Very nice read...So Idzik took two hours to respond and that was considered dragging his feet. Thank you for sharing that. Thank God there is something besides Metha's garbage out there to read.
That's a good article. I'm just a little concerned about this part: "The representatives for Rodgers-Cromartie called the Jets to give them a chance to up their offer but told them they needed a fast answer. According to the source, Idzik took two hours to respond. By then, Rodgers-Cromartie had picked the Giants." Was he trying to send a message or something by waiting two hours? I wonder what his response was.
No, he was trying to come together with a logical offer that was worth what he saw in the player. Instead of just giving an offer to beat the Giants, he thought out his plan. If an agent can't wait two hours, he never wanted a counter offer.
no doubt thats an interesting tidbit. jets have to be a bit careful here as the early word on the street about the GM is gonna be a tough nut to crack going forward.
Are people really getting mad about a back up quarterback? Vick will never have to play.. If he was needed for a game he could come in and play well. He's not going to be asked to play 16 games. Would you guys rather have a guy like Garrard or Brunell?
I'm fine with signing Vick, he wouldn't be my first choice but there aren't a lot of options out there. Should provide good push for Geno in camp but probably won't take the starting role, if he does he does. Odds are he gets hurt at some point anyway so we'll see Geno start some games one way or another this year. Worst part about it is going to be if my wife finds out about it. I will never hear the end of it as Mike Vick is one of a handful of NFL players that she knows by name and appearance and not because she's a fan.
clearly if he was a priority he would have upped his offer. he is not letting agents dictate things, he is in control.
Considering the Giants are giving him $10.5 mil in his first season, I'm glad Idzik told the DRC camp to ef off.
they are getting mad BECAUSE they think he will play. either bc they think he will beat geno in camp, because of MM, who revived his career in philly with this offense, or bc geno will eventually get hurt/benched and leave the door open for him.
I think the message was, we're not getting into a bidding war. If we had countered, the agent would had called the Giants to up their offer, then us, then the Giants...
When you're signing your own people this isn't a problem. They have nobody else to negotiate with so taking your time is always the right move. When you're negotiating with free agents it isn't a problem either. You can't be rushed into a bad move and every move you make is well thought out in terms of it's impact on the cap and roster. The Jets took a solid 24 hours to make the offer Eric Decker couldn't refuse. He's here at a good price and both sides are confident they made a good deal. That's how you make a veteran free agent signing work. Going 6 hours from interest to signing is why the Fins are still stuck in a rut fifteen years after Dan Marino retired. It's why the Bills are doing the one wagon circle, as in Blazing Saddles.
PS we're all entitled to our own opinions buy why is there so much hate and vulgar animosity on this page show some respect to each other
I don't know about that. Of course we don't know the facts but the rumor was the Jets offered him a 6M one year "prove it" contract. If that's the case then maybe the call was asking if they would match the Giants offer, not would they beat it.
