A good DC can take average players and make them good. They can take good players and make them great. Armed with a handful of good players a great DC can mold a top ranked defense. Most football experts will agree a DC who becomes a HC should use his best draft picks on the offense, since they usually don’t have the experience to coach up that side of the ball. Therefore compensating by dedicate more resources to the offense. The Jets have done the opposite. Rex who was supposed to be a great DC, has done everything for his Defense and let the offense drowned in futility. The last four years we have spent five 1st round draft picks on the defense and the largest portion of the cap. Our current defense has no proven starts at CB unless your count Milliner who was benched three times last year. Our safety position is just as bad with our starters being a huge question mark. Our best defenses were in 2009-2010 and they were made up of mostly players Rex didn’t draft or sign, yet he was given all the credit. Additionally, Rex has been the HC for the selection of two QBs whom were supposed to guide us to the Promised Land. Sanchez was the worse rated NFL QB for 2011-2013, Smith had even worse numbers than Sanchez ever did and was the bottom NFL QB of 2013-2014. Now people can blame the bad picks on the GMs or the scouting department, but the truth is the buck stops with the HC. Rex has even said so in his interviews. Everyone knows Idzik wants to bring in his own HC, but Woody and the fans have supported Rex enough to make him back down and even give Rex a one year extension. The Jets are ready to crash and burn this year and Rex’s defense isn’t even a top ten despite the money and picks he has invested over the years. The smoke and mirror will not protect Rex much longer and Idzik will get his way and have his own HC. The way the Jets are headed they will have a top ten pick next year and have a lot of cap space for the next HC. All the Rex supporters can say what they want, but the facts show the draft picks and money have been to support the defense, and even with the great Rex coaching it, they were little above average.
Please go away. And change your avatar, lmao. How can a 2nd round pick even become a "bust?" He wasn't taken 5th overall.
Can someone point me in the direction where I can find where most experts say that head coaches that used to be defensive coordinators should draft heavily on the offensive side to make up for their deficiencies.
I'd hope they wouldn't draft their weakness...that the frigging GM would take care of that! Hell, I'd let Marty choose offensive players before Rex.
