He will have to pay 2.5M for that privilege on the 25th..if he wastes that money and can't sign any FAs he should be fired on the spot.

Unless the 25th rolls first and he has to pay for his bonus

Wish we could just trade for Schaub straight up.

  4. I don't agree w/ anything ANY of you dark siders are saying. It's so negative, short sighted & toxic..I'm starting to lose the "entertainment value" of this whole thing.

You're all essentially mad about this coming year & nothing else. Throwing tantrums & pouting like children a week into FA b/c the Jets didn't sign the high profile guys you/the media wanted.

I'm tired of hearing about how bad this secondary is supposively gonna be. Did it ever occur to any of you that we're trying to get younger at the position? Why is that so hard to grasp. I'm trying to figure out who exactly in the secondary is so horrid that they're gonna make us "the worst secondary in football". It's complete utter nonsense. Get a fucking clue. Milliner/Wilson/Walls/Lankster/Dowling may not be flashy...but they all have decent size, all can play man, all can run & all can tackle.WHy does this get shunned? Why do we need a superstar at CB to be a functional defense?

When in this franchise's existence have we ever taken this patient rebuilding approach? I certainly don't recall it ever occuring. All I can remember is wave of foolish spending sprees after waves of cutting bait to get under the cap. A vicious cycle of overpaying/mixed returns/cut bait. We've had NO sense of stability. NO sense of identity. If you want a reason why we've been waiting for over 40 years..that's pretty much it. So why crucify a GM who's taking a drastically different approach & trying to build something sustained?

Furthermore, Why do you think Idzik is withholding the funds? Sorry..I'm not taking the beyond ridiculous Manish Mehta conspiracy that he's trying to get rid of Rex. Please. Fucking enlighten me as to your theories as to why Idzik is not spending money & why in the LONG TERM it is detrimental to the franchise?

Only thing I have a problem with Idzik about has been the inability to sign a cornerback. I thought the deal DRC got from the Giants was a pretty fair deal and Idzik could have matched it. Other than that though I don't really have a problem with how he has gone about things this offseason.

Just because the Jets have cap room, it doesn't mean that they should go and spend it all away. I wasn't really that impressed with this year's crop of free agents anyway. I remembered thinking to myself that the Jets seem to always have cap room when there aren't that many good players on the market. I'm glad Idzik isn't messing up the future of the team by over spending on a bunch of guys who don't deserve it just because He has the cap room.

There is still plenty of time to go before the season starts. There will be players cut due to salary cap issues. Things will work themselves out in time.
I'm just happy the person in charge seems to be thinking about winning long term and not just making the playoffs next year. I have seen the Jets make the playoffs enough times and fail then go back to sucking. I'm ready to see the Jets become a team that is a contender on a yearly basis. And I feel the way Idzik is going about it is the right way. Now we just need the right players

Good points here.. Not sure what media im reciting but alright.. Even last years roster was a failing teams roster but we overachieved thank god. Our draft will be the difference between this year and last years roster as u pointed out.

I don't think anybody is trading for Schaub given his contract ($10.937M this year, $13.5M next year, $15.5M in 2016). Both Schaub and Sanchez are going to be cuts at some point. I believe the Jets have to blink first because they have the $2M roster bonus due in a week.

Draft + Decker - Holmes = better team.

Everybody can stop the whining and the temper tantrums and the I am holier than God sermons...the proof in the pudding will be the record we put up this year and everything else is bullshit.

They got rid of some of the leaks now they have to get rid of the rest. Idzik is boss and if some of the guys in Florham Park don't like it they can go too. Probably the same guys who still want Sanchez to be the starting Qb. So if you like the word distraction that's it. People who are not onboard,

Anyone who is concerned about Idzik's approach, please read this: http://minorleaguemadhouse.com/2014/03/18/the-rationale-behind-john-idziks-wait-and-see-approach/ . It may not completely alleviate your concerns, but it makes a lot of good points.

Here's the very end of it, though the entire article is great.

Though we likely will, remember that Idzik gave Revis his $1 million bonus just a few weeks before trading him. Though he could have traded him before the $1 million was due, it was worth the wait.

For Sanchez, there's a chance we restructure his contract and either 1) keep him or 2) trade him to the Raiders/Browns/Texans.

All of the people complaining that Idzik isn't doing enough in Free Agency are being ridiculous. Idzik has a plan and you don't just throw that plan out the window because you get all excited about an 8-8 season. Idzik believes that to establish and maintain success you sign bargain contracts to get useful role-players that your coaches can successfully utilize, you build through the draft, maintain competition, extend your homegrown talent, and only hand out those big time FA contracts to the players you truly believe are special and can put you over the edge (Percy Harvin with the Seahawks).

Rex isn't a talent evaluator he's a head coach, yea he evaluates talent to a degree but that's what the GM and scouts get paid for

2013 was the best draft we had in years, and anyone who has been a Jets fan for more than 6 months knows that. DROY and defensive rookie of the month, and a number of starters. We have already improved as a team, so lets fill out our roster with penciled starters and hit the draft. Rex coached the team that supposedly had the worst talent going into 2013 (ranked 32nd don't forget) and finished in the top half of the league and fighting for a playoff chance. Lets not get antsy, lets properly build a team that Rex can coach up and win the division for the next 10 years and stick it to the Pats when Brady retires.

Yeah, I could see Idzik shopping him around to those teams, for the right price. On the other hand, without him we don't have a real backup QB.

I agree. He has to sign Cro now that DRC is off the market.
