Pretty sure we all love Cromartie. What he did in 2012 after we tried ditching him for Namdi and then after (Captain Douche's) injury was just unreal. He was an awesome jet and great team player. But the truth is, he was horrible last year and he knows it better than anyone which he's stated numerous times.
Because when he is healthy he is the better player of course. I think he will be healthy this year. Oh, and he knows the defense cold which is a huge advantage for us. One more thing, we will have a hell of a lot more cap space next year then we do now with a higher cap and no dead money. Figure 67M at least.
Oh enough of this BS of liking DRC at just a certain price. Just get the guy, the secondary is terrible and they need a player of this caliber.
This is a losing mentality. You cant just play a player whatever they ask for. That's not how Super Bowl winning teams are built; there's a reason every team has the same maximum cap number. Football is a game of numbers, and overpaying one position means you will be underpaying another position. I would love to get DRC, but only at the right price.
Well him being the better player is highly questionable i think. Cro had his best year in 2012 and DRC easily played at that level last season is 3 years younger and does not come with the injury concerns that Cro does. Im a huge fan of Cro, shit ii was banned for 6 weeks for sticking up for him when that stupid cut cro thread went up but DRC is the better overall corner even if Cro is healthy right now.
It's about need. This secondary currently means losing team. If they have to over pay a little, so be it.
Any price 10 mill or under is the right price right now. We have more cap then we can spend for two season and there is no reason to let it go to waste when we have a huge need that can be filled. 3 year 10 mill per with 10-15 garunteed and by year 3 he is easily able to part ways with
I agree with you here. I would pay him $9.5 because that's how much I think he's worth. However, saying "we have more cap than we can spend" is not necessarily true. If I were Idzik I would be giving Wilkerson a long-term deal now when we have the cap space for it....if we're not careful, Wilk will slip away, especially if we have a bunch of back-loaded contracts that prevent us from giving him his due. Also, I'd love to pay him before Watt skyrockets the price.
Just because we have cap room doesn't mean we need to spend it all. We need a corner, we don't need to overpay for a corner. We still have a bunch of guys to sign on small cheap deals and rookies to sign. After that we have to look ahead at our own guys. Wilkerson, Kerley, Snacks all will be getting new deals next year. If we were to miss out on DRC and we get Cro or another veteran for a 1 year deal think about Haden next offseason.. I guess I'm looking at the glass half full not half empty but I like where we are right now.
I think Wilks deal will get done once the season starts this way he is locked up early. I also think he will get a front loaded deal to start in 2015 when we will have close to 70 mill in cap space. Idzik seems to be following the cookie cutter model for a true franchise. We will have a better clue once we get to the mid way point of the season. Everything before that is guessing. Just seems right though.
Yes i watched several corners fail in Phi. DRC failed there for the same reason Namdi failed there. They took Man cov corners and tried to force them to be cover 2/zone heavy defense. Amazing how DRC when sent to a system that allowed him to play to his strengths how much he improved. Im sure you already know who else pplays a man heavy defense.
I would love to bring in Davin Joseph for depth on the OL. He would be an immediate upgrade and we could have some much needed depth.
Im praying this guy pops up on our radar soon. Guy is strong and has some really quick hands. Just dont know how he would do in our offense as he is clumsy when he has to get outside of a OT.
What does this have to do with his most recent performance in Denver? I get that you love Cromartie but he is not the long term answer we need. Idzik has made that clear. He cut him and then said he would not match the offer made by Arizona. He didn't just cut him. He flat out said I am not matching their offer. A corner with a hip injury is not something you invest in. Cromartie may come back but at a much reduced rate. We need a shut down corner and that's what DRC can be. Is he a Darrelle Revis? No. There are very few that are. But he sure as hell can play at or above a healthy Cromartie level for many more years.
From another thread. Here are DRC numbers compared to Aquib Talib who is ranked top 5 in the league: "Other than interceptions (where he trailed by one), Rodgers-Cromartie bettered Talib's coverage numbers across the board in 2013. He allowed fewer catches (30 to 38), 143 fewer yards, a lower percentage of targets to be caught (44.1 to 53.5) and broke up more passes (10 to 7 PDs) while passers throwing into his coverage ended the season with a rating of just 67.8 as opposed to the 72.3 when aiming at Talib." Now you're gonna sit here and say Cromartie is the better corner? I dont think so man.
