Jets will probably sign a veteran corner...I'm hoping for Greer despite his injury. And then it will be whoever plays the best in training camp. Milliner, Walls, Wilson, Patrick, Ras-I-Dowling, Lankster. They will just duke it out and whoever plays the best gets to start. Maybe Idzik will finally address our issues covering the middle of he field and take a rangy linebacker that will step in when we cut Harris, and a safety who can center field when we go to Cover 1. The d-line is not a concern anymore and is literally going to get better, which is scary considering how young everyone is.
Is it me or does it seem like in the last few months this board has just become overrun with the most negative and often ridiculous posters imaginable - it seems like you get more sense out of the comments section on PFT than on this board just recently.
We might as well just close this thread and all head over to the Draft Forum, so we can really talk about this team's future. Because it does not lie in free agency.
for 2 weeks now i have been pumped about.. verner…didn't happen vontae davis.. didn't happen drc…didn't happen
yeah thats the reality he was prepared for, an all out competition between many players needing to prove themselves at CB. still a lot to talk about despite not getting in on the CB's. RB news, QB news, news on Colon, FA isn't done for the Jets.
It's funny, because this is, by far, the most likely reason. Like, it's not even close. However, it doesn't even show up as an option for some fans here.
because we all know that FA is how you put together a successful long term team.... also people always act like we are the only team that is trying to sign players and improve - there are 31 other teams out there and most of them have very similar needs to the Jets - we don't get to just pick and choose who signs with us and who doesn't.
and thats the problem, we put all our hopes in dreams into something that was never guaranteed or necessarily as desired from the the powers that be as it was to us. we blew our load of expectations way to early. We heard rumors, got invested and now we're up in arms about something we perhaps didn't need to be.
idzic isn't committing to any f.a. for more than 2 years and isn't giving out enough money for anyone to come in and think they are getting paid too much to sit the bench. so at the end of the day you have a bunch of players eyeing that next big contact and busting their asses trying to get paid. looking for that big score? don't come to NYJ want to prove your worth a big contract? come on in, we will let you show it here. and if your worth it we will have plenty of space to reward you, just ask calvin pace
I'm all about building through the draft but the problem with this organization is that we have AWFUL talent evaluators...we draft more busts than we find diamonds in the rough...I understand Idziks approach throughout this free agency period and his patience. The Tannenbaum period resulted in Rex telling him who he wants and Tammy overpaying them for no reason. However I will say idzik BLEW signing a CB after we released Cro...what was already a weakness last year, our secondary got worse...the part that is scary is that New England got so much better...granted they have a franchise qb and have other positions that take priority but we have a young qb who I think is not a franchise guy but having a very very shaky o line and the signing of only Eric decker does not sit comfortable with me. Idzik has blown an opportunity to get proven guys on both sides of the ball in FA and has decided to put all his cards in the draft essentially needing to fill the many holes we have...WR, RG, TE, SS, but most importantly CB...I understand we have at least 8 picks in this draft but that would mean of the 8, 5 would need to be impact players and I just don't trust the talent evaluators
If you think you're gonna get the big time numbers he put up last season you might be let down... he was just avg before Manning came along and honestly I expect him to be a 6/700 yard maybe 5/7 TD type of number 2
....and they struck gold by drafting a tier one QB in the 3rd round. sure, let's just wait for that to happen.
The one thing about Asante Samuel is that he's always been around the ball. He had 5 picks for the Falcons in 2012, He was due only in the 3's this season before cut by Atlanta. Can he cover at all anymore. Could be a decent signing as a spot starter working with Walls. Also about Ed Reed. He did make some plays last year and if he accepts a role as a nickel guy he carries unbelievable respect among players in the league.
yeah, I gotta say i actually like that idea, I think we got something like that out of Ivory last year, may get it out of Decker or even MJD if we grab him. Walls is in on that now too. the rewarding prices needs to come along though, come mid spring we should be in talks to re-up most of our proven talent, Wilkerson and Kerley especially.
He know the range a player is expecting when they come to visit. Why even have them come in? To appease the fab base?
