Idzik on Cro leaving: We told Cro we would welcome him back, weren't closing the door. Both sides have to feel good it's a fit. #nyj Really, must have low balled it
The sad thing is he was terrible and probably would have been bad this year as well...but Walls couldn't take him over last year and now we'll never know if he would have beat him out for a spot this year but there's literally zero reason to believe he would have. Maybe we can draft a CB that can come in and play but Dee was a highly touted CB prospect (albeit coming off injuries) and he sucked worse than Cro for out 3/4 of the season. Fact is that Cro was not the future so if they address the CB position long term instead of a one year deal for an aging vet with injury issues that's a good thing. It sucks that we're probably going to end up using a high draft pick on CB AGAIN and I think Idzik really dropped the ball on the CB position both for this upcoming year and the years to come but that's the position we're in now. I hope all you FO homers are right and he's got some genius master plan that we'll all be really impressed with. Personally I'm not holding my breath.
That is possible but Arizona surely didnt mind taking a chance on him this year. Surely their doctors examined him and he looked fine to them. None of us are doctors and we have no clue but the way its coming across is that Idzik looks very cheap right now and could of easily brought in a CB to hold the fort down for 1 year until we developed another. Walls is not starting material and anyone who thinks otherwise is in for a rude awakening.
I'm kind of happy about him leaving... every time I hear his name I get pictures of my head of receivers beating him.
Im a border FO homer. I do believe idzik went into FA with a plan and a good one at that. Problem is with him being a first time gm i also believe he fumbled the ball and his plan did not work out. We made a few offers we failed to sign them but the only one i feel like he truly fucked up with is the DRC one year prove it crap. The guy may have not been great but he was quality #2 in denver and he got a contract that fit his position. High signing bonus to finish out his career with a low cap hit number. Now that being said im sure he has back up plans and that may not be building a playoff team but so far he has not done a single thing to damage or even possibly damage the future of this team. This alone Idzik>Tanny
Well I would suspect that if our corners were god awful there would be more urgency to improve that position. All signs have pointed that there is not much urgency which leads me to believe that they believe that the guys on the roster are sufficient. Even DRC, people freaked out over him but lets say Idzik has him graded 8/10 and he has Walls graded a 7/10, is it REALLY worth it to go from paying walls $500,000 to having to pay DRC $8,500,000? Is a slight improvement worth that much? I dont think so. Its actually entirely possible that they believe Walls is better than DRC, which would obviously make zero sense to pay DRC when it would be actual regression at the CB position.
He's going for the most money and i dont blame him given his child billing and all. Must be a big 1 yr deal.
Dee's role was increased late in the year, he was the one following the other teams top WRs. he played really well but he was poor most of the year. was it just a good stretch or did the light go on? our 2014 season kind of depends on the answer to that question.
Cant wait to see milliner at the 1 all year after a full off season. I have no worries... its the guys competing for whatever spot Kyle Wilson doesn't play in that worries me. I like Walls, at one point i was convinced he was PLAYING like our best corner until the marvin jones game. That when he burned his bridges with rex as did milliner but he had no choice but to give him more chances as a first round pick.
I'm at the point where I just want to see the offense upgraded. Last season Smith and his band of merry men were unwatchable. Thank God for the defense. If Idzik drafts another cornerback, so be it. But if the offense resembles anything like it did last year, I'm going to lose it.
We'll see. FA isn't over. Additional players will be released following the draft, and again during and following TC. Unless this is some sinister plan for the Jets to tank so they can get the #1 pick in 2015, I'm certain that Idzik will do something to address the position. Patience, grasshopper.
Under that scenario, he made the right decision. However, it's still troubling to me that Walls never took significant snaps away from a terrible, injured Cromartie last year. Has he developed so much since then? Only time will tell.
Then it comes more down to the FO's talent assessment than anything. If he's right then it was smart and that's great as it'll save us some cap space (although we aren't exactly struggling with cap space at the moment) but if he's wrong then it's a pretty huge blunder both for this year and the coming years.
