Some thoughts: 1) Very please with Villanova's draw. They have no excuses as they are better than any team they are matched against to get to the Sweet 16 2) ROFL at all the Wichita State apologists crying that their darlings actually have to face some teams with a winning record in the NCAA Tournament 3) I feel sorry for any team that needs to face Louisville prior to the Sweet 16
The three things the committee did that I dislike the most: 1)Making Louisville a 4. They tied with Cincinnati for the regular season title, and then not only won the tournament, but did it convincingly. They beat Rutgers by 61, Houston by 29, and UConn by 10. A 4 seed is ludicrous. Underseeding them that badly screws up the balancing of the regions. 2)Giving UMass a 6. A number of teams with better seasons were seeded below UMass. 3)Letting NC State in at all.
It is asinine to give UL a 4, not fair to Wichita State. I thought UL was in the running for a 1 and at worst would get a 2 but a 4? insane. UL got a 4 and so did UCLA- seriously.
yes, that was the reasonable way of viewing it. I was driving today and heard some of the college basketball analysts on and they said the same. At worst a 2 for Louisville, possibly a 1. The committee never gives a straight answer to anything (the interviews with the chairman are laughable), but someone should be held accountable for this. Louisville got screwed with tougher first and second round opponents and Wichita State could have to face Kentucky and then Louisville in the second and third rounds as a #1 seed. I think if you asked Gregg Marshall, he'd tell you he'd rather have a 2 or a 3 than have a 1 and get stuck with that draw. The whole reason you want a 1 is for the relatively easy first three games. Odds to win the tournament: NCAA Men's Basketball National Champion 2013/14 Thu 3/20 12:00PM National Champion - Cowboys Stadium - Arlington, TX - April 7, 2014 Florida +525 Louisville +575 Arizona +650 Michigan State +650 two four seeds among the top four favorites.
they'd only be a small favorite over Kentucky and they would be a 5+ point underdog to Louisville. That's why their odds are longer. Assuming they do play Kentucky and Louisville, the odds of them making the Elite Eight would be roughly 5/1. And they'd still have to win three more games!
Hey Junc: If Billy Donovan wins it all this year, I am ready to upgrade him to the "Elite" class of current coaches with Roy, K, Izzo, Pitino, Boeheim, & Self. Do you agree?
I kind of think he is there already. I would remove Boeheim and Self though. they are not at that level w/ so few final fours.
That's ludicrous but coming from a guy that hates Mid Majors it's not surprising. It's so blatently obvious what the committee did here to the point that dopes like Digger Phelps where even stating it. Do you honestly believe that Kentucky is an 8 and Louisville is a 4? That's a joke , I'm not saying they should have been given the red carpet to the FF but to deny that the committe went out of their way to ensure that the likelihood of them returning is so small is just ignoring reality. I'm hoping they do make it back just so Greg Marshall can give the middle finger to all the haters.
All I am saying is that EVEN One seeds eventually have to play good quality teams in the tournament. While I agree with Louisville being a high rated 4, Wichita would not face them until the Sweet 16, so Manhattan has much more reason to gripe than Wichita on that one. The most recent AP Poll has Kentucky among the "Votes for Others" which incidentally includes Gonzaga (8-Seed) and Memphis (8-Seed), so I really do not see the issue with Kentucky's seeding, except for the fact that they had the AUDACITY to place them in the same bracket as everyone's darling Wichita State. So what exactly is the problem?
Kentucky is better than the other 8 seeds. Definitely the most dangerous. Probably deserving of a higher seed. Would you rather play Kentucky or Colorado? Would you rather play Louisville or San Diego State?
if they lose to UK? yes but I don't even think UK will make it to face Wichita State. If Wichita State loses to UL in the Sweet 16 it was still a great year.
If Wichita State loses to Louisville, that's not at all a failure. Louisville is a top 4 team in the country. You could argue they're playing better than anyone right now. Wichita State would be a clear underdog against them (probably 5-6 points). If that did happen, it would be silly to look at it like "they were a #1 and didn't make the Elite Eight."
I already conceded the Louisville point, but like I said, Manhattan should be complaining right now, not Wichita State. Regarding Kentucky, Colorado is overrated, but I would absolutely put Kentucky on equal par with the other two 8-Seeds (Gonzaga and Memphis). I have no issue with Kentucky as an 8 Seed.
