Honestly Winslow wasn't bad at all last year. In an offense with receivers surrounding him he'd be a weapon. Just was a major headache to deal with. (Injuries, suspension, Boston market)

You are completely clueless. I know it's only March, but his may be post of the year . I'm sure Ryan and Idzik are sitting in a room right now saying just that. Ryan : " Gee John. The Jets haven't won since my Dad was a coach. That was almost 50 years ago. ". Woody: " You're right Rex. And we have all this cap money to spend. John, sign Drc, Sanders, Finley. Whoever. And give them whatever they want $10 million a year, $20 million. Whatever it taks our fans deserve a bunch of new players and some are getting impatient while you build a team piece by piece with judicious smart spending on players who we need as part of a planned rebuild and roster talent improvement. You're process is too slow. Do we really need the right players? That's not how Mike T did it" Idzik: "But guys, we went 8-8 last year. We have a great team. We don't need players. Rex can coach up the roster we have and we will definitely win the SB this year. Lanskter will be in the Pro Bowl. So will Winston. Decker will put up 2500 yards and 25 TDs. Cumberland is the next Graham. Wilks will have 35 sacks. I mean, don't get me wrong. i can sign any of these guys i want. I'll just use my jedi hypnosis and they will sign with us. But whats the point. We will win each game by 2 TDs because we were .500 last year. I'm not signing anyone else. Lets watch TV and turn in early. "

    That's what is going on.

    Brilliant post.

This year has nothing to with two years ago, let alone 40 years ago. The number of years since the last title doesn't change how you build a team. Take a Valium.

I'm not big on Miles Austin because he's an injury waiting to happen. Might as well direct that money elsewhere. As for Britt, well, we're all aware of the risks involving him. Who knows what kind of player Finley will be after that catastrophic injury.

Despite my skepticism of those three players, I do agree with your overall concept, especially the approach to FA and subsequent Draft.

Not necessarily. first off, it's been really hard to get a feel on who the Jets are actually targeting because of the lack of leaks.

Second off nobody is going to entertain the idea if the Jets don't try to get them and we don't know how the Jets made a push to sign and didn't get and who the Jets just ignored and didn't get.

LOL Dude, seriously? How would either of them be "High Risk" signings? Britt is a lockerroom cancer, a deadbeat with lousy character and no work ethic, and you can't see how he would be a "high risk"? He would be taking the roster spot of someone who could actually contribute to the team. Why would we want to waste our time with a POS like Britt?

Austin can't stay healthy. One of the biggest problems Geno and the offense faced last season was that he never had the same receivers in practice and games from week to week. They could develop no consistency, timing or efficiency. And you want to give Geno two more WRs this year who could never be available due to injury or being in jail, and don't think they would be "high risk"? Are you really that dumb or are you just being a troll?

You guys make it sound like we gotta spend every penny of the cap... why not save some room for our guys who will need to get paid soon AKA Wilkerson... not to mention have some money saved up for next years class. Idzik knows what he is doing at least I would like to think so. No need to blow up everyone with 40 million dollar deals. Take a look at the Skins, Dolphins, Eagles, Raiders, Etc... what exactly have they won.

It's a balancing act. You want to get talented players but you don't want to pay them more than they can produce to build a successful team. You also want succeed on your drafts so you don't need to overly rely on FA to fill a lot of holes. Currently the Jets have a lot missing pieces, but so far I haven't been terribly upset at them realistically missing out on anyone yet. People need to remember, we aren't in the "one piece away" mode like other teams right now. We are in the a) find a QB mode, b) get talented starters mode c) become a winning team mode d) get younger mode to name a few. You spend differently in this type of building of process.

I know a new way of thing is you never "rebuild" in the NFL, you "reload". But in reality, you do need to rebuild although some teams get luckier/do it better than others. The Jets tried to do it on the fly in 2011 and 2012 and it failed, partially why Tanny was let go.

Yea so we should keep the money and not sign anyone, tell me why no other team with cap space and even teams with little cap room have made some big moves, you don't seem to realize there's not many players left that can make a big impact and be on the team for more then one year or be a stop gap,Its like people have forgotten how terrible this roster really is because we went 8-8

Why ?because he is being over patient?and letting good players that we really badly need not even get in for a visit? We aren't good enough to play this game we are not that team

I will say, it's a nice felling I have realizing he won't be like Mike T. I'm pretty sure we won't find ourselves in a bad cap situation.

Which good players we really badly need? Remember even if we badly need players, the price is a key component of whether or not they are worth it. For example, many think we badly need a QB like Vick. It wouldn't be worth it to sign Vick to a huge contract though because he hasn't show the ability to stay healthy and etc etc.

It's too early to really call Idzik's plan good or bad. I think we can focus on specific deals we make and analyze them because it's the only concrete info we have. But that's only part of how the Jets are going to be built going forward.

Witch good players did we badly need?wow lol have you missed every Jet game for the past two years. We need a starting TE,CB,two safteys, kick returner, two more Wrs.We could have greatly improved signing Donte Whitner,Verner,Petigrew, and Golden Tate ,that plus the draft and we would have been a legit contender. And we had more then enouugh money to sign all of them.

I think the mistake some people make is they think... "we have to fill this hole with this guy" here is the catch some years you find the right fit... while other years or positions, the right guys are just not there for the taking, and that is where you make the mistake and give the player avl all the money when he isn't the right fit... sometimes a stop gap is what you need until you find the right guy to fit that piece... or get lucky and find him in the draft.
