I don't care what any of the Idzik fans say, he 100% screwed up the CB position and now we're not looking so hot. Best case scenario at this point is he brings back an injured, aging Cromartie and we have issues at the position much like last year. Worst case scenario is he burns another high draft pick on the CB position, wasting an asset that we could have used to draft in one of our other many areas of need.

I get that he's patient and "has a plan" and all that crap, that's great. I'm not all about going all-in to win it every year, I like the idea of building through the draft. But we had two first round picks last year and we still only managed to get three starters on the squad. Maybe some of the later round guys step it up this year, we'll have to wait and see but people are acting like we're going to draft guys in the 6th round that will walk onto the team and be difference makers. That won't happen.

We can't draft literally every single player on the team and use that as the only method to bring in players. No team does that. Ever. I don't see it as such a horrible thing to address an area of need through free agency, locking up a guy for years to come. It stabilizes the position and limits your need to burn draft picks on guys in the future. Not to mention the cap goes up every year so even if you're paying $9mil now it won't be that bad in two or three years. It's not even bad this year as we have so much space so there is really no downside whatsoever.

A team that misses the playoffs by one game is not rebuilding, a 2-14 team is. A team that goes 8-8 is looking for the few missing pieces that will get them to the playoffs the following year.

Not really. We overachieved and won 8 games. It doesn't mean we should overestimate our talent and go balls in " to win now". You do know there is gonna be football beyond 2014 right? Why are so many posters all about winning this year? We overachieved but we are still rebuilding and the way we're gonna build this team will be mostly through the draft.

There is no such thing as rebuilding in the NFL. The league is setup for most teams to be around .500 then it is about decisions on where you spend the money. All this talk about holes every team has holes the cap does not allow you to not have holes. You either pay your QB like Baltimore and New England and Denver or you build your defense SF and Seattle. Pick your poison you need a great defense and average Offense or great offense and average defense. Average on both sides of the ball or slightly better than average on one side of the ball and shitty on the other you get 8-8.

The Jets need to get their offense to average and their defense great to make a run. That is why not signing a corner really hurts.

I think if you ask most Jets fans, I think they are a tired of letting "the process work out"
    They want progress.
    They want to win now!!!
Life is way too short to wait.

To answer your question - Idzik "survives". This is Idzik's plan. This is the plan Idzik sold Woody on when they interviewed last winter. Based on the plan and interview, Woody hired Idzik. Why would Woody suddenly fire the guy for not deviating from the plan he put forth when hired? Woody signed off on whatever vision Idzik had.

Nonsense, it's his job to try and improve every year. Build for the future? What future? In a couple of years Mangold will be done and Brick will be done and every RB on the team will be long gone, then what? We start building for the future then too?

This GM is a disaster. He is a passive robot. We paly Den, GB, Chi, and NE this year. This secondary will give up 500 yards a game. Rex is being sabotaged yet again.

I think some of our guys are putting the cart before the horse, I could understand the negativity if the jets needed one or two good veterans to put us over the top and make the SB.

That is not the case with this team, they are still 4 to 5 players away from being a consistent playoff team.

The jets are still in the process of putting the foundation of this team in place.

except both SF and Seattle have QBs capable of performing to a fairly high level. if you dont have that then it really doesnt matter what your defense looks like. until we know what we have with Geno (and I am more of a believer now than I was before) then we dont know what we have or where we should be investing and whether we should be committing now or keeping our powder dry.

Actually, out of last year's draft, Dee, Sheldon, Geno, Winters, Ivory (which our fourth rounder was traded for) and Bohanon will likely start for us this year.

That's getting a starter out of our first 5 picks, and 6 starters overall. Also keep in mind this is only the draft class' second year.

That's really impressive, anyway you slice it.

This secondary gives up big yardage because Rex and his propensity to blitz all the time, if he played a little more 2 deep safety help his corners would not have to be exposed so much.

I'm not anti blitz, but some times you have to force the opposing QB to make all of his reads as opposed to going immediately to the hot route.

And by the way, we play NE 2 times a year, every year.

I'm not worried about Chicago, GB, or Denver.

They will feel the force of the pass rush, by Coples, Wilkerson, snacks, and Richardson, or did you forget already what the Seattle pass rush did to manning?

I understand that. But you guys knew that we were in the midst of a rebuild. I don't understand what you expected. Rebuilding is bringing in talent through the draft, which Idzik wants to do considering that he's stockpiled draft picks. Rebuilding is developing young talent, rebuilding is bringing low risk high reward guys, cheap vets and maybe signing a top free agent here and there.

The expectations has been pretty low for the last year, Idzik was brought in to rebuild the program and that rebuild is still in progress. So you want him to deviate from his plan just to please the fans?

No doubt he had a good draft last year. The jury is still out on Milliner and Geno (both improved over the last 4 games but we will see how they do this year) but the rest seem really solid.

It's the offseason, the draft is a month and a half away. We added a RT that's similar in talent to Howard and we brought in a solid WR in Decker (not a fan of this signing) to go along with Kerley and Nelson and we resigned the ever improving Jeff Cumberland. Like I said we still have the draft. And in this rebuilding period we need to see what we have in the young guys. I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell and Aboushi are competing for the RG spot. I wouldn't be surprised if they went into camp with the young guys at corner and having them battle it out. This is what rebuilding looks like. It damn sure ain't pretty but it serves it's purpose. It allows guys to get an opportunity to show what they can do and it gives them a chance to further develop. So when we're ready to contend these guys are already seasoned. This process allowed us to see Antonio Allen get a shot and he's now a promising young safety.

  19. Great post.i can understand the ol concerns cause weve seen so little from campbell & aboushi but the cb panic is way overblown. This is a young but competent group.Lets see what they can do behind this dl

Just remember, there are a lot of agendas in play and the anonymity afforded by the internet allows them to be fully realized with minimal risk.
