The Patriots needed to sign Revis more than the Jets did. Anything less than Revis would have been regression. Talibs play was REALLY good last season. Hes not Revis but at times he certainly played as good as Revis ever has. Look at the box score of the Saints-Patriots game, Talib defended Graham the entire game, Graham had 0 catches for 0 yards despite 6 tarets. Now when I look at the Bucs-Saints box score, Brees dropped 300 yards both times, including a game where Graham alone had 179 yards. I have no clue if Revis defended Graham at all but regardless, in both games Brees did not seem affected.

So im not going to make a big deal about Revis, it would have been an improvement for the Jets but for the Patriots it wont be as big as an improvement as people will make it out to be. Its not about the name on the jersey, its about the production on the field.

Right. So if the Jets do not fill any more needs via free agency (hypothetically speaking because they will)

Then for the first picks in the draft, they need to take BPA with respect to S, CB, OL, LB, TE ignoring BPA for RB, QB, DL

So I think BPA must be placed in context...just IMO

I'm ok with taking a Safety in the first round if we sign another WR as they can step in right away !

I'll watch like I always do but I think he dropped the ball especially on Asamoah and Ward and a few other guys to a lesser extent.

Or maybe i just felt we weren't that far from being a really good team again. I felt this team never needed to do too much rebuilding we just need difference makers . Even in our bad years we were winning 6 games. I mean the defense is there .. We needed somebody to help us from gettin burnt.. Thats y i said Byrd or revis for 2 or 3 yrs.. We would still have plenty of money afterwards.. Pass rushers can be found in the draft.. Offense we could've still got decker or nicks and a guard or tackle (how bout at least offering howard something before the stupid raiders can offer him something crazy he cant deny like always). thats 2 big spendings and the rest let idzik do his draft magic and sign his stop gap guys. I like idzik and his evaluation of talent alot. I just think he needs to pull the trigger when he has opportunities to do it once n a while. I never said go sign every good player on the market

Yeah, it is funny that the Jets signed a Giacomini from the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks and Eric Decker from the AFC Champion, Super Bowl loser Broncos. Sounds like the Jets are signing winners, but I don't think either team even considered bringing them back.

The only FA signing I was upset about was Asamoah. I thought he would've been a really nice addition to our OL.
Other than that, I feel like we've done fairly well.

I would love for the ravens to get Edelman and Steve smith.. Glad Tate went to Detroit . Hope Oakland offers nicks something crazy . Then Sammy Watkins & Evans have a chance of dropping in the draft :)

The Broncos are going to have to pay both the Thomas brothers soon and they still have Welker so they had no need for Decker. Seahawks are in the same boat, they're going to have to pay Sherman and Wilson so no need for a average RT.

They won't let Wilkerson hit free agency. After this year, they will invoke the 5th year option of his rookie contract, and then negotiate an extension at that point (before the 2015 season starts.) When you negotiate from that standpoint, you can still get the 5th year cheaply, yet not expose him to free agency.

Meh. Most of those twelve are lower round picks. You seem to be implying the Jets are stacked with high draft picks. They are not. Lower round picks rarely become starters, unless it's for a crappy team.

"Jets weren't winning the SB this year anyway" - Yep, you've got that right.

The point remains why free up all that cap space and then not spend it? Yes, as Barcs points out FA could still end up adequately for this season. IF a number of breaks go the Jets' way. All of them.

The real world says that will not happen.

If Watkins falls to pick 8-10 who would be willing to trade up at that point to get him? I generally don't like trading up but I get the felling Watkins is something special......

  18. It's been disappointing. But I don't think it's a matter of incompetence on Idzik's part.

He's just not gonna pay beyond where he has the player's priced. You're gonna lose a few along the way..but this is a slow methodical way of creating a healthy payroll & deep roster.Players will be added no doubt..but not in a frantic Mr. T kind of matter.

As I look back to the free agency frenzy of the first couple of days I have some mixed feelings, both happiness and disappointment combined.
I was rooting hard for the following targets: V. Davis, T.J. Ward, J. Asamoah, and Decker, followed by Z. Strief and Z. Beadles. My assessment of the results:

    1) Regrettably Not in the cards - I'm ok we did not overpay for V. Davis, and although very disappointed about Ward, I recognize we never had a chance, he was bound to Denver from day zero with no interest for the Jets
    2) Biggest Dissatisfaction - I'm mystified and unhappy we did not pursue Asamoah harder, that is my biggest regret. Wondering what really went down with the that.
    3) Good moves - I'm happy with Decker and its a toss probably between Giacomini and Strief.

Now, I'm sure most of us want to go into the draft without the added pressure of having to fill a major need with the first pick so what are Idzik's options going forward? Trade, remaining free agency, move up in the draft for the sure thing?

I have faith in Idzik, if nothing he is thorough. Could a trade be in the works using our 4th from TB? Is there someone that we can trade for to fill Key Empty holes - CB, and OG seem like the most glaring, followed by S, back up TE and WR.

If we end up with Cromartie and Colon back then we really have not upgraded the position, but if we don't we could be even worst. What am I not seeing?

Certainly wouldn't waste even a 7th trading for him, if he comes free maybe toss him in with some udfa's and see if anyone sticks but from training camp but at this point I don't see that he would even be on anyone's mind.
