No ones apologizing, but why would Idzik sign a corner if he believes he has a better one on our roster currently?
Have to agree here. I a big Cro fan and supporter but injuring that same hip the age et ect ect . I would have cut loses here also. Cro was great having ya man but definitely was time to part ways. Anyone know much of the Justin kid we picked up from SD's cut list.
30 is the age of big dada in the NFL. When you get a 30 year old player returning from an injury-plagued season the odds favor more of the same. When you're trying to build a Super Bowl window signing players who are low upside and also don't offer much in the way of current guarantees is just a bad move. Would the Jets have been better with Cro on the field next year than with whoever they wind up with out there? Who knows? And that's why they didn't sign him. The Johnathan Joseph rumor was undoubtedly false but he's much more the kind of 30 year old guy that you want to add to this type of team. Consistent good play makes him a much better guarantee of success next year and at least you've got something in the hand after you make the move instead of still wondering what is going on. With Walls you don't know what you have either but he has some upside potential to go along with that and he's dirt cheap.
Despite Cro's poor play last year, I am letdown by this news. Its a 1 year deal, I don't understand why you don't target him just for this year. We must really love Gilbert/Dennard or some other cornerback in the draft.
Bob Glauber @BobGlauber 1m Jets GM John Idzik on CBs: "There may be trade talks, players become available that may be of interest. We feel like we're prepared to act."
Milliner will get an increased role and Wilson, Walls, Lankster, and Dowling will compete for the 2 and 3 spots. We're rebuilding so it makes sense.
I don't think a plan can revolve around the draft. People get drafted early. Teams move up to grab guys they like. That's why BPA is coveted - you don't have to worry about missing a guy you coveted or a position of need - you just grab the best talent and then adjust your roster accordingly.
Of course we're rebuilding, but that does not mean we have to put players in a position to fail. The Jets are trying to get to the playoffs this year, and Rex Ryan virtually has to make the playoffs to save his job. This definitely concerns me.
This and Cromartie is not a long term answer. It would be merely patchwork. He might have played good for 2014, but its possible Walls can match the production, but heading into 2015 Cromartie would in all likelyhood be winding down and it would be better to solve this problem now rather than next offseason/2015 in which the pressure to make a deep run will start to begin
Says who? the same media that had him fired over a dozen times last season? including him being fired going into the final game?
I agree though BPA does not mean getting a DLineman or LBer(Even outside, Pace is fine as a starter)....you do need to go after a huge hole on the team at some point.
Has it even occurred to you that the Jets might have more insight into Cro's health than you? As has been stated many times, Cro's technique is bad. He's been lazy and gotten by on his athleticism alone. As he gets older, he's going to have more and more troubles. His hip condition may be chronic. If his play was at last year's bad level or only marginally better, would you really want him back here starting? Not me.
what trade talks are we having with a big time cb? i honestly cant think of one cb thats worth trading for right now. not one.
You're right, it's not a necessity. That said, missing the playoffs 4 years in a row is a big deal, especially if Idzik doesn't like Rex. I don't know their relationship nor do you, but no one can deny that getting to the playoffs is a better scenario than missing the playoffs. Hopefully our coaches and GM are confident enough in our current cornerbacks to reach that goal.
