    Hey All,

I know FA isn't technically over, but the frenzy aspect is. With Decker signed up, I expect us to nab another CB, whether it be Munnerlyn, Cromartie, DRC.etc. I don't think any other FA signed at this stage of FA would alter our draft plans in any way. Not going to explain the picks for the other teams, so if you're curious, just ask.

    1. Houston- Blake Bortles, QB, UCF
    2. St. Louis- Jadeveon Clowney, DE, USC
    3. Jacksonville- Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
    4. Cleveland- Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
    5. Oakland- Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
    6. Atlanta- Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo
    7. Tampa- CJ Mosley, LB, Alabama
    8. Minnesota- Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA
    9. Buffalo- Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
    10. Detroit- Justin Gilbert, CB, Ok State
    11. Tennessee- Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
    12. New York Giants- Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
    13. St. Louis- Zack Martin, OT/OG, Notre Dame
    14. Chicago- HaHa Clinton Dix, S, Alabama
    15. Pittsburgh- Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
    16. Dallas- Aaron Donald, DT, Pitt
    17. Baltimore- Marqise Lee, WR, USC

    Now, the Jets mock:

    1. Eric Ebron, TE, UNC
    2. Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State
    3. Jeremiah Attoachu- DE/OLB, Georgia Tech
    4a. DeAnthony Thomas, HB, Oregon
    4b. Yawin Smallwood, LB, UConn
    5. Victor Hampton, CB, USC
5 (comp). Logan Thomas, QB, V-Tech
    6. Isaiah Crowell, HB, Alabama State (Georgia)
    7. Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma
7 (comp). Dezmen Southward, S, Wisconsin
7 (comp). Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa State
7 (comp). Colt Lyerla, TE, Oregon

I'm overall happy with this draft. I think we REALLY upgrade the offensive skill positions in this draft, as well as add some youth and talent to the LB and secondary. Only thing we don't address here is the OL.

I wanted to address the OL (I'm in the draft Lewan if he falls to us camp), but I just really didn't see the value ever based on who else was on the board.

    Flame on.

I like Southward and Crowell... Crowell would be a steal in the sixth if still available. If I wanted those two running backs I'd probably flip the order of those two in my targeting.

My brain initially triggered "Victor Hampton didn't go to USC, he went to South Carolina!" lol

    First three rounds look solid.

    JMO.

I like this mock a lot, but with us not addressing CB yet in FA i think that we might be targeting Roby in the second. Also I think the front office is comfortable with Cumby as the starter(not saying its right, just ive heard that) and if we sign pettigrew too I think we will look at WR in the first, specifically Lee who they met with TWICE at his pro day. Subbing in Lee in the first and Roby in the second would allow victor hampton pick to be changed to something Oline related, which lets be honest, we are not going to have 12 picks in the draft and not spend one on Oline.

With balitimore resigning Jacoby Jones and the leader for Steve Smith, I highly doubt another receiver, specifically a speedy one at that.

No flames from me. I'd be very happy with your first 5 picks, Van Der Kamp and possibly a couple of the others. I think Logan Thomas and Lyerla would be wasted picks however, and want no part of either player. Thomas I just don't think will ever make a quality QB, and we don't need a TE project. Lyerla is a cokehead and not even a recovering cokehead. The team doesn't need that distraction or problem. I don't care how talented he is.

Would definitely be happy with this draft. I would just change the Logan Thomas pick and maybe the DAT pick depending on the corner options available... I think a good QB we could pick up is Connor Shaw and we could grab him in the 6th or so round.

If Mike Evans falls out of the top 10, Idzik better immediately be on the phone with teams executing a trade up to get him. If he miraculously makes it past Detroit id be hoping and praying to hear the Jets traded up for him

It would cost our 2nd to move up to 10. Give or take.

I'd MUCH rather have Ebron and Adams than just Evans.

On Evans: I wouldn't trade up for anybody who is not a guarantee of success. Evans is not that, he's a big ball of potential with some proven ability to be a #1.

Trading up for stiff hips that proved to be real would suck.

