According to overthecap.com they have less than $2 million left for 2014. That's before they pay a single rookie contract. http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Saints&Year=2014 Unless they're planning on restructuring or cutting someone I don't see how they bring in Rice as well.
Jacoby Ford had 13 catches for 99 yards last year. The flashes he showed as a return man were during his rookie season. He was used very little the last 2 years as a return guy. No doubt we need weapons but I'm not sure he's an upgrade over anyone. Sidney Rice was a monster with Brett Favre but take a look at his stats since then. He played 6,9,16, and 8 games. He had 2 years of 200 yards, 1 with 400, and 1 with 700. He may only be 27 years old but he has the body of a 38 year old. He would probably be best going back to Seattle on a cheap 1 year deal.
I'd be cool with bringing in Rice as well. Still think we should look at CB in FA and draft a WR and not the other way around...
They are also looking to get Zach Strief - honestly, I don't know how they have the funds. Brees will need to restructure his contract to start off. Mickey Loomis is one slick GM.
how do you guys feel about Knowshon Moreno? ran solid last year. good blocker and pass catching back. was a first round pick not too long ago, I think he's got more in the tank than MJD and would compliment Ivory better.
I think it's that and also the fact that they've taken so much hate from Jets fans over the years that they probably just hate the fan base by this point and want the team to fail so we're all unhappy.
Our WR coach was ford old coach. May mean nothing but we could use a good fast return man Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
how's it shaking up to be an off year? we're less than a week into FA. draft is still over a month away, a draft where we have like 12 picks. GTFO of here with this down year bullshit, the season hasn't even started.
I think the Jets could do a WHOLE lot worse than their first 4 picks going the way you said. In fact, I'd be very happy with that. Of course I'd be disappointed not to get at least one of Lee, Cooks, Beckham, Evans of Adams, but that may not happen anyway. I don't know much about Dozier, but taking an OG in the 4th round would be a solid move. I like Attaochu a LOT. If the Jets are going to draft a CB, I'd rather it be Gilbert even if it means passing on an OT, TE or WR in round 1. Unless Rex is going to change or is forced to change his defensive strategy and approach, I'd rather see a CB with honest-to-God ball skills than see another CB who excels at press and man coverage but who has a hard time coming up with TOs. Any elite D needs to create TOs. That has been a huge failing of Rex's Ds. Gilbert could also return KOs his rookie season or perhaps 1st 2 seasons and maybe give the Jets an extra win or two with his legs. I'd also be happy with Fiedorowicz at TE. He's a huge target, good blocker and has soft hands. He'd be a great Red Zone target for Geno and a great target on 3rd downs.
I understand where you're coming from, and you have some good points. I hope they don't draft a CB at all, but if they do, I hope it's Gilbert. He's a playmaker, and the Jets don't really have any playmakers in their secondary or LB corps. He could be a huge addition to this team. That's why I wouldn't be that upset if the Jets draft him. I'd rather Rex alter his approach to D away from being so CB reliant and dependent and value the OLB and S positions more, but I doubt he will do that. With that being the case, Gilbert might be the best solution. Now if they take Roby, I'll be royally pissed, and only slightly less so if they take one of the other CBs in the 1st round.
He's the same guy that brought in Chaz Schilens, most people think he's one of the worst receiver coaches in the league. He really hasn't developed anyone.
True he has not done anything whatsoever. At least Chaz did more than Hill. Still close to nothing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
"I'd rather it be Gilbert even if it means passing on an OT, TE, or WR in round 1".............NC man i c what ur saying and this appears to be the evolving dilemma for the jets heading into the draft. unfortunately that would be 3 first round corners in 5 years. Show me a top 5 defense with that draft record. i kind of expected the jets to sign a blank check for one of the corners, sans revis, and not stay so close to the vest. The 3 positions u refer to are in sore need of players despite the signing of decker and the dude from seattle. oh well maybe we get lucky with both cromarties. its sure gonna make for a crazy draft and insanity around here those few days.
rice is living off of that 2009 season...hes so overated..we already bit the bullet on a one year wonder with braylen edwards
I hear ya. If Rex is the Defensive genius so many here want to proclaim him, there's absolutely NO reason why he shouldn't be able to build an elite D without having to use all those 1st round picks, especially at CB. That's why, first and foremost, I hope the Jets don't sign a FA CB and aren't able to draft one. Idzik won't reach, and I hope the ones that Rex covets are snapped up so that Idzik is forced to draft other positions. The problem is, I just don't see that happening. A zebra can't change its stripes, and I don't think Rex is smart enough to be able to step back and see that he shouldn't have to spend yet another 1st round pick on a CB to make his D work. I don't think he's willing or able to alter his approach/philosophy. I mean the guy had Terrell Suggs with the Ravens. He saw firsthand what a great pass-rushing OLB can do, and yet hasn't seemed to want one. He also had a great FS in Reed, yet doesn't seem to value the FS position, either. I hope I'm wrong. I hope he'll change his approach and the Jets will either go with the CBs they have, sign a lower tier FA CB, or draft a CB in the 4th round or lower. I just don't see that happening, however. I think Idzik may be a little over-zealous with his frugality. I'm not saying that they should have beaten Indy's offer for Davis. I'm not even saying that Verner was the answer, but he either needs to sign DRC or re-sign Cro if Cro is healthy. Even if Cro is healthy and they re-sign him, they're still probably gonna need another CB within a year or two. The Jets do have critical needs at other positions (WR - in addition to Decker, TE, FS, OG, OLB, depth at OT and C). The last thing they need to do is to draft another CB in round 1. The fanbase would have every right to go nuts, and I think the other GMs and HCs in the NFL will think Rex and Idzik are nuts. The media will have a field day and the team will be a circus again. I think there's a good chance they might, however, if they don't sign DRC. If they do, I'd rather it be Gilbert than Dennard, Fuller, Verrett, Roby or whomever. If the Jets do draft another CB in round 1, this place will be 100x worse than it was the first 2 days of FA. I doubt I'll even log into the site for a few days if that happens. LOL
