I honestly think most of this hate is coming from Revis going to the Patriots. The Jets fans expect the Jets to make a counter big-splash move. The problem is: IT'S NOT OUT THERE. Verner or Davis or Rodgers-Cromartie are not near as good as Revis and are not that much better than Cromartie. Cro is the smart money right now. Hopefully the Jets re-sign him.
The bucs made an awful deal and Landry wasn't good. All idzick does is say no, the bucs were dumb enough to keep badgering him until he actually said yes.
You get the feeling that Idzik thinks he is smartest person in the room and that its his way or the highway. He won't last very long in the biggest media market in the world that way
Take a look at what we know for facts(Unfortunately we have to depend on the NY media for all of this) -Jets showed interest in: Whitner(No offer made) Ward(No offer made) Davis(Badly outbid) Verner(No serious offers made)Jones(No offers made)Ford(No offers made) Clark(No offers made) -Jets had full visits w/:Bret Giacomino- Signed/Eric Decker-Signed/DRC Signed elsewhere Seems to me the jets have been plenty active in trying to find specific talent levels that also have manageable cap figures. Truly only 2 guys got away...1 we were outbid..and the other we were out recruited. These things happen. That's part of FA. But we've signed guys, We've had people in for visits..the lines of communication have been open w/ most legit free agents. Yes we'd like to see a few more guys signed..but what are you panicking about? Where does this level of incompetence that you fear stem from? Everything appears to be calculated & prudent.Conservative?Yes. Anti-Tannenbaum.Yes. But why the panic??
If they plan on winning more than 3 games next year: Idzik has put the team in a position where they have no choice but to try to land a starting CB in the draft, most likely @18. They've obviously moved on from Cro. If its gonna have to be a CB at that spot, I want Justin Gilbert. I want the playmaker who is also a dynamic kick returner.
No. YOU get that feeling. My feeling is that we've got about five months to see who's going to be on the field for the season and my powers of prognostication obviously are not attuned to the level needed to decide now if there are concerns and if they are legitimate.
I think you're onto something. That said I still see Chris Johnson's situation in Tennessee boiling over. CJ would fitin real nice in our offense splitting carries w/ Ivory/Powell & catching balls out of the backfield. We have the cap space & draft ammo to make it happen.
I just have to say that this post makes no sense at all. The Jets went 8-8 last year with rookie toast at one CB position and a hobbled vet having one of his worst years at the other position. It almost can't get worse than last year unless you believe Dee Milliner can't handle CB and that the other Jets CB's are collectively going to be worse than Cro was last year, which seems unlikely.
who did you want us to sign? we signed the best WR in FA and as someone that seriously follows the draft this is the deepest WR class in YEARS. we upgraded RT for a cheaper deal, what's wrong with that? we didn't sign jairus byrd, the most expensive safety who was overpaid. so what? we didn't sign alterraun verner, a CB who only played zone and rarely pressed his assignment. ok good move we didn't sign revis, a player who was never going to come here. stop it with that bullshit the whole thing with emmanuel sanders was a cluster fuck. no teams knew what was going on as sanders agent (who was suspended before) used tactics that aren't allowed and lied the only player we might of dropped the ball on was DRC and he was OVERPAID. i feel like people forget that we have the 9th overall pick CB entering his 2nd year after playing extremely well for the final quarter of the season. CBs make huge leaps their 2nd season i also think people don't realize that we have to resign the 2nd best DE in football soon, a rising star in sheldon richardson eventually, coples, and if geno even resembles a capable QB he will get a large deal we are building this team through the draft and aren't going to spend cap space for the hell of it. stop complaining, this football has improved
There are handfuls of highly capable starter level CBs in this draft that will be open for selection well into the early 4th round. We'd be able to address corner w/ a pick outside of round 1
Chris Johnson is a 29 year old RB 3 years removed from his last great season. The reason the Titans are thinking about moving on is the year early vs year late thing. It's not specifically the down year last year it's the 3 year trend since his last workhorse year in 2010 which followed his great 2009 season. If he was out there on the market and looking for a 2 year deal that wasn't too expensive he'd definitely be worth looking at. He won't be though. He's going to be looking for one last huge payday and somebody is going to jump to give it to him despite the fact that he will be 30 in year two of the deal.