If we did draft a cb at 18, which one do you like best? Dennard, Gilbert, Verrett, Fuller? Researching it seems like Dennard may be the best fit for us.

Dennard for sure. he garners a lot of comparisons to Revis (hopefully he doesn't end up as greedy).

I love seeing Kirby "My Man" der Kamp in all of your mock drafts, guys. Hopefully the front office feels the same way we do.

No he hadn't. That would be really dumb. One of the best and deepest classes of WRs ever and you want to trade up. In case you haven't noticed, the Jets have waaaaaaaaaay too many holes to even think about trading up. Did you learn nothing during the Tanny years?

Besides, if you're counting on getting immediate contributions from him, you'd better think again. He's a very raw route runner, is a bit immature, and he could conceivably not contribute very much at all his first season. Conversely, Cooks is a great route runner and very polished. The same goes for Beckham Jr. Beckham could also contribute as the KOR. Evans may have a higher ceiling that Beckham, but I don't think he does over Cooks. If they're all 3 there at #18, I would choose Cooks.

Gilbert. He's just as good as Dennard in coverage, is faster and is a great KOR. He could be the second coming of Neion Deion. IMO it isn't even close.

Sloup, I'm not sure I get why this guy's been rubber stamped by people here unless they are (like a lot of "draft guru" sites) merely parroting somebody else's assessment of the guy.

Looking at van der Kamp's stats on both a year-to-year basis as well as this past season on a game-by-game basis, the one thing that sticks out is that his stats for the most part seem to drop as the days/years go by:

    Year - Ave.
    2010 - 45.2
    2011 - 42.7
    2012 - 41.0
    2013 - 41.6

    2013 Season:
    8/31 - 44.8
    9/14 - 42.2
    9/26 - 47.4
    10/3 - 39.7
    10/12- 47.5
    10/19 -43.1
    10/26 -40.2
    11/2 - 43.7
    11/9 - 36.0
    11/16 -39.6
    11/23 -36.0
    11/30 -37.0

I don't know if the weather played a factor or not (looking at the 2013 game-to-game), but fwiw, his yearly average dropped as well. Univ. Miami (by way of Cincinati) Pat O'Donnell has 'fast twitch' quads as he ran 4.53-4.6 40 at the combine. Problem with him sometimes is consistency with his hang time (much like TJ Conway whom we stupidly grabbed a few years back from Idaho and whose 'indoor stadium' 47+ yd. average was "line drive" inflated).

More of a proven, steady guy I'd look at (jmho) would be Cody Mandell of Alabama-solid.

    JMO on the cornerback question...

Dennard is a unique player in that he presses ALL THE TIME. He stinks in his backpedal but he never uses it. He turns to run with the receivers immediately and has a good instinct on where the play is going.

Gilbert is a good cover guy but he does it setting up well more than having elite change-of-direction and flexibility. He does have a unique ability to make big things happen with the ball. He probably will make the biggest impact on the game of the four guys, though may not be quite as consistent in coverage as Fuller and Dennard.

Fuller has the best ability to blanket cover without committing a penalty. Honestly I don't even understand how he does it. He also is a very active tackler (actually all three of these guys are good tacklers, but Fuller probably seeks it out the most.) I like him a lot, but I think he doesn't create as many turnovers. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Verrett holds on almost every play, that's how he is able to stay with the receivers so well. I think he will get called a lot in the NFL. Penalty machine waiting to happen.

Just my observations on these guys.

I agree with Steve. It's probably an innate bias being a Michigan student, but I do not like Dennard that much. I think Gilbert has game-breaking potential a la a Patrick Peterson (not saying he'll be as good, but that style). Kyle Fuller strikes me as more of a zone corner. Doesn't play a lot of press.

Unless Gilbert drops to 18, I can't see a CB being the BPA.

I don't think it's a matter of Gilbert "dropping." I think he'll most likely be there at #18. I think it's more a matter of who Idzik sees as the bpa at that point or if he is definitely leaning towards a WR if everything else is relatively equal.

I think there's a shot he's there, but I'd still be surprised if he is. I was just trying to say I really don't see another CB besides Gilbert that could possibly be BPA at 18.
