Doesnt the new CBA state that all teams must spend 89 percent of the cap? The Jets will have to spend at least 118.5 million.

Depending on where the 2015 cap falls we already have somewhere between 50-70M to spend next year on top of what we have now..stop worring about the players we have to re-sign, there are only a few and we have more than enough to go around.

Problem is some here think all GM's have the same role with each team, pointing out Ari Nissam who had the same job title with the Jets as Idzik previously had with Seattle is evidence of this.

Idzik pretty much let it be known that while they would utilize FA and trades, the draft would be the main focus.

“We’ll explore every measure to bring in talent and continue to compete. The draft will be very important to us. That will be a lifeline for us, year-in and year-out,” he said. “We will use free agency. Again we will be very thoughtful, do our research and be judicious in free agency. We will use trades.”

He was Asst. GM with Tampa the year they won the SB. He had started as Pro Personnel Asst. with them and also had previous coaching experience. Basically he has been around football his whole life and 2 of the 3 teams he held high position in won the SB while he was there or the year after he left. That there makes me say he should be given the benefit of the doubt and give him at least 2-3 years to see if his approach works.

How many times does it need to be said that, that is irrelevant if he brought the proper staff over to the NYJ? How do you know which scouts he brought? There are GMs in this league who are not player personnel guys but are being given great information on who to take, its really not that hard of a concept to understand.

Perhaps they believe Ras-I Dowling can be our #2 CB? who knows? none of you guys are in the meetings, and if you are then good job reaching that level.

Ftr many here, including FO Homers such as yourself, are viewing 14 as a rebuilding year. And who said that is based only on one week or whatever???

    You just make crap up.

Nice that you ignored the point about not being able to fill all the holes in the draft.

    "We have twelve picks!"

    Heh.

I don't see how this has anything to do with the fact that we can still draft players late that can start.

yes we have 12 picks. and we have the rest of FA until the season starts. unlike you, I'm not declaring '14 a down year after one week. I didn't make anything up, I directly quoted you. you need to chill out.

I'll tell you this, if '14 is a down year, it's because Geno still sucks, not because we didn't sign the FA's that you wanted us to.

Its irrelevant, even if Idzik was completely clueless, it doesnt mean he cant draft players, a lot of these GMs draft based on the scouting information they receive. If Idzik has some good scouts giving him great information, that he trusts, he would take the information and draft the player that he was advised to take.

Currently Idzik operates in a BPA, the scouts/coaches/etc make a list of players 1-200+ and when the draft comes, they have that list and will take the best possible player they have graded sitting their. No debates in the war room because everything is figured out prior, every situation is figured out prior.

you can argue he didn't hurt the team with any irresponsible signings. i'd agree with that.
also agree with concept of signing our own as first priority.

But he also has not improved the team. I don't see how we'll have quality competition at a number of positions based on the current roster. we actually created more holes than we filled.
We could have improved the team w/o locking up too much future money with high guaranteed contracts.
I believe that was his intent, but he certainly struggled on execution. ie, didn't get it done. that is what i'm inferring by growing pains. who knows, maybe Idzik himself would like to have done some things differently seeing how it panned out.

look at last year. He brought in some vets, at low cost, who could contribute in roles right away.
Pace, Colon, Barnes, Landry, and Winslow to name a few. This year we had more scratch to do the same, with some higher quality guys, even if they'd be short term. Where are those guys? FA is not over, but the quality of options has really dropped off.
I think the Giants had one of the best FA periods of any team, and they didn't break the future bank, or make decisions which would affect how they draft. That is what i was looking for..
