This offseason could turn excellent in a heart beat. We could sign Decker, then go after a guy like Sanders or Austin and possibly resign Revis.

I'd rather have Nicks or Sanders. Decker sucks.

I thought Verner got $26.5mil over 4 years which amounts to $6.6mil a season, not $9mil. That's pretty good IMO for a corner of his age and ability. It's like 40% what Revis is currently getting paid and about 60% what we were going to pay Cromartie this year.

In this free agent WR market, yes, Decker is a "blue chip".

Comparatively, among all NFL WR, no.

But the latter doesn't matter because we are talking FA.

As someone who was one of the biggest advocates of drafting Hakeem Nicks when he came out, I have to say that nothing should make you prefer Nicks over Decker at this point in their careers.

Is Nicks a better talent? Of course.

Matter of fact, back when he was coming into the draft, he was the only WR I wanted.

But based on Nicks' track record of injury, what would lead you to believe he will play 16+ games?

If we were to get both Decker and Sanders we wouldn't be drafting a WR so I don't see that happening. We have 12 picks(probably) and there are so many WRs out there it makes no sense to buy two on the open market now.

That doesn't even make sense. Why wouldn't you compare him to all NFL WR? Why would you want to spend blue chip money on a guy who is only blue chip in a small subset? Be patient. No reason to overspend if you end up with 50 cents on the dollar. But if you spend 50 cents on 50 cents, then I guess that's alright.

Imagine gettin Decker and either Nicks, Edleman, Sanders, Jones, or whoever else and then grabbing a receiver in round 2 or 3 (very deep draft) and taking a guy like Ebron in the first. Our O will be filled with weapons

You didn't understand what I meant with that.

Initially I asked the poster if a "blue chip" WR signed a contract as a barometer to know if we over pay for Decker.

I did not say Decker should be paid as a "blue chip" but this does not change the fact he is a "blue chip" with respect to the WR FAs.

He played 15 games last year and caught 800+ passes doing that during Eli's down year.

Did you deliberately exclude 0 touchdowns?

And, again, I am not down on Nicks' talent. He was injured last year and played anyway because he was going to be a FA.

I would rather have Decker over a 1 year Nicks rental.

Yeah I did but he was still effective last year and he isn't as injury prone as you guys make him out to be.

I haven't read through this but I'm guessing it's been panic mode. I'm disappointed we didn't re-sign Howard but outside of that I'm fine not diving into FA right away. This approach will make sure we have enough money to re-sign Mo, Richardson a few years later and the other young talent we have or will be drafting. Still good WRs out there and we still have Cro as a fallback option. I'm feeling good.

It's actually been surprisingly calm compared to last night.

If we can get decker for 6-7 million I'm for it. He'd contribute more than howard would based on salary.
