Again, the CB position, like WR, takes a lot of games for players to develop confidence and to adjust to the speed of the game.

Once Milliner stops thinking and starts reacting, like a cheetah on the hunt, the game will slow down for him. We all watched Revis go through the same thing in year 1, a little less in year 2, and then in year 3 hit his stride.

    How do we forget that?

Milliner may not light the world on fire this season but even if he plays better than he started it will still be an upgrade in CB play.

On the field, yes. Off the field, no. From all accounts Cooks is a team player and never a locker room problem unlike Jackson. Also Cooks is put together much more solid than D Jack.

I didn't address off the field demeanor bc I didn't know enough to comment on this.

    Thanks for the update.

I guess the upside to trading a third for Jackson would enable us to take a TE at 18. Then we would have Jackson and Ebron instead of just Jackson 2.0

If he is there..last year a team jumped ahead of the Jets to take Tavon Austin because the Jets would have taken him. Same can happen with Cooks.

It's possible...but weren't you saying the value wasn't there at 18 and he wouldn't last until the Jets' 2nd round pick?

Of course, you go into the draft with contingency plans on your big board. So if you lose Cooks, you go with your next player which may not be a WR.

Would rather get Cooks at 18. Pass.

I think Cooks is the pick too but I can't help but think Jackson and Ebron/Clinton-Dix.... is better than Cooks and a who ever we get in the third.

Idzik will go into this draft, like every draft, with his top 10-20 players in all of college NCAA football.

In round one he will take the BPA, same as he will do in round 2 (maybe even round 3). The remainder of his picks he'll do his best to find a diamond in the rough (which he has an excellent track record of) while giving Rex/MM players in positions they need NOW. If the last REALLY REALLY REALLY good player on his list is still on the board at 15/16, he MAY toss in his 3rd to move up, but it would have to be REALLY special player in a REALLY weak draft.

2-3 yrs from now Idzik will have the Jets stocked with home grown super-talent and thanks to the low ball $ he offers temporary 'B' FAs, he'll have the cap money to keep paying them.

Hell Idzik has been so good with our cap he could extend Mo AND Richardson TODAY of he wanted. Compare that to Tanny up against it with just Revis 2 years ago.

Where we can judge Idzik is if when he picks at #18 the BPA is a WR, FS, OLB or TE and they are all REALLY close. Which one does he tag?

That may depend on what he thinks/feels/guesses may still be sitting there in Round 2?

    It worked with Richradson/Geno.

And I like Idzik's BPA appoach. You'll will never again have a TGG thread: "Kyle Brady when Sapp was still on the board??? WTF???"

Could we afford Desean though? Is he really worth the baggage?

while ur assessment of the young mans current behavior off the field may be spot on - it becomes an absolute crapshoot when these young men only begin to mature while stuffing their wallets with NFL money. thats what makes the draft such a gamble in many ways. thats why some GM's are more aggressive in free agency than others - go after a known quantity even at a premium once the player has put in a few years at this level.

not endorsing jackson at all as i think his antics outweigh his benefit on the field at this point in his career- i think its best the jets stay put and look at the draft for upgrading the WR spot. for the jets sake i hope cooks is one of those guys who gets it from the start. we need to hit big time in this draft.

I was but I am changing my mind..not because I think he is necessarily worth the 18th pick but because the Jets are desperate for a play maker which he probably is. However, before the combine where was he on your list?

We would never take him on his current contract which has 3 years left at 12M each..that's just insane.

Problem is I think he thinks he is still worth that... I can't see him wanting to accept anything lower than 10M.

No, but once you see his bio-metrics at the combine, he immediately goes on the list.
