Given the rising cap, this was a great deal.

The problem with overpaying for above average players is that every player on your roster looks at those deals as benchmarks for what they're going to ask of you before they hit free agency.

That cuts your latitude to sign your players to favorable extensions. It works against your ability to manage the cap long-term. It leads to rosters full of overpaid players that decrease your play value on the field over time.

What John Idzik and Woody Johnson are doing this year is very hard. They're choosing to ignore immediate upgrades because they know those guys won't be good enough in aggregate to get the Jets over the top. They're not going to repeat the mistakes of 2007 to 2011 and fall short this time. They're going to build a roster where one free agent signing can put it over the top when it is peaking. That's how you win Super Bowls.

I swear, just when you think things are changing, you get reminded that they aren't.

People have had the "decker will be overpaid" mentality for a while. It could have been 3 years 10 million and people would react the same way.

How exactly is this overpaying? Or Decker an 'average' receiver?

Tate was 5 for 31 with 13.25 guaranteed. So only 1.75 more guaranteed for Decker. Cool, good move idzik

We got arguably the top FA WR on the market for a fair deal both in years and annual salary. Still enough money to get Sanders orr a tier down and get Jones/Rice. We added two solid pieces today. Is Decker a #1, probably not, but he is a damn good 26 year old #2 that has he ability in games to be a # 1.

Yeah, I have no problem with that move then. I was expecting Decker to get a lot more then Tate got.

It's not......seems just about right if not a little less than predicted. I'd like to see how this works in regard to the cap......
