the little guys in state always want to play the big guys but the big guys can't play everyone. I remember when a similar situation happened w/ the heels and UNC Charlotte back in 1998. Charlotte was an 8 or 9 seed and took the Heels to OT in the 2nd rd before the Heels pulled it out.
lol. You can't play every other program in the state if you're in California. And California happens to be a huge state. As is Texas.
Ohio State won't play anyone. They won't play Xavier, they won't play Cincinnati, they won't play Dayton. They only want cupcakes on the out of conference schedule. Trust me, no one would complain if they at least played one in-state out of conference rival.
You keep twisting the argument. I didn't say every school should be required to play every other school in the state. That's kind of impossible.
Marquette is a cupcake program? Notre Dame? Maryland? They also played American, Delaware, and NDSU, all smaller conference champions.
So what is the limit, then? How many teams should they have to face? And how do you determine which schools for you to be satisfied?
lol. How about ONE school? ONE. You want to turn it into me trying to force Ohio State to play every single school within 100 miles. Xavier, Cincinnati, and Dayton ALL want to play Ohio State and have requested it and Ohio State won't schedule them. And it's not just this season. Why? They'd rather play Morgan State, Bryant, North Florida, and Louisiana-Monroe
But every major school in the country have a few games like that on their schedules. How about Marquette? Notre Dame? Maryland? They also played American, Delaware, and NDSU, all smaller conference champions.
A 15 seed, a 13 seed, a 12 seed, and 3 schools that didn't make the NCAA tournament. Very impressive. I take it back, Ohio State plays a very strong out of conference schedule and is obviously not ducking anyone.
Hack, love 'Nova so take it for what it's worth: Yisman's spot on correct: Ohio State has had an historical 'rep' for ducking Dayton and even Digger Phelps and a bunch of former NCAA coaches on the NCAA brackets show this past Sunday were laughing while making mention mention of it. Further, they joked how it would've been all the better had OSU had to play UD at the UD Arena which is a venue that traditionally hosts NCAA midwest regional games. It's not like OSU is snubbing an NAIA or D-II school. Cincinati, Dayton and Xavier have all at one time or another been a national powerhouse in basketball. OSU is 4-3 all time vs. Dayton, hardly David-Golliath. However the fact that an in-state D-1 school has only played 7 times (including "having to" today) in over a century pretty much underscores the 'duck' rep. (that is, when it comes to UD--I know they play a tough out-of-conference schedule). back in november

I'm not following you at all. When EXACTLY do you cross the line from scheduling against who you want versus "ducking". For example, UNC has not scheduled a game against Villanova since 1996. Can I accuse junc of supporting a school that is "ducking" Villanova?
You keep changing the argument. Does Villanova even want to play UNC? Are they a local rival? WTF does Villanova/UNC have to do with Dayton/Ohio State? Next you'll say the Miami Heat have been ducking the Jets.
Name one school in the country who would not want to play as storied a program as UNC? They aren't local, but they are a HUGE rival to me. I feel (junc doesn't) that a ref screwed us out of a Sweet 16 game seven years ago. We also lost to them in a Final Four in 2009. I am trying to demonstrate what a dangerous precedent you are setting here. Without specifically classifying what qualifies as "ducking", you are opening a Pandora's Box where any team in any state can challenge another team, get rejected, and then blast that team for "ducking" them. You don't see this as a problem?
There's no dangerous precedent. It's a fact that Ohio State refuses to play in-state rivals. It's also a fact that most other schools do play in-state rivals. You then bring up UNC/Villanova as if that has any bearing on this. It doesn't. Neither does Albany/San Diego State.
OK, so you brought up St. John's. http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400498717 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400504486 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502511 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400504509 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502737
You also brought up UCLA to somehow show that Ohio State is justified in never scheduling local rivals. http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400506588 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400498038 http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502943 And the St. John's and UCLA examples were just from this season. You know how many times St. John's and UCLA have played local rivals since the last time Ohio State did during the regular season?
Like I said, you're being deliberately obtuse. UCLA cannot play every school in the state. They do, however, play some schools from the state EVERY YEAR. Same with St. John's. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basket...n-rivalry-in-need-of-revival?urn=ncaab,wp3101
I am not a god but you do worship me, you spent an awful lot of time concerned w/ me. Dayton isn't a little guy?
