I agree with that to some degree. I think he's a notch below the upper echelon of CBs. But clearly you don't subscribe to my theory of today's NFL. I'm not saying the Jets have even one of these pieces in place yet, but to make winning a little easier you need 1) a good QB, 2) a pass rush to get to the QB, and 3) an OL to protect the QB. I consider the rest of the team as fill-ins. If I'm spending big bucks anywhere, that's where I focus personally.

Without sounding like a "homer", the league is made up of a strong majority of 3rd-late round picks.

    Some of this years FAs:

    Verner - 4th round
    Munnerlyn - 7th round
    Jared Allen - 4th round
    Finley - 3rd round
    Sanders - 3rd round
    Decker - 3rd round
    Edelman -7th round
    Melton - 4th round
    Johnson - 3rd round
    Bennett - UDFA
    Jones - 3rd round
    Steve Smith - 3rd round

Obviously there are a ton more of them. If there is anything to be upset about, be pissed that we lost a high 3rd.

Honestly, this organization has made FA/trade splashes in the past, and it's never led them to the promised land. Shit, they even had a draft a few years ago where they only had like 4 picks, and look where they ended up the past couple years. I'll be a "homer" and give it time to see if this method works out. By definition of insanity, it's time to try something different.

So if the Rotoworld rankings are considered accurate, with Browner being a bit of an outlier, we bring bak Cro for about 1 yr, $3.5mil, maybe 2yr, $6mil. He serves as a stop gap that knows the system, and we're no worse than we were last year. Factoring in the expected growth of Millner, SoA & Coples, etc. and the defense is expected to be somewhat better than last year. If BPA in the draft is a CB, we select him. If not, we're in the market for a CB again next offseason.

The same could be said on the offensive side of the ball. We have improved a bit. On both sides of the ball, we've made incremental cost savvy improvements. In the end, we'll only be as successful as Geno, the OL, & Millner allow us to be. Even with Revis/DRC, Nicks & Byrd, this team would still not be a SB favorite this year. Rex & fans want to add talent at all costs for a better shot in 2014. Idzik has a 2-3 year plan, and can't be fairly graded until 2015 & 2016 play out.

Problem the Jets have is they never seem to be the team drafting these 3rd round or later guys that come in and truly become a key component. How many times in the last few years have we seen stories about some no name becoming a starter in week 3 or lighting teams up out of no where after not being drafted. Seems like the jets are round 1 and done -- they need to get more than value picks after the first round and get some real ball players in.

I find it hilarious how all you people are believing these "unnamed sources". All these articles are bullshit until you can put a name on them.

You do realize that any sports writer can write an article and claim his knowledge from an unnamed source? Lol

Agreed, and having 12 picks makes it a lot easier to hit the target than 4.

BTW- Harrison was a UDFA, we did pretty well there!

I think the writing is on the wall and clear. WE ARE DRAFTING A CB HIGH. Like it or not.

My bet is Bradley Roby. As long as it isnt with our 1st! He may have to trade up with our 2nd + 4th to get him though.

A CB will be high but a DB can not be 1st. 1st has to be a WR or TE.

True, but Rex has always done it that way. If he's as great a defensive coach as we all think, he can make it work.

If the Jets believe in their young DBs at all, maybe a 1 year deal with Champ would help. He played well when healthy last year, and would be a great mentor to Milliner etal.

A little brighter outlook... we have 7 picks in the first 175 I say if we hit 4 out of the 7 which is very likely considering Idzik is a "draft guy" heck even 3 look at it this way we plug a hole at WR DB and G or WR/TE/DB you get the point.

Our roster will look a lot better come opening day... barring any injuries

I thought Idzik's background was as a cap guy, not a scouting guy.

He is a cap guy but he worked with the scouting department in Seattle for a while.

    Demario Davis - 3rd round
    Jeremy Kerley - 5th round
    Snacks - Undrafted

To name a few...and Snacks could, arguably, start on any team in the NFL...

He was a scout until the Introduction of the salary cap. Than he took over the cap responsibility because he has a math degree from Dartmouth. The "cap guy" the thing is bullshit and annoying. Read his bio and you see he is a football guy.
