really, "still"? this was an 8-8 team picking in the lower middle of the draft, how exactly are we a joke? a mediocre team looking to make the next step would be a more accurate description, teams like the jags, raiders, bills and browns are the jokes of the league
Then there will be plenty justification for a change in how things are being done. We've come a long way since the clown car days of Tebow so I wouldn't call the Jets a "joke" anymore. We may not be a great team, but certainly a team not to be taken lightly.
The Steelers had a real franchise qb,we have Geno Smith and until we figure out what the answer is at qb nothing else will matter
It's a fair argument, but Ben rode the coat tails of a good defense, and a good running game with some help from his then QB coach Bruce Arians to win his first SB. I'm on board with you about a franchise QB, but can we truly say that smith is not an NFL qb capable of winning? Russel Wilson was a third round pick, why can't smith turn out to be a hidden gem? Put some weapons around him and give him a chance.
Smith is fine. The guy makes all the throws and is a phenomenal athlete. His 40 time is faster than Kaepernick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, and he's a better cook than Russell Wilson. LMAO - who gives an F what his 40 time is? For an NFL QB, that's almost as relevant as how hot his wife/girlfriend is. I'm not saying he's terrible, but he certainly didn't show "I'm an all-star" in Year One.
Yep. You really have to reach to find much "promise" in the franchise Qb these days, or what passes for one according to the homers.
No activity? It's more like you are an illiterate dumbass. Jets brought in quite a few players and signed handful including Decker. That's not how you say 'almost no FA activity.'
LOL The only illiterate, time challenged dumbass IS YOU! Way to respond to a post I made over a week ago when the Jets had ALMOST NO FA ACTIVITY including not having signed Decker yet. Next time you should look at the timestamp before you make yourself look like a fool. The problem with this board is illiterate, dumb, blowhard jackasses who talk smack like you and can't back it up. You certainly fit the bill after just being made to look like an idiot.
I'm very glad the way things have gone in recent months, Idzek has shown that he has backbone and will not be bullied pr swayed into making decisions that do not fit into the re-build plan. Do enough to keep us competitive this season in FA, thus far that's being addressed, remember its still not over. Then we go.... 2014 Draft; pick up 12 rookies 2015 Free agency: Address impact needs 2015 Draft; Draft 7 rookies (at the moment) WHY all the worry in rushing to bring the first available FA? I like the way things are progressing and have no reason (yet) to think that Idzek and Rex won't get the job done.
For those who are loving Idzik's approach- what would be a good offer to Vick? I would love to hear your thoughts in advance of his meet.
Vick is a really complicated issue to deal with. He's not that good at this point in his career and he's old and he's injury-prone. He would definitely provide some competition for Geno. However if he won the competition it would leave the Jets FO gagging and looking for the next shot at a franchise QB next season in the 2015 draft. The important thing to remember is that with all the revolving door QB's that Seattle brought in looking for their guy none was as old as Vick. So if you sign Vick you're setting a parameter that ultimately may force your hand as early as 2014 but more likely in 2015. One key stat for Vick is that he's 5-11 in his last 16 starts for the Eagles. Nick Foles is 9-7 as the guy who relieved him both years and that includes a bad 1-5 as a rookie. It doesn't get a lot of light shined on it but QB W-L is a big factor in terms of opportunities moving forward. One of the reasons that Kyle Orton isn't considered for a starting gig anywhere is that he's 6-16 in his last 22 starts.
3 year deal 12.3 million a year 32 million guarnteed and a 6 million dollar signing bonus.Sorry I was channeling my inner Mike Tannenbaem
You are assuming the players we passed on were perfect fits. Why? I get why peeps would say that about Revis, but even there it isn't completely clear if he is the player he once was. With the others it is much less so. Again, Revis is an excellent example of why you don't just take any player, no matter how good, and plug them into any system. So many peeps are assuming that we've passed on "perfect" players for our team, but this just isn't Madden. Chemistry, systems, experience, etc. all matter and for whatever reason to FO felt that the FAs weren't worth their price. Now the FO might be wrong, but given our past with throwing money and draft picks at problems I would think more people would be thrilled at the cautious approach.
