/ Really wanted Decoud or Clemons. Hope we make a push... We won't.
