He's doing exactly what he said he would do... I view him as a calm calculated silent assassin. Doesn't get too high or too low, takes his time and doesn't panic to spend big $ on a big name. This will keep us competitive for a long time due to not going into cap hell. Still early, let's see what else he can do, but I like the approach.
That's a dumb ass way of looking at it. You basically just outsmarted your own comment. They are coming off a super bowl year which is exactly why they spent like they did. They need few pieces to complete that team and that's what they signed. They are in it to win it with Manning for the next two years. After that I would not want to be Denver. Now, enlighten me on how that would help us? How did going out and signing big names help Miami last year? Unless you are a team like Seattle, San Fran, Denver, etc. that needs few pieces, you do not overspend in free agency.
All I have to say for Idzik is, he better have one hell of a draft planned, cause we have a ton of holes, now Cromartie is close to signing with the cards , can't bring him back, he's got a lot to prove.
If Miami beat us they would have made playoffs, and they had a lot of distractions with Incognito bs and Philbins just not a good coach. Its not your money to overspend your a Jets fan not a capologist.I rather overspend for some talent then have none at all
If we have a bad year this season like a really bad one Idzik will get shitted on by media and fans and will be gone after only one season if we stay on this currrent route
LOL So Miami going 8-8 and "almost" making the playoffs justifies spending a ton in free agency. Got it. Amazing.
You have the reasoning in your post, Denver is in a different situation that us. Peyton's old, they have a small window so they are overloading to go for it. We aren't in a situation where our SB window is closing in front of us. Now saying that, I think it's too early to say if Idzik is doing good or bad. As of right now, I like the contract we got Decker and Douzable on. I haven't read the terms on the T from Seattle yet. If they FA period ended and this is all we did, I wouldn't be too happy. But we have so much time until the roster is developed and ready for the season, I think the grading of Idzik has to be out on hold.
What I like about Idzik so far is his commitment to giving young players a chance. Tannebaum traded way too many draft picks and it caught up to him. Hopefully late round guys like Aboushi and Campbell can contribute. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think Idzik's strategy is pretty interesting. It seems to be to let all the teams go make a lot of deals at top dollar for the first few days and then target who ever is left and will accept a more reasonable price because the top spenders are already gone by then. It relies on there not being a huge talent difference between the top free agent in an area and the 4th or 5th. It means you end up with some affordable good players through the free agency process, but not a lot of very expensive great players. However, if you're trying to fill holes, then good players should be good enough. It's kind of like a draft board, where you let the first few days pass and then focus on who's still on the board at that time.
It's a multi-year, probably 2 year, rebuild strategy. He's establishing the foundation with good solid players on reasonable contract. Heading into the draft, we'll be ok at every position so as to not have to be desperate for a position, but also not so deep at a position where as we have to avoid the BPA. In the draft he'll go BPA. Once the foundation is solid, next free agency can focus on making the splashy, put the team over the top signings.
Do you ever see the Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Ravens or Giants going out and spending huge on a guy? Very, very rarely (Revis this year, C. Woodson). These are the most successful franchises over the last decade. They draft well and bargain hunt in free agency. They will sign veterans at a huge bargain (S. Smith, A Boldin, A Rolle, etc.). They re-sign their own quality talent. This is the model we should be following. Most people think having all this cap money is great. And it is unless you waste it all. I was so nervous going into this FA because we had all this money. You still need to spend wisely and on the first day of FA you will always over pay. I'm glad we either lost out on the big names or it was just a bluff. Even in the case of Decker, I feel we got him for less than projected, getting him for almost half of what the Steelers gave Wallace. Things are going well, have patience.
i would like to see a little bit more action and am not a huge fan of decker but there is a LONG way to go in this process, relax and see what happens. the team cant all be top 5 at their position guys.
