I think Cimini speaks to a lot of what many Jets fans are feeling. I think the comparison of Decker to Brian Hartline was harsh, but I think the point that Idzik's indecisiveness is making it hard for Rex going forward.
so of the top 10 - 4 were resigned by there existing teams so were never available so that leaves 5 (with Cro still available) - Revis was never in play nor would Talib have been so that basically left a couple of CBs on the market that may have helped the Jets and for which we were in competition with other teams. its not Madden and we dont get to pick and choose who comes - we get the top tier WR free agent - you cant get everything you want out of free agency.
The FO Homers here talk about those 12 picks as if they will be the salvation of the off season. Most of them are later round picks, and you will not likely see starters coming from them. In short the Jets will not produce enough starters to fill the holes from the draft. Meanwhile the GM is sitting on a ton of cap money. Some of the FO Homers here say we should not be concerned about that since the FO can, and effectively will, use that money next year. If that is all true, and the Jets start Smith without brining in any competition for him, that sounds like all the makings of a down year to me. And GTFO with your rose colored glasses pom pom waving whistle past the graveyard homerism.
I really think Mark will be back this season, I don't think Rex has lost all confidence in him and he may come cheap enough to satisfy Idzik.
I dont understand the FO homers here or on twitter for that matter. We are now going completely oppositte of Tanenbaum. Free agency can be done smartly, money can be spent wisely. 12 draft picks arent going to solve all needs.
It's not being a FO homer. It's being frugal with our money and not being Dan Snyder. With the current team, no, we probably won't really compete. But we could be in the mix, just like last year. No sense in throwing a bunch of money at players you only kind of want. That's reactionary and foolish. For those saying we got worse, I don't get it. What did we lose? Cromartie was awful last year. Holmes too. Giacomini = Howard. Not saying we have a better replacement for Cromartie (we do for Holmes), but it's difficult to get worse, and Milliner was showing potential down the stretch. Our young players have another year of experience. We should be better than last year in theory.
Nobody thinks Giacomini=Howard except a few people on this site, nobody Why do you think the Jets tried so hard to re-sign him? They didn't think so. Cromartie had a bad year but he is still better than any of the other CBs we have.
See that is exactly my point. How does spending on free agency mean that the Jets are going to be like Daniel Snyder? MONEY CAN BE SPENT WISELY! Do you see how many teams spend money on free agency. There are plenty of them who spend on role players and good starters and still are good. I am not asking them to pay for players past their prime or overrated players. But how would signing a few depth players be an awful idea. If the signings happen later ill take back what I said. I am not calling Idzik incompetent, I am just genuinely curious what the hell that they are doing.
The problem with that thinking is, other teams are getting more better. Just having a better team than last years doesn't equal winning more games. A few of we got lucky to win.
I just love how you constantly label people, it's seriously immature. But don't let me stop you. Jets should find 5 starters this up-coming draft (they found 4 last draft). Sounds like a better idea then going out and signing every FA you are interested in.
Tell me which signing would have been wise for the Jets where they could have matched or exceeded the offers made? Most Jets fans think Hakeem Nicks was a good fit here because he went to Indy on such a cheap, one year deal. Great. A one year deal on a player who's been reported to have mailed it in last year to make sure he was healthy for this year. Sounds like a winner. Most Jets fans think DRC would have been a good fit. Myself included. Unless the rumors about him contemplating retirement were true. Sounds like a winner. I'm not suggesting we need to go back to the ways of Mangini and picking quality nice guys off the street. But those two are examples of the players I think would not make good fits in the ultimate team sport.
Vontae Davis Brandon Browner Walter Thurmond Emmanuel Sanders Captain Munnerlyn DRC are all players that could have helped the Jets and didn't break the bank. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Funny. Most "lists" showed Giacomini ranked higher. Who cares what a list says. Howard was okay last year. Giacomini was okay last year. If we're losing anything, it sure isn't much. And for a ground and pound team, I can damn well guarantee you Giacomini is a better fit if that's what we want to do. A year ago, people were complaining about Austin Howard starting. Now he's our savior. Children on this board, I swear.
If the label fits, it is appropriate to use it. And I never said the Jets should go out and sign every FA or anything like it. I think it is immature to put words in other's mouths in order to make some bs point.
Davis didn't break the bank???? I want to go to your bank. Browner is suspended. Next. I'll admit Thurmond intrigued me. Sanders sounds like his agent was railroading everyone. I like Sanders as a player, but sounds like it wasn't realistic to get him to agree to a fair contract and stick to it. Munnerlyn is a good player, and I think a poor fit. DRC I've been over.
Davis is also a stud CB at a young age. Munnerlyn I agree on mostly, but he could have been useful. Thurmond could have been signed to a decent deal. Browner is better than the alternative. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
If other teams are getting better, then some teams must be getting worse that these players are leaving, no? There's a finite amount of talent in the NFL. And those teams (generally speaking) have to pony up to improve their teams like that. I don't think the Jets are ready to compete, so I'd rather not set the franchise back by signing long-term contracts on players we're not very sure about. Just my opinion.