Just because we have money for FAs doesn't mean it should be spent on FAs. Remember that we have talent that needs to be resigned (I know, it doesn't feel like we have much but we have some key peeps). If we cannot find upgrades this year then we have the option to front load the contracts. This'll make players like MoWilk very happy and we can move up huge chunks of his future cap space to this year. It will make competing more difficult for a year, granted. But the Jets will have star players signed, for years, AND will have room moving forward. This doesn't mean I don't want us to sign anyone, but I want to sign the RIGHT peeps for the RIGHT price. And if it isn't the right person or the right deal then walk away and put the money elsewhere so we can take advantage of good deals in the future.
If you're around for the next 10 years like I've been around for the last 10 years, you will have read it all. Trust me..... I remember when sunshiners were clamoring over Bradway trading up for Robertson, signing JMac and a slew of other rejects. And who can forget drafting Ted Nugent in the 2nd round. OMG, you didn't hear. According to them, we were going to the Super Bowl. How Brooks Bollinger should start......... hahahaha!!!!!!! Tanny, was the greatest thing since sliced bread...... BACK THEN ANYWAYS!! They didn't care when he was signing free agents left and right and trading away drafts picks like baseball cards. Do you want me to get into Brett Farve? But they want to tell you that NOW its okay not to plug some holes in the team through free agency. Izdik has a plan and of course you should believe it because apparently that the consensus around here.
Fair question. The problem is that, from a strategy standpoint, doing great things is actually not always about DOING something. Sometimes it is knowing when NOT to do something. Gen Washington was at his best when he resisted temptations to do more than he could. This capability is often overlooked, but it applies to football just as well. Feeling like you must DO something makes GMs reach, panic, overestimate the reward in a risk situation, etc. So it may well be that Idzik felt the money could be better used in another way or that the players on the market weren't the right call. Will he be right? I dunno but history says FA splashes are rarely panaceas. More importantly, Idzik has already shown that he isn't someone who throws away draft picks like they're disposable and moves up without good cause. Again, he is showing what NOT to do. Does this mean he is brilliant? I dunno, but it does show that he isn't prone to the mistakes of the previous admin. Btw, if I were to guess, I am thinking Idzik is planning on using our bushel of picks to bring in a horde of players to see who will stick. I think he will sign our existing quality talent to extensions of move up the cap hits to save money in the future. Meanwhile, we will still be able to make a few more modest signings this year AND be able to look at the FA market next year as well. I prefer being able to get someone each year instead of going on a one year binge and hoping in works out.
Legitimate Concerns? Lol. what is this pussyfoot bullshit. I'll read it when you grow some balls and make the Fire Idzick thread. I'm not concerned at all BTW. I'll be concerned if our draft blows, not because we aren't throwing money at overrated free agent cornerbacks.
But wait now, all those picks/trades/signings worked out great! There wasn't a dud among them. He loaded us up with scads of talented players and turned the Jets into the greatest dynasty in football history!* *- this is an expurgated version of a football dream I once had. Since this is a family site I left out all of the erotic bits involving goalposts, ankle tape, and cheerleaders.
Ok let me start with this. Washington lost 7/9 battles. Was a myth he was great general. Lol to be serious I get what your saying. My fear is not that idzick is intentionally doing nothing, I don't think he knows how to close a deal. There is always some wiggle room. Ok so we draft a ton of players and hope they work out, I get that. In the meantime you still need to have some established quality players. to me it seems as if all idzick wants to do is build a war chest and never use it. A bazooka only works if you fire it. I'm confused by what he's doing its not totally sensible. His inexperience is showing. He's not known as the great negotiator, he's spoken of as the guy that doesn't budge. Not a great reputation o have. Players around the league supposedly love rex. But we can't sign anyone? Something out of balance.
Idzik is shrewd GM. I firmly believe that he knows what he is doing. Also personally, I am glad that we didn't sign DRC. I rather want AC. I really believe he wants to be here. I hope Idzik signs him.
