Just curious, because I see on NFL shop that all the Titans throwback stuff is on clearance, and that old 80s logo is featured on several items, and before there were almost none.

Last year Woody said on his instagram account that they were looking at bringing this logo back (as possibly the alternate).

Well anyway, I hope so because the Titans unis were causing my vision to be impaired due to the extreme ugliness. And that 80s logo was super cool, I loved the way "Jets" was spelled with the wing on top.

Even though I wouldn't have said this a year or so ago, maybe it's finally time to step up into the 21st century with a totally new look. The 1969 uniform can always be brought back as the throwback, saving the blue and gold only for AFL week whenever that happens

Understand, you are now only allowed to use one helmet during the year. It has to be the same helmet so you can no longer change from white to blue or from white to green during the year,

    No. One helmet. Safety reasons.

I'm fine with that - it should end the whole played out throwback exercise then. The Bucs certainly can't wear their orange pants with that bronze-and-beater-black-fade- job new hat.

The 70s Jets uniforms were really nice (especially the helmets), but the current uniforms are the modern version of what Joe Namath & co wore, so thats what we should stick with in my opinion.

I think the main uniforms should stay as they are- basically very similar to what Joe Namath wore.

I still don't understand how thats safer. I 'd love to see an 80's throwback, supposedly the jets were thinking of doing that but hone this rule took effect.

I don't want the Jets to get new uniforms, Nike puts shoe designs on NFL jersey's and they generally look REALLY tacky. Except the vikings ones, those are well done.

Are we sure this is league-wide. I know the Buccaneers came out and said they wouldn't use the creamsicle uniforms for this reason, but I wasn't aware it was a league-wide mandate.

The throwback helmets are made old school style, and they lack the modern safety features or whatever that the current helmets have. If you let them play in throwbacks, arguably they're putting their heads through more trauma, higher risk of CTE later in life.

A lot of famous former NFL players have died of CTE, or CTE-related depression, and others like Terry Bradshaw almost definitely have it and are severely debilitated by it. So in an effort to try to hopefully reduce that in the future, they're saying "No, you cannot wear those helmets that were designed 50 years ago by guys who didn't know about the concept of brain damage."

simple solution then: make modern helmets with classic designs on them.

I had though thats what they were doing as it is, was I wrong to assume this to be true? iI thought this had to do with their heads finding a fit or something.

Actually, they can use the same helmet and alter its appearance:

    DATE: August 22, 2013
    SUBJECT: Throwback Uniform Helmets

Our Head, Neck, and Spine Committee, chaired by Drs. Hunt Batjer and
Richard Ellenbogen, and the Player Safety Advisory Panel, chaired by
John Madden and Ronnie Lott, have recommended that players no longer
wear different helmets as part of a “Throwback” or "Third" uniform.
Our office supports this change and has reviewed it with the chairman of
our Health and Safety ownership committee, Dr. John York, who concurs
    with this recommendation.
We have communicated the change to those teams that are planning to
wear throwback uniforms for at least one game this season. Teams may
continue to wear throwback uniforms under league guidelines, but players
must wear their regular helmets. The outside of the helmet can be
modified by removing or replacing decals, as long as it does not affect the
    integrity of the helmet.
The committees believe that a cautious approach to the changing of
helmets is an important best practice for player safety.
This change is consistent with numerous changes we have made in recent
years regarding uniforms and equipment. If you have any questions,
    please call either of us.

If you were a fan of the Raiders or Packers would you be saying the same thing?

The 80's Kelly Green's wouldv'e been nice to see for a game or two this year. But, leave the current logo and unis alone. This is why Parcells was behind the change in 1998. He said "This is the uniform you think of when you think of the New York Jets."....its their identity.....and IMO ...bias or not....one of the best looks in the NFL.

i dont personally understand the whole 1 helmet thing. its a football helmet, if its a riddell 360 you get another riddell 360 of the same size but different color. its not like they are sending them out there in leather helmets, esq i think you are mistaken. helmets need to be refitted during the year anyway, so in reality what you start out with on day 1 is NOT what you have 4 weeks later. air bladders leak and need to be refilled, thats why every single equipment guy in the world has a little hand pump in his bag.

so i dont really understand the angle, but i can assure you its not a safety issue. if they really gave a shit they would look at the pressure of hte air in each helmet and verify it periodically during the year. but that would be silly just like this rule.

it also says nothing about painting the helmet, and you can put new decals on all day. my issue is in order to paint the helmet you have to remove all of the padding, essentially making it a new helmet that needs to be refitted anyway.

its idiocy no matter how you slice it. i just dont understand the nfls angle on it. usually its pretty easy to see their angle. this one not so much as they are costing themselves money.

I agree, I don't understand why pulling a brand new exact same model helmet out of a box and using it makes it a less safe helmet. I quess they feel the head gets used to the helmet and makes for a more consistent fit?

I mean, when do you have to start wearing it? Game 1? O you have to use the same helmet in practice? What if it breaks somehow?

Seems like a very weird requirement.
