There is a reason why Verner went to TB and Revis left they play cover 2 we play man to man Verner would've been a bad fit here.

We need a lot of help at CB I agree there are a lot of guys still out there who would fit the system... patience.

I love how everyones an NFL GM all of a sudden ,like signing nobody is all of a sudden a great idea because we save our money that isn't suppose to be saved, after missing playoffs 3 straight years I have no patience

You're the one trying to sound like a GM and wants to sign everyone... I'm here saying that our team is in good hands :)

No I watched the Jets games, I know the holes on the roster. I was just asking you who you thought we missed that we badly need.

I agree Whitner would be an upgrade, although the Jets were never linked to him at all. Although he also said he was happy about "coming home" when signed with Cleveland. Maybe he was set on Cleveland and we tried and he said no.

Verner doesn't fit how the defense was played. I read we wanted Vonte Davis over him who resigned like everyone assumed heading into FA. Again, a tough grab for NYJ like above, I can't directly blame for missing there.

Brandon Pettigrew who we reportedly are close to?

Golden Tate, although we just signed a receiver in Decker filling the hole Tate would have filled. You could argue Tate is better, but regardless the Jets found a WR to fill a WR hole.

Plus the draft, if the Jets make the right draft picks and those rookies can contrite right away and SB contender still seems a bit ambitious considering NE is in our division. Playoff contender, maybe? Maybe we still will be a playoff contender considering you know it's March and the season starts in September. Long time left.

How would Pettigrew greatly improve our team he is kind of the same as Winslow... Tate ? we got Decker with most likely another WR to come.

I'm sure we will sign a CB and FS in the coming days... day 1 and 2 hold the biggest risks I'm totally ok with our direction.

Idzik isn't swinging for the fences for this year. He's trying to achieve sustained success over a period of time. He's careful with the cap and I'm sure is looking forward to the draft where we have all 7 rounds and then comp picks. We're going to bring a lot of guys onto this team to compete in a deep draft. Hoping we sign Pettigrew, a competent corner, Chris Clemons, Calvin Pace, James Jones/Sanders/Miles Austin, and some other guys Idzik feels belong here

Yes it's frustrating to have plenty of money but not many signings.
It's so refreshing to see that we are not over spending and acting quickly.

Idzik has a plan and so far in liking his patience.
We have needs, money, and plenty of draft picks. Then next year their will be huge free agents to be had, this year not so much.

I'm interested to see what happens with Sanchez bcuz the Browns will scoop him up and give him a shot to start. Remember who's their coach now. I'd prefer to keep Sanchez for a year and then decide.

I'd like to see Nicks in Green and white on a 2-3 year contract. He is the only #1 WR available right now.

Draft a TE,WR, a safety, QB, LB, oline G and LT.

Not as frustrating as being in cap hell with a bunch of overpaid players

As a Pats fan, watching Idzik not go sign the flashy names on day 1 as Tanny would have is actually quite upsetting. Idzik is actually playing his cards like the Pats usually do (obviously this year the roles are kind of reversed), they sit, let the market settle, and sign 4 or 5 role players for what a team like Miami pays in 1 shot to Mike Wallace. Everyone remember how great he did last season?

    Idzik values value.

He signed Decker and a guard, two huge needs, and based on how he's been playing FA so far (mostly very quietly), I think he'll let the smoke settle some more and fill the roster holes with tier 2 players.

If you spend all of your money on one superstar and he gets hurt, who steps in? Nobody. You need to fill a roster with those tier 2 and tier 3 guys, you can only afford one or two, MAYBE three superstars on a team.

Free Agency this year had very few of those guys and most seemed like they were already signed before they even became available. Ware hit Denver too quick to not have been partially in the works. Revis hit NE too quick as well to not have been discussed ahead of time. Talib sounded like he was close to a deal before getting blown away by Denver, and the LT's didn't represent a need and were the complete opposite of value.

Idzik and the Jets have had a fine free agency period by the simple fact that they aren't jumping on every "name" and paying top money for it. It's like Nike vs Newbounds, a lot of the time you're getting the same shoe but you pay $80 more for the pair of Nikes. A good roster won't be built in a single season and Tanny left a LOT to be desired. Idzik inherrited a mess and is slowly jettisoning the problematic contracts as soon as they allow him to and bringing in his type of guys on deals that make sense.

Remember, this guy played a big role in a lot of the current NFL Champion's roster.

LOLOL John Idzik had a large role in the current champs roster huh?

    Here is the hierarchy:
They have an owner, then a president. Schneider is GM. Carroll Head of Football Operations (he has final say on coaches and players). Then they have a Senior Personnel Executive.

The next tier down is a group of VPs. "Technology" "finance" "marketing" etc. Idzik was VP of football administration.

He was not one of the top guys making decisions, though I'm sure he gave input when appropriate. He was certainly not even in the personnel or player development arms of the org. In fact here's how his job was described on Seattles site:

. With Seattle, Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations. In addition, he serves as the club’s primary liaison to the NFL Office and represents the club at League meetings.

Idzik was a second level guy in a great organization, who had minimal impact on building that team. Doesn't mean he doesn't know how to, but this is his first rodeo. Stop acting like he's something he isn't.

There's Finley but I think he is a lot more expensive and already has a lot of interest..next on the list after that would be Owen Daniels. After that the next unsigned guy per rotoworld's rankings is some bum named Dustin Keller..haha.

Pettigrew's deal is 4 years 16 million. Overpay IMO, considering how cheap Cumberland came.
